Thread: the condition of pikemen after the CURB

from what i have heard and know, pikeman has always got the shaft when it comes to being the best profession. personally i LOVE pikeman it is my favorite of all professions. Lately pikeman has become a big time favorite of teh PvP crowd on chilly, but i only think this is becuz of the DOTs. I was wondering if anyone has any idea about (or any thoughts on the subject) if pikeman is, once again, gonna get the shaft in the CURB.
anyone know? anyone have any comments?
PERSONALLY:
what i would like to see w/ teh CURB is not OVER balancing ranged and infact making every skill a worthy choice and the true strengths lie in the player's skills
thus(for example): the key to winning for tkm isnt just kd + dizzy + headhit (till dead)
and for pikes: poison + another poison + kd + dizzy + fire
anyone know? anyone have any comments?

well, i think the DOTs are our balance in the unbalanced world. . . if we had a headhit, i would not need DOTs. . . but we dont, so they give us a TON of dots to "balance" this, as much as i want to be a good proff
shaft away, im not scared, i will still beat people with a pike after the CU, just use tactics..............

well also, i believe they are gonna be capping dots so....that makes us suck again...give us a AP3 pike and high dmg crafted pikes...that will balance it

I'm all for the complete and utter nerfing of DOTs. Should have been done months ago.
However, I doubt we'd get an AP3 weapon. I wouldn't make any bet on us replacing Swordsmen as the top damage dealers in melee. Instead, more defenses to bring us inline with the others would be grand.

i dont see a problem with dots they dont need to nerf the dmg we do as much as they need to nerf the comp armor that blocks 80plus percent of the dmg we do make it to were pvp armor is only 40 resist and then we all would be set also the only thing i can see that is not in balance IS SWORDSMAN they do more dmg then us even tho our wepaons are stronger and pikeman itself is supposed to be the DMG proff welp until they nerf armor/dmg DOT for the win!!!!

ok, the reason swords has higher dmg (i think) is cuz their specialz have a different dmg mulitiplier than ours do...this is what im saying, make us the heaviest brawler hitters so that somone w/ a 400-500 dmg pike is OUTHITTING a tkm when both are using their respective hit3's
we dont need defense if we get an increase on dmg, its not meant to be the defensive profession thus i dont mind, just make it better for dmg than any other brawler profession PLZ!!!!!!

ok, i went to a DPS calculator for a quick check and infact, swordsman hit3 has a x4.0 modifier, pikeman hit3 has a x3.0 modifier
and there you have it, if the devs make it a 4.0 maybe even make it like a 4.5, then pikemen will be the heavy hitters as they were meant to be

I agree, Pikes should be the heavy-hitters of brawler.. but not necessarily the tanks. I'd be pleased if we got AR3 and better attack damage, and Swordsmen got better defense.

yeah definately, i think they nerfed our damage multiplier for hit3 awhile back, if they change it back or even make it higher than swords (probably the best plan seeing as they have better def. than us) then i will be perfectly happy, especially if we get slipped an AP3 pike lol

swordsman are meant to be more offensive than pikes, and i say this as a master of both.
swordsman have a big heavy hammer that they swing at things. hammers hurt.
pikeman have lighter weapons that need finesse to wield, you'd need a lot of finesse to do something like area 2.
we also have more crowd control with area KDs and area dizzies.
ont he pikeman damage issue:
i think pikeman specials were designed with it in mind that our targets would be KD and dizzy a fair amount of the time, however, high level pve and pve versus creatures makes KD an impossibility (nearly) and as such we suffer.
swordsman lack an effective KD without master brawler, and even that KD isn't very good.
with the KD damage bonus, pikeman specials are very nice, even tho hit 3 sux because it has a posture change which ruins the idea, but oh well.
I can commonly land KDs on things that pikeman can damage(non-elder NS, SMC, acklay, Krayts, any others lower NPCs) but after states and such, i will usually switch to my hammer to get the job done.
after the CURB i suspect the differences between professions won't be so primarily on thequality of defense and offense the professions have, but the type, as in states, pure damage, not getting hit versus being able to soak up damage.
I also suspect we'll see sweeping changes with the defenses of NPCs and creatures. I don't think it will be impossible to KD or land states other than intimidate and bleed on an elder. it's illogical anyway, they're humanoid too.

i was master of both and found myself going to my sword more often than my pike even tho i have a 900 max dmg pike and a 432 max scythe, that is the simple sad truth, i was doing more dmg w/ the scythe than w/ the pike....yes i am capped on speed for pikes but i was still out damaging myself w/ swords because even twohandedheadhit3 has a x3.5 damage multiplier and polearmhit3 only has a x3.0
i find this rediculous (also i would prefer if we were higher damage than the swordsmen, i dont want pikeman to become the "glorified tank" profession, i would much prefer to be the heaviest damaging profession)

I don't think Nerfing DOTs is the problem. The problem I see is that ANY Novice Brawler / Marksman can use and pos weapons with ungodly DOTs.
DOT Weapons should be given to Masters *Only* thus forcing people to pick a profession, not stack defense.
I agree DOTs right now are crazy high....but I would much rather get stuck by a Master, then a Novice Brawler with a Stone Knife that does 600000000000 Mind Fire Damage, then shot with a Looted CDEF rifle to finish me off.
Thats what makes me mad about DOT's. Its not the fact they are in the game, its the fact a Novice can wield them.
