LV min damage is usally under 100, about 96 or so, but you get the idea... The male pikets arent social guys, you might want to try one of those on for size... If you want an awesome, life saving tip: Buy an non CH pet, like a 7k ham jax to tank... invaluable investment for anyone...

I'm afraid your mistaken, male pikets are most certainly social. Its the female rather who isnt social. I refer you to this post http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=pikeman&message.id=12175

Check that out.

You're better off using Fishak Surprise, and Moun in emergencies. Fishak has no downer, and lasts a little longer, although it only increases mind.

The armour i have has 70% resists maximum with an 80% special on kinetic. This is of course unwearable without buffs, but that should be the first thing you do get before grinding pikeman

i bought the standard 4.4 speed lva, got it sliced with a powerup i'm down to 2.6 or 2.8, I can't tell you how helpful that is. If I only didn't have to go to work, blah. I hope someone can answer this next question before i go home. I"m now at 0324. should i get 0030 or should i go for speed, as my lva is already pretty quick? any thoughts would be apreciated.

If you have questions like that, and are too lazy to even skim the board, then try sending a PM instead of posting your ignorance for the world to see... Might even try asking in game at the trainers or Starports (if you can wade throught THAT spam, you're my hero)

But this is only IMHO and should not deflect the intent of this thread...

Oops.... Forgot to say "THANKS FOR THIS MOST EXCELLENT THREAD!"

Really, you dont need and IMO you shouldn't use composite armor. Just find some advanced ubese..i found some wiht 70% kenetic resists 30% everything else.

Muon is great for mind, but find some fishak too...Best is to take the fishak and once ur mind is low and u have to take something else, then take your muon..

Sweep + warcry is a great combo, lunge + warcry is also good

Get defenseI FIRST!!! sweep is awsome, then go up stances cause dizzy is nice and the speed really helps, offense would be my last choice, or go up defense and offense at teh same time alternating which one u get

All I can think of now, except use the vibro lance until master piekman if not all the time...i have yet to see a creature with electricity resists but every one i kill has kenetic resists..

thats my 2 creds

Okies I have been grinding pikeman off and on for about 2 weeks now, and this is what I have learned:

1) Composite is good armor but I personally recommend getting a good sliced set of adv ubanese. The encumbrance on advanced ubanese is no where as harsh as composite. You can also find suits with OMG 70 pct kinetic resists. Kinda expensive though.

2) The best places I have found for xp is Dantooine soloing bol's buffed of course, and grouping on Dathomir doing rancor missions. Make sure the group knows you are a pikeman and that you wish the lair to be left to you the melee to kill since in group situations melee get shafted on the creature kills. Atleast on dath you can get 4+k per lair kill. and usually anywhere from 500-1.5k per creature kill.

3) I personally recommend, if you constantly go out hunting buffed by master doc's, to migrate most of your stats and max out all mind stats. Before I did this I was constantly being incapped or constantly popping muon to prevent it, and it really sucks when you in the middle of tanking a seething bol and your muon fades leaving you incapped.

4) I also recommend having a little bit of ch skill if you plan on soloing. There have been many times where I would have to had cloned if it weren't for my razor cat.

5) above all else know where you are hunting and what creatures disease. If there isn't someone in your group who can cure disease or you are soloing, stay away from the diseasing creature missions.

6) I recommend grinding up stances firstfor the speed increase. The faster you hit = the more dmg you will do per round meaning the more xp you will get per kill while grouping. Also support abilities ups your accuracy, but that tree uses combat xp not polearm xp so it will take a good bit of time too up.

Well that is all the tips I can think of atm. I will tell ya for pvp best to have a bit of ch too for them flippin players who enjoy kiting you. Remember knockdown blows are your friend in pvp. Hope you enjoy your questing up to a master pikeman.

I dont know if this has been posted but,

forget composite! go for advanced ubese with the 70% kinetic resists. I have a set of that and its way better than composite (in terms of kinetic) because its light and....light

After recently mastering Brawler and enjoying the delights of warcry2 and meleelunge2, I have progressed into the Pikeman profession up to the 2nd box of Polearm Defense (with about 80k xp over) in just 1 day.

I hunt with friends, one is trying to gain healing xp and the other rifle xp (and happens to be CH).

The technique I adopted, and still use regardless of the type of monster, is as follows:
- CH sets his pets on the target
- I stand 8m away, outside of regular melee range (stops me being hit at all)
- warcry2 until it lands, then follow with meleelunge2 until a KD is achieved
- Spam a regular polearmhit until the target gets back up, then go back up to warcry2

This is using the LVA as I found the VL to be absolutely dire, even on creatures with vulnerabilities to electricity (I was trying the bat-type things on Endor, and Dark Side wielders on Dantooine).

Admittedly, the LVA is damage sliced (571 max damage when powered up) while the VL is speed sliced doesn to around 3s, so it might not be a comparable test - but it is about 10 hours of solid testing

I use 69% kinetic ubese, except for the pants which are BE-enhanced +15 warcry/+16 intimidate.
I have doctor buffs, usually around the 900-1000 mark.
I use muon gold/vercupti (sp?) for increased Mind and quick regeneration, then fishnak surprise to counter the downer.
Flameouts add an emergency 1555 health for those times when things are looking really bad
The powerups I use are +16% max damage and either -33% Mind or Action costs.

