Armour is really totally unnecessary. The mind encumbrance is really too much to bear at any time. Buffs completely negate the benefit of armor for the other stats.

Max out your mind stats.
Have the ability to heal, or better yet be a Master Doctor...this will make your life much easier and is the perfect complement to all the combat classes.
Get buffs.
Have lots of muon OR get a focus and mind buff from entertainers. These are harder to come by but well worth it.
Have a good weapon, this is necessary. a long vibro axe with a damage slice hits like a tonne of bricks. The slow speed might turn you off but they give massive bleeds. But Speed never hurt anyone either. Choose what feels good for you.
Get a knockdown! If you are a master brawler get the speed bonuses first, if not get the first sweep THEN get the speed bonuses.

That's about it...

I'm relatively new to the Pikeman profession, but have been working at it for a little bit now. (0-0-3-1 -- concentrating on Defense first.) Lots of good tips in this topic -- thank you to everyone who's shared their knowledge!

So far, I've only got one thing to add that I haven't seen mentioned before: When looking for Mind buff items, Glazed Glucose Pate is also a very nice item. It's pretty pricey when I have been able to find it so far, but it adds about 400 to each Mind and Focus, at a small penalty of about 30 points to Health and Constitution. Lasts around 3 mins. I've seen some that's more potent than this (About 500 to Mind/Focus, closer to 4 min. duration) but it was -extremely- expensive. A friend said they expect it may have used BE enhancements, thus the big price-tag. (The 'regular' stuff I found runs 50k-75k per crate, the 'expensive' was 150k per crate! Needless to say, I stuck with the 'regular.')

My 3rd holo said Swordsman, and my 4th was silent. So, I mastered Brawler and am working on Pikeman. Lunge2 is worth the AP, IMO. I ground polearms I-IV while working on swordsman, using my metal staff to destroy the Hanadak lairs after wiping the rocksmashers out with mind bleeds. I was grinding pretty quick, until the Devs fixed a "trick" where I could hit the MOBs with a mind bleed, then feign death and pop up when they lost their minds. A quick tap with my trusty staff and I was getting 3800+ polearm xp per. Now, it gives me twohanded weapon xp. <sadness>

Anyone know a good Polearm weapon dealer on Gorath?

Some nice posts here. i have been a Master Pikeman since August of last year... don't ask why... im stubborn and have been waiting for them to fix some of the problems with it... I just love the LVA what can I say... Plus the DOT weapons I have looted are just to appealing to me.

Anyway... not much I dont know about this profession. In addition to food buffs like tatooine sunburn... also very good are breath of heaven and rhysicate (i think thats how you spell) try using these drinks and food together as they will increase your strength, quickness, and focus which will keep you from burning too much ham when using specials (focus great if you have med as you will be healing yourself all the time)

Be patient with this profession as accuracy and speed are serious obstacles during most of the way up the Pikeman tree. Get Doctor Buffs whenever possible.

As far as armor goes I have tried it all and to be honest... no armor is the best way to go... there is nothing i have not fought as a master pike and master medic without armor... The encumbrance values are way too high... Now im not suggesting you go into PvP combat and try and chase down a rfileman but with good buffs and some experience with the profession there wont be too many things that you cant solo... In the early stages it might help you some and if you feel you must wear something get urself a nice set of Ubese armor with high kinetic resists (60% or higher goes for around 95k to 200k)... especially ubese with krayt enhancements (encumbrance values extremely low)

Guess thats about it.

well as a trandoshan pikeman i should be able to wear all the armor easily as long as its sliced for encumbrance. right now i have a full set of chitin and the special moves alredy cost 200 lol... i just wont use special moves is all... i mean i dont really anyway. only thing i do is berserk from time to time so i can up the damage for awhile.
