I do somewhat agree with this message, but I HAVE blocked before, it just doesn't SAY it when u do...

I have seen a +Block+ listed above my head.. But The spam-box didn't seem to have been affected.
Haven't seen Block, counterattack and the like actually work for a bit now. I don't have a pikeman (or other Melee)on TC ATM, dunno if it is fixed there.

I will run a very thorough test tonight on these state defenses to see how well they actually work. In my experience and I think most pikemen's experiences, they do not work well. You will see for yourself as you play, these secondary defenses in no way make up for the super-low main defenses. It's a difference between taking over 50% less damage and *maybe* resisting a dizzy or KD or stun more often. I say "maybe" strictly because I have always been blinded all the time, dizzied all the time, kd'ed all the time in my experience, but like I said, I will run a test so we can empirically see how well the state defenses work or if they are sufficient. Only then can we really have a baseline to discuss from.
Why do we say we have the worst defenses? Because we do - in the main defenses that are known to work, we have the least amount of each. And in the stat defenses, if comparing TKA, the only one that really might make a difference is +35 dizzy defense. The other two, +10 blind, +15 stun...not enough to matter, even if they work at all. The melee/ranged defense and toughness values overshadow any secondary defense we have in importance.
Here are the stats in table-form so you can see the comparison between all melee.

Opeth's original post was not comparing ranged defenses to melee defenses, he compared ranged to melee in overall playability, especially PvP. Even if he was comparing defenses for all classes, it's still easy to say pikemen have the worst. Opeth made a brilliant point in saying that staying at range is the best defense you can have. As a melee'er you have to be up front taking the hits, you need melee defenses and toughness, much more than a ranged player. If you are fighting a melee mob and you kite, you get hit, what, 0 times? If you are melee, you get hit all the time, minus your melee defense/dodge/block/counterattack. But it is well-known here that because of that, it's rediculous to compare ranged defenses vs. melee defenses, they're too different and as such, it is understood that saying we have the worst defensive mods is talking about an intra-melee comparison.
Oh, and on this whole silly argument about unique skills...if they exist, working or not - that is irrelevant, in one tree and not in another, they are unique to that tree.
Understand, also, that you can't expect to come in here not knowing anything about melee much less pikemen and crash our pity-party with assumptions contrary to our long-held stances without having experienced it yourself. And, for the record, saying in one of your first posts on this board that you hope our correspondent is replaced quickly with not earn you points around here, that wouldn't fly on any profession board, not just here. Feel free to ask questions.
