Any other Pikeman feel "jealous" of all the other pikeman that are up and coming? I've been PIkeman for maybe 4 months now, I've always wanted to do it, and after I decided to screw grinding I picked it up. But anyway, I don't even like teaching pikeman skills any more, the "new pikemen" are destroying this profession. I especially hate the pikeman who's pikeman for the DoT.
Anyway, anyone else see the sudden surge in pikemen and are disliking it?

When I bought the game (only slightly more than 3 months ago), I had already decided I wanted to be pikeman, because of one of the Player Screenshots of the Day. I didn't expect it to be as rare as it was when I started and I knew the unique part wouldn't last for to long. Since thena lot of my friends started toblame me for making them addicted to pikeman (one of them had tried to get it 6 times already and now finally after fighting togetherwith me stuck through). I can live with that, none of them like DOT's nor will they use them like they are used by so many right now.
The DOT monkeys (courtesy of Annalid0)are the reason I use my explorer tag instead of my master pikeman tag that I was so proud of getting after a month of playing (slow grind without buffs and armor for the most part). I'm ashamed now to show my pikeman tag because of them, people see the tag and see mini-CM instead.

I don't see that as a bad thing.
I mean, sure FOTM and all that.. but maybe with the surge of new people, they'll realize that pikeman needs some lovins.

That's the problem all those new people are so happy with their DOT's that all the bugs in our profession are being overlooked
DOT's can easily win any fight, so the devs don't dare to fix us because the DOT monkeys will be overpowered.

I think they should make DoT drops much much, MUCH less common. So we can still have our DoTs - and then they can fix us. After that, I'll be more than proud to show my "Master Pikeman" tag

Anyone ever consider that a Pikemans and DOT's are part of the balance of our profession? When I pvp, if I dont use DOT's then I should just go do something else.
Lets look at some of the facts.
we have horrible defensie melee and ranged..
we have block which is horrible...
melee mitigation destroys us, my best lva is something like 180 min damage and 650 max damage..
we have horrible state defenses...
I do hope that changes will occur and we will not need them, but until that happens what else do you do. I"m not a FOTM pikeman, I chose the profession to do PvE with, but this became boring, and I refuse to become a rifleman, swordsman or defense stacker.
My funniest story is i'm grinding out Fraction Points at the weapons facility, when a guy runs up to me had starts spamming head shot.So i quckly drop a 300 tick mind poision dot and run from room to room just out of his line of sight. Needless to say after it ticked a few times he didn't chase me and I walked away from the fight. Iconsider DOT's adeterent. But i'm also a Pike/Doc combo, so my pvp rating is under 1200 and probably always will be.

If they are, it's an incredibly misguided attempt to bring balance. You can't balance a class by forcing it to depend on a random loot system, you can only stratify it. Even if there's some "perfect" balance level obtainable with loot, anyone with better loot and anyone with worse loot remains unbalanced.
Now, you could argue that the reason we haven't been fixed and the reason loot tables haven't been altered is because they do balance each other out. If Nightsisters dropped fencer weapons or rifles you can be sure their loot would have been nerfed already. But the most that gets us is a crutch to use in absence of a real fix, not a true balance.
To respond to the original post in this thread, I personally am very glad to see new pikemen as long as they took up pikeman for the right reasons (or in the case of hologrinders, kept it for the right reasons). New pikemen strengthen the community and can be some of our strongest advocates. It's a whole different story with people who take up pikeman just to use DoTs. They do nothing but harm us.
Either way though, the more pikemen there are the more difficult it becomes to ignore our problems.

those looted pike weapons from nightsisters,not only have dots... they make exceptional crutches too!

Until pikeman gets a fix the only offensive element pikeman has for pvp is DoT's.
you ever tried dmg'in a stacker in 80% base composite armour + mele def?

yeah despy...after i get 10+ requests for teaches per hour with my pikeman tag up...it gets boring...the FOTM shoudl pass shortly after some people realize that it isnt the best pvp prof, and they move on...i will never drop pikeman, too fun

When I first started playing I decided I wanted to be a pikeman, this was before I had even turned the game on. I love pikeman and wouldn't drop it for anything, but I do agree, without DOT lances we are useless in pvp. It was only 1 month into playing (have been playing about 2 months now) that I found out about the DOT lances, since then I have picked up 2 from friends 1 is a mind fire janta staff, the other a mind poison staff, as such I tend to kill more than kills me, I did however try dueling a friend of mine using my lva(pve) (he was unbuffed bar the mind, and he had medic) and heincapped me, it's sad but unless you can get mind you suck in pvp.....which means we need the dots

I must say at least on the server I play now and also in the guild i am in... There has been so many new pikemen after the doctors got the resist buffs & area poison/disease cures. What I find very sad is that almost 75% of these players I know just take pikeman for DOTs - They dont care about the profession they just want to kill others in pvp by putting as many fires, poisons and such to them. I must admit if one day devs would reduce the amount of dot pike drops very low and would actually fix the profession and our specials I would be very happy.

I've been on since launch as a Weaponsmith. I love it but hate missing out on all of the cool combat stuff. Pistoleer isn't cutting it. So I bought another copy of SWG and started an alt toon. I decided on Master Pikeman/Master Carbineer because they both hit action pools. So far I'm loving it and I'm not even novice pikeman yet. Still working on box 4 in brawler.
To be honest two of the reasons I chose Pike/Carbine were that I don't see many of them and that my main toon had a TON of pike/carbine skill tapes and attachments. I hadn't heard about all of the DOT stuff. (But I hope I find some)
