Hello everyone. I am looking to pick up either Swordsman or Rifle to use in PvP in conjunction with my Pike DoT's. Which do you think would be better? With Swords I can pick up Master Brawler to improve my CoB and Intimidate, also I can solo higher end PvE mobs to make money. Would Rifles provide a much better punch or what?

Swordsman swordsman swordsman. I'm master swords, pike 2000, doc 4440, combat prowess 0002 (working up to 0004) and i'm loving it. Works so well with mind poisons and fires.

Can you expand to reasons why Swords would be better than Rifles in PvP? Thanks

Toughness, defense, more and more people are using PSGs (so rifles can barely scratch them), do pretty well vs jedi when combined with mind DOTs...

Yea.. also I figured the better Intimidate and longer CoB could help.

I wouldn't be so quick to write-off rifles as they have some distinct benefits but it really depends on your play style. The problem with an "all brawler" template is you have no ranged mitigation which means you'll be at a distinct disadvantage if you come up against an experienced rangedplayer: all they have to do iskeep youat arms length and you're toast. By taking rifles you get ranged mitigation 3 which significantly reduces the damage inflicted upon you from a ranged profession. Another benefit is the access to more damage types rifles give you.By taking swords you only add blast to your arsenal. Take rifles and you add energy (if noNSEL), stun, heat, cold and acid which gives you some more flexibility. Don't forget PSGs are vulnerable to acid and the rifleman's acid weapon (DXR6b tenloss) is a verygood weapon indeed (only inferior to the T21) so I have to disagree with previous comments on that subject.
On a more practical note, rifles are easier to hit the speed cap on (only need +7 speed from master) and if you have some of thespeed melee line from the village you'll max out rifle speed with no attachments anyway . T21s deal big damage and you can get decent results from well made versions with a decent damage slice, without the need to spend a lot of cash/time on acklay bones etc. Still effective in high end PvE although not as good as swords if you want to just hunt NS (drops are more scarce on those now tho). Swords only give you marginally better state defences although there's not much in it.
It's really down to your play style: if you like staying toe-to-toe with your opponent all the time then go swords. If you want a bit more flexibility and are comfortable with switching between ranged and melee then pikes / rifles is a nice combination (although tbf that's not an easy skill to master). You can add Master brawler to that template too for the intimidation and still have enough skill points for novice medic for stim Bs, although CoB will only work when you've got a pike equipped.
Good luck!

Thanks for the informative response Sub. What do you think would be better, Mastering Brawler and picking up Novice Medic or getting Trickshot in Pistoleer and then 2/0/3/0 in Medic for good heals and great Defenses?

Personally Cent I would go for adding the state defenses from Pistoleer and increasing medic skills. You can tweak that a bit too to suit your needs - worth thinking about going for Pharmacology IV as there are a number of decent doctors out there that are producing great Stim Es with Med use of 40 (mine give me over a 1000 heal a pop and I'd never be without them now). You can cover the extra skill points needed for that bydropping the bleed treatment line on medic: bleed cures are better suited to healing yourself in PvE (egNS Elders) rather than in PvP. Good luck!

True, I guess my final template will be:
Master Pikeman
Master Rifles
Pistoleer 0/0/4/0
Medic 0/0/4/0
and probably the extra 3 points into melee defence force tree?
