Thread: Melee defensive calculations (Updated)
I've been playing since launch and still am not sure, what does toughnesss do? and how is it different than melee defense?
and what does stun do to NPCs? they hit for less dmg when stunned, right? I try and keep the little bastards stunned and intimidated at all times.
TIP: use intimidate on a ranged NPC who is sniping you while you're tanking his cohorts. This usually makes him run to join your tankage, and a few /spinattack2 later he is no more. This even works on NPCs from 50m out.
toughness is about the only thing that TRUELY matters in receiving less damage, and tka wins that by a mile

No, you're removing toughness out of the equation completely. Don't forget about that, toughness is half the issue.

my reaction to this is...so what.
We take more damage, than any other class (mostly). If this bothers you, don't be a pikeman. The numbers have been runand thats what they tell you. Does this mean we are broken? Or is that just the way pikeman shakes out.
This is not to say that I love being low man on the totem pole in nearly every conceivable spreadsheet, but there it is.
My reaction to this is the Devs like numbers. This accurately depicts why Pikeman are disadvantaged compared to the other brawler professions. Add to it the fact that we don't get any unique skills (ala meditate) or unique damage types (ala stun or blast) and that we are not by any means the most damaging profession and I think it adds up that we need some help. Unless someone thinks all of these negatives are negated by the fact that we can get some nice looted weapons, but I don't think it has ever been the Devs intention to make a profession viable through looted weapons.
Yes we don't have to be pikemen, but it also doesn't mean that we can't try to improve our profession. And posts such as this that put in solid numbers and calculations truly help improve things in my opinion.
Of course I'm newer to the Pikeman profession, so perhaps if I've seen these kind of good posts for months not accomplish anything I would probably feel the same way as you ![]()