As I've picked up Defense 1 first, should I really be using the KD that this gives?
I assume it's a lot less HAM-heavy? (polearmsweep1 I think it is?)

Is the area-effect KD at Defense 3 as good as I hope it will be for multiple targets?
I can see warcry2 / polearmsweep2 being very useful for groups, then the multiple-target hit after that?

To be honest, I was amazed at the power this profession has, with the LVA - okay you need to be buffed and equipped to really take advantage, but from spending a lot of time as a Master Smuggler I can see how thoroughly screwed that class is with zero skill mods and having to rely on the (now nerfed) Feign Death.

Being able to solo 2 Ancient Grauls is so much fun!

Hey guys! Lots of good tips in here, so keep 'em coming... I recently started up the Pikeman tree after using my third holo. So far, it's been a fun ride. I must say that I am enjoying Pikeman immensely, much more so than I thought I would, after reading all the complaints about the profession posted in various threads. It's true that there is a lot that needs to be fixed, but it's still fun... I am currently 2 - 3 - 2 - 3 Pikeman, after only three days of playing, starting from Polearm I. Here is mystrategy for solo-leveling quickly. I apologize for the length of this post in advance....

First, the preliminaries before doing anything else...

(1) Invest in a set of quality ubese armor. Don't settle for anything less than about 70% kinetic resist, and then get them sliced by a Master Smuggler, not just a Slicer. If you don't know where to find some, visit Katrine's vendor in Falcon Crest mallon Corellia.

(2) Get at least two good weapons and get them sliced, hoping for speed. It is always good to have a spare weapon on hand in case a repair failsand your weapon falls apart out in the field. My weapon of choice is the Vibro Lance, because it is faster than the LVAs that I have been able to find. I do keep an LVA on hand though.

(3) Buy several crates of high quality melee power-ups. I try to keep at least 4 crates of 10 in my inventory for extended hunting sessions. I prefer the 30% mind cost reduction, 16% speed increase power ups since I never go hunting without bufs (see below).

(4) Always invest in Master Doctor bufs when heading out for hunting/grinding trips. You can get good bufs from a Master Doc for about 7k-15k that last around 3.5 hours, depending on who's doing the buffing. I have 2 accounts, and my 2nd character is a Master Doc, so he travels with me to buf, heal, and rez when needed. Bufs are absolutely indispensible considering the HAM costs for our specials. With good bufs, Health and Action costs become a non-issue.

(5) Buy several crates of the following foods/spices: Muon Gold, Angerian Fishak Surprise, and Bivoli Tempari. The muon gold spices provide a +500 boost to all mind stats for 10 minutes. This somewhat negates the mind costs for specials, with the only problem being the downer that comes after the 10 minutes is over. The other two items are chef products that can help you out of a jam if the downer hits while you are engaged with a MOB. The Fishak is a drink that provides +700 mind for several minutes, and the Bivoli is a food that provides +250 mind for about 20 minutes. The fact that one is a food and one is a drink is important because you can only eat anddrink so much in a given time period. Having both on hand can help prevent down time when hunting.

Now, on to the actual fighting tips...

After looking around several planets and fighting all kinds of MOBs, in addition to reading the forums, I have found the following strategy to be the best, IMHO,for getting Pikeman xp at the fastest rate.

Go to Dantooine (I prefer the Agro Outpost) and get two Savage Quenker missions. Try to keep them close together. These missions usually pay around 6800 creds per. These little guys only have around 4k HAM, are agro, and have only stun as a special attack (no dizzy, knockdown, disease or posion). Each savage quenker gives around 3190 pike xp and 310 combat xp.

Your should execute the misions as follows:

(1) Hop on your vehicle/mount and go to the first mission. Immediately kill the two enemies around the lair.

(2) Next, start attacking the lair until you see the first enemy spawn, then immediately eat a muon gold. Then attack the rat that just spawned using stun, bleeds, and leg hits... in that order. Of course, you can substitute whatever combo of moves that you feel dispatches the enemy the quickest as you level up. For this plan to work, speed is of the essence. The rats spawn two at a time from the lair, just keep killing till the lair is dry and then finish it off. If you've been speedy about it, you should have about 6 minutes left on the Muon Gold.

(3) Hop back on your vehicle and get to the next mission as fast as possible. Repeat steps 1 and 2 above (excluding eating a Muon of course)to finish off the 2nd lair. If the Muon runs out before you can finish the 2nd lair, use a Fishak first, then the Bivoli if things get really bad.

(4) Head back to the outpost, get two more missions, wash, rinse, and repeat. By the time you get more missions, hop on your ride, and get back out to the first of your new missions, the Muon downer should have passed. If it hasn't, just sit out of agro range until it does, then start the process again.

Using this process, I have been able to average about 150000 Pike xp and 15,000 combat xp per hour. At this rate, I expect to make Master Pikeman in no time at all.

I hope this helps some of you out! Happy Hunting....
