Everyone has their own experiences and superstitions regarding this.. the likelihood of either one dropping a great LVA or VL is there, and unless you're a dev its pretty much impossible to know for sure which is better regardless of what anyone claims. I say NS because Elders are pretty much guaraunteed to drop great stuff or no stuff at all.. but if theres a few SMC Dragoons standing out in the wild on the way there, I'll take 'em out too.

SMC hands down. with SMC you won't loot those stupid NS lances and SMC loot is simply of better quality that NS loot. this balanced by the fact that its very hard to find SMC whereas you can't swing a dead cat without hitting an NS

Yeh, i tend to see more NS than SMC, but i dont know about the loot drops.................

one more question..... any specific types of ns/smc that maybe does better.
other than elders
or maybe even the spiderclan?

spiderclan is too hard, and prepare to die if you agro the elder.
every SMC is good except for the SMC councilwoman, which pikeman can't damage without a Nightsister Energy Lance.
look for Guardians, Huntresses, and Arch Witches in particular

i been looting these suckas for ages and taking down elders with a swordsman guildy,,we have taken down shed loads of elders and the best we have ever got is a premium crystal,,,however i have looted a nice mind fire off a nightsister stalker (266 stren 89%pot 110 dur 8k uses),,,which after 2 months of solid looting i think is pritty poor
,,but the swordsman guy i no goes out looting ns vs sm and comes back with pikes for me 280+mind poisons mind fires,,,and says hes looting all these there,,,(hardest things there 1 spell weaver and a sm wich!!!!!!).2 nites ago he came back to me with a 800+max dam pike looted from a sentinel ,,,witch i got a 35% dam slice on (lucky)taking it to 1142(1328 with pup),,,so basically,,,he must be 1 jammy mother cus of what hes looting and hes looting low - med sm and ns and getting these types of lances.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Spiderclan Elders are 80% to all damages though, with the same HAM and armor rating as the garden-variety. These might actually be a good candidate if my information is right.

depends on your template. NS drop nicer pikes rarer than SMC but they are also hard to take down by certain profs. SMC drop above average pikes mroe commonly than NS and are usually easier to kill. Basically, go try em yourself and take what works best. but dont go off your first trip. In my experience EVERY time i hunt a new high lvl NPC teh first one i kill always drops loot.
first time i hunted a force crystal hunter i got +10 2h speed AA, everyone after that to this day i get crap

i've never gotten anything good at all from NS, anywhere in particular i can find some good high level SMC spawns or is it all random? also how about smc rancor tamers, anything good there?

Hehe, same here Chardin first Krayt Ancient i killed got a flawless pearl. A jedi friend ended up with it and said it got an awesome tune, not much good krayt loot since. Way back i killed my first NS and got a really nice crystal a jedi friend ended up with. Im not a master pikeman yet but have killed hundreds of NS with no pikes turning up
Well, none worth anything. Haven't bothered with SMC, didnt know they dropped anything good. Many will die this weekend

The SMC equivalent of an NS Elder is the Councilwoman, same resists and HAM for the most part (100% Kinetic & Electricity). Only have killed one once with a Rifleman friend of mine. Looted an LVA with +25 Defense vs. Dizzy, +10 Bock, +10 Intimidate and .... a max damage of 196.
