Thread: Is pikeman worthless?

I always love coming back here. Every time I do, there is always some great new posts.
Today, it's no less than 5 threads (although a couple appear to be double posts) asking is pikeman worth the bother.
Here's the skinny, folks.
If you're a pikeman/doctor or a pikeman/melee stacker, then yes, pikeman is WELL worth it.
I know what the numbers say. I know what the other professions say. I can see all these things, but I'll tell you something. I don't know of any other profession that can just wade into a huge group of mobs and just level them.
Run up to a lair, spam area attacks and 2 minutes later, 80k xp. Thanks for coming out.
Fencer and TK have better defenses, but you can glom those. Swordsman (supposedly) has better area attacks, but I've not seen a swordsman take out multiple mobs like a pikeman.
It's worth it, in my opinion.

Hmmm well i have TKM/MasterBrawler/Mpikeman and i know which i like playing most. What other proffesions can wipe out entire groups of mobs in a few swings. I took out 2 protectors at once the other day.. not a huge achievement but try doing that withTK or Fencer attacks. I can tank pretty much anything even if i cant kill it, it is an amazing profession solo or grouped. Finally no other profession looks even half as good as we do pulling our specials.
If you don't like pikeman or think it's a waste of time don't bother posting a message on our forum. Just drop it and take up CM or Rifles.

The only problem I have with Pikeman is the grind from Polearms 3 to Novice Pikeman ^_^ Ah yes, to get the XP for Polearms 4 and Novice Pikeman, one must either...
A) Kill high level monsters with a Lance, which does so little damage because of the 0 AP....
B) Kill high level monsters with a LVA, and NEVER HIT THEM ^_^
Ah, so fun. But once you're done, it's worth it.

I started pikeman last night, and in 1 set of buffs I got Novice.

I got Novice in one set of buffs too. Next set of buffs, I was already at 4004. Guess the banked combat XP helped with that.

I'm not a very big PvE person, as most everything pve is just a grind...but sice I'm doing FS, I've been able to cap 900k xp in just under an hour and a half using our area attacks (using a player crafted 475 dmg LVA w/o powerup). I must say that the area attacks we have are THE most satisfying attacks I've ever used, they're just really cool.
We're worthless in pvp unless you purchase a very high priced mind fire lance, and even then, you have to deal with fire blankets and so forth.
I can say that pikeman will be *very* worthwhile after the combat balance.

The SWG forums are PvP centered. Since Pikeman is not considered a "pwnage" PvP profession you get 5 posts a day of people asking "is it worth it".

lol, for god sake, please try to master it, play around w/ it, by then, you will know whether it is worthed or not. I am a Master brawler/Sword (probably never drop this,) I mastered TKA, but it's seem to be too powerful in my opinion. Since I always like the animation of Pike, so I tried it. Right now, I am 4013, and I just fall in love w/ the profession. For PvP or 1 on 1 w/ the mob, TKA and sword rule, but for a hunters like me, how many of you got zerg by all the critters? Last night, I was surrounded by 5 gurks on lok, just warcry2, action1, action2 ( don't feel like just spam spin2,) then spin2 till target die then switch to new target, clean up that mob in under 5 mins.
Beside, we have 250 skill point, 250 people, use it. Beside, each person will have a taste of their own. I had seen so many people in here say that this profession is elite. I agree only to the extend that if those are speed cap, and use DOT in PvP. IMO, it's goes the same for all professions, not just pike, don't ask people in here if Pike is worthy, because most likely the answer will be yes. THIS IS PIKEMAN BOARD, doh! Now if you want to be UBER in PvP, then go get all the badges and become Jedi.
Sometime I think the name of this game should change from Star War: Galaxie divided to Star War: Galaxie of Jedi.

It makes me laugh just how many ppl take up pikes, buy nice shiney pikes from my servers trade forum, only to be selling it 2 days later with a big "ahh man pikes sucks"
Well for me Master Pikeman / Master Doc Its great, in both pvp and pve it serves me well, yes the defences are not all that compared to the likes of a defence stacker, but then when there ticking away and cant heal, i just chuckle 
Cool animations, Great weapons.. I love it, and am here to stay

What people dont realise is how balanced this professsion actually is. I went a Teras Kasi Master and she only beat me in the end due to a slightly faster attack speed. We were pretty much equal all the way, HAM was going down very slowly but it was equal. From that point on i was amazed what I can do with a well I must say not the best Vibro Lance.
From that time on i jad so much respect for the profession and realised how good we can be if we actually know what we are doing with our sticks
Oh and FYI I have NO speed attachments, NO accuracy attachments and well NO attachments to speak of so well it was pure Master Pikeman oh and i used no DoTs

About the fs thing it is very good to cap on, took me about 45min last ntie to get 900kxp, took the swordsman i was with only 30mins to cap though
