Thread: State of the profession Rough Draft
Please note that the reason I did not include our top 5 issues.....the devs already know them.
This is a rough draft, and a rough draft only. I want your opinions. What do you like and dislike in the post, and what should be removed/added. This document should accuratly convey your thoughts and opinions, so I wouldn't feel comfortable posting this without your approval.
Thanks ![]()
Pikeman is in many opinions, is a very fun class to play. However, it can also be one of the most frustrating classes, due to problems within the profession. Often times, Pikeman are forced into taking up the Doctor, Creature Handler, or other Melee professions in order to be able to circumvent the problems faced within the class.
Since our issues have been clearly outlined in our top 5 lists, I wish to instead focus this thread on the opinions floating around our boards and why pikeman have lost faith, and what the developers and Thunderheart can do to restore that faith.
When the correspondent program was established, the first set of 5 responses came as a disappointment. We were very happy to have received answers, but the answers we received did not help us very much. Two of our issues presented, healing inside of medical centers and a Knock-down timer, had already been fixed and known to our community previous to the top-5 responses being distributed. A suggestion of letting pikeman ‘joust’ on vehicles led the response “Final vehicle design is still being talked about.”…We have no way of knowing whether or not this issue was discussed when the design process for vehicles and mounts were taking place. The last three issues received responses such as “we’ll look into this.” We never received further feedback on those three issues, and never saw fixes.
Two long months after the first top-5 answers were given; hope was once again instilled in our community. The combat dev, Lord_Pall, made a post to the combat community with plans to change some of the bigger issues floating around. Pikeman were told the negative accuracy modifiers on our weapons were not intended, and that they would be fixed. We were also given a loose class definition, but this definition still left many in the community wanting to know more about what the devs thought our class should be capable of, and our purpose in groups. We were also assured in this post that Lord_Pall was familiar with the pikeman issues and would be working to fix them. Our negative accuracy mods are still there, as are the major problems pikeman have faced which brings us so much frustration.
Now, once again, we find ourselves with a new combat plan to fix the combat professions. Pikeman are still left in the dark and wondering what specific changes to our class will be. We are told that we will be receiving new weapons, fixes to our old weapons, and that the developers will be going into the professions and specifically changing things to make sure all professions are unique and viable in combat.
To sum up the above, what Pikeman have been told for the last 4 months are:
“We’ll look into it.”…“Changes are coming.” To us, it feels as if we have been brushed aside and ignored for months; for a profession with class-breaking issues, it is disheartening. Now here we are again, receiving the same answers…”Changes are coming, your issues will be addressed with the combat pass.” It does not comfort us at all.
Pikeman wonder why we can’t be given straight answers to our problems, seeing as many of these problems are very straight-forward and seem like simple fixes. We want to know what we, Pikeman, are getting in the future specifically. You told us all melee will tank different, tell us what your plan for making pikeman tank differently is. You said all classes would be more unique; tell us your plan for making pikeman unique. Tell us what new weapons we will be receiving. Tell us specifically our class definition…. strengths, weaknesses, our purpose in a group. Tell us what you will be fixing in the pikeman profession to bring us in line with the other melee.
In conclusion, our class continues to suffer from problems that should have been fixed months ago. We feel neglected and do not feel we should be made to wait anylonger to find out what is going to be done with our class to fix us. Please give us the specific information we need, we’ve been brushed aside with canned answers for too long.
Thank you.
Stick it to 'em! Make them repeat "Pikeman is a profession we created and care about" 10 times. Make them remember who we are. Make them know we want some specific bonuses/fixes/details. No more generality. No more melee-fixes, let's see some pikeman-fixes!

Sure guys, I'll fit in the changes we've seen, it'll add apositve note.
Jarx, this isnt' to inform them of what changes within the game we want...we've let them know those issues in our top 5, a seprate post. This is just to inform them how we're holding up.
Clab...I'll ask, but it looks like we won't seeanything else changingoutside of the timeline listed in the combat pass post.
Thanks for the feedback ![]()

The Pikeman profession has seen some very positive changes. Recently, all melee were given Center of Being, which has allowed us to be able to survive more in the wild and in pvp. We also received some defensive bonuses and accuracy modifier additions, which also help a lot. We'd like to thank the devs for adding these things for us!Also, the upcomming compat pass looks interesting to us, and most of us can't wait for it to be pushed to live..

nice...throw some curse words in there....let them no we mean business.
also put your tag after your signiture ont he end.
Agreed. No cursing.
Cursing is for people who are too lazy to think of something more intelligent to say. If you start cursing you'll come off as a ranting whiningcry baby. Think about it. "Fix our profession please" comes off as more succint and more intelligent than "Fix our *edit* profession".
I agree with CLab on the font. This post is very good but to be honest it is (to me anyway) very difficult to read because of the very small font.
