Thread: Need Your Help!
I would like the Pikeman's Communities help with something.
First of all I am a Master Weaponsmith that is specializing in Melee Weapons. And as I want to make better weapons for my customers, I need your help. Got a few questions.
1) What is the prefered polearm that you use?
2) What makes you choose this one?
3) What would make that weapon better for you? (i.e. Lower HAM, Increased Range Mods, or what ever)
4) And any other items that would make me be able to make you a better weapon.
In advance thank you for your time. And if you are on Radiant feel free to send me a tell directly, or and email.

=gaf stick high dmg deasent ham good speed when we hit the top speed teir
=styn baton for thouse pesky armor gods good dmg high ham
=vibroblade good speed good ham dont like the dmg
and curved sword i heard has a good range of all nothing to high though so i do not use it
more info
our speed mods at high lvl are so good we do not need speed weapons we need the most dmg we can get
i usaly go out buffed and meditated so the ham does not bother me eather so if you are going to do weapons i would go with HEAVY DMG all the way
the other thing i love my weapon smiths for is i put in special orders for crates of there best so i can get the best slice. this way i do not depleat the weapon staches
hope the was healpfull
i use my gaffi in PvE, my vibroblade and stun baton in PvP
80% of the time I use the power hammer due to thehigh damage, medium armor piercing, and the blast damage
20% of the time I used the curved sword, usually whenI have the blinded state effect
You'll never see me walking around town with the hammer equipped though.... it's far to ugly for this fashion victim.
I would use the cleaver over the curved but the difference in damage vs. the difference in HAM cost favors the curved sword.
If there was a way to increase the the PB/Ideal/Max range modifiers by +10 or greater on the power hammers with a slight damage (25-30) and/orspeed (.2-.4 ) decrease without changing the HAM cost I would be very happy.
Ideally I would want a different hammer for different occasions.
Bleed stacking hammer: moderate HAM, moderate SPD, High min/max damage, good accuracy
AoE hammer: the AoE attacks eat alot of HAM low HAM, moderate min/max damage, moderate SPD, good ideal/max accuracy
Kryat Killer/Single target hammer: High PB/ideal accuracy, High SPD, moderate damage, moderate HAM
As for differences in swords... I only use them to kill lairs, on highly blast resistant MOBs (haven't found one yet), and walking around town. They are cheaper than hammers and save wear and tear on my main weapon.
Hope that helps....
Oh, and if you are able to do any of the abovementioned... please pass the secrets totheMaster WS's on Intrepid ![]()
Although I carry a regular lance, a VL and an LVA at all times, I primarily use the LVA because of it's high damage and armor piercing. If I found a VL with damage in the mid 300's I would use that, but I have yet to find one.
My choice in LVA is based on damage and accuracy. I frequent one weaponsmith (Thoax, the only one I've found on Gorath to make nice damage LVAs with a -36 accuracy mod rather than -50 or worse). As I always use mind cost reducing powerups and buffs of some sort, HAM isn't much of an issue to me, but accuracy and damage is, for sure. Speed is also important, but since slices and/or powerups can cover speed or damage I generally buy for accuracy.
My ideal LVA would have max damage in the high 300's, speed of 4.5 or better, and accuracy mods around -35 to -45. I would take less accuracy for slightly higher damage. As it is, Thoax's weaps seem to have the same max damage as the less accurate ones available to me. The most recent one I bought had a speed of 4.5,I lucked out andgot a 30% speed slice, and added a mindcost/speed powerup and landed an LVA with a max damage of 379, speed of 3.0, and accuracy -36. It isn't a nightsister lance, but hey, it does its job.
My thoughts would be that for those of us who mitigate HAM cost with buffs the accuracy and damage are most important, and for those who don't, HAM and accuracy would be priorities. Honestly, I don't know as much as i would like to about about what weaponsmiths can and can't realistically do, but if possible I would say keep both varieties (the ones for folks who buff and the ones for folks who don't) around.
Actually, any weaponsmith that regularly stocked LVAs and other pikes would be most welcome
Another big issue for me is being able to go pick up a few new weapons when I need to without running all over the galaxy looking for a place that has more than vibroknuckles and gaffi sticks on the melee weapons vendor.
I can respect that pikeman are probably a very small percentage of the customers for weaponsmiths, but to counter that, every pikeman I have met on my server and asked where they buy weapons has answered the same place, the guy we know is stocked with good ones.
Also, he keeps a small number of reinforced combat staves around for those working the polearm tree of brawler, and it is a great place to send people who are working on the brawler tree or just starting pike, they can get what they need at one place. I have looked around for other weaponsmiths, and so far found none that keep good LVAs in stock. They might have one, seemingly made of leftover parts with horrible stats, so I keep going back to the reliable smith. I would also guess that there are not all that many Radiant Pikemen, few enough it *might* be possible to send them an email when you make a great run of LVAs or VLs, or at least let them know that you are around and plan to keep pikes stocked.

You're kidding right?
I mean you see our weapons with -55 range mods and ask if we would like that to be better?
HELL YEAH!!
As for you question on what weapons do I use and why, being master I use my long vibro axe about 80% of the time switching to vibro lance in cases where hitting more often is more desireable then hitting for damage (ie dueling or fighting multiple mobs at once).
I will be trying to accomplish what you have said. I also have 12 expermintation point, which allows me greater flexibility in spending the points. I normally max out Damage/Speed and have a point or 2 to spare. I will try to work on the specifics you have mentioned.
Thank you for you input.
Thank you both for your help and I will be trying to incorperate this info in to my crafting.
I appreciate the info you have all provided. And it seams that the main concern for Pikemen is Accuracy. Since i have 12 experimentation point vice the normal 10, I can add some work in that department.
And to Legwand I was not kidding. As I have never played a Pikeman I have no idea how to make them better for you. So I ask the experts. And as soon as I get home from vacation, Ill be working on that.
Also would you be willing to sacrifice some( very little) Speed/Damage, if the range mods were better?
I am guessing the answer would be a resounding yes, but would like the conformation.
Thank you again for all of your inputs.

As a master I would be willing to sacrifice speed on a vibro lance and damage on a long vibro axe for better range mods but the lesser pikers might balk at the idea.
