There my friends is the reason why you are seeing lots of pikemen.

Bar none no other melee profession has as much style as a pikeman. . . none.

Tis why I took it up, oh so many months ago.

Had I known about HAM costs, dps, damage types, defense stacks, etc., etc. I doubt I would've picked it up. Now that I do know, I still keep it because I'm stubborn!

I started because I wanted a complement to carbineer (both center on action damage)

I started it and dumped it. I then came back and actually went 4-3-1-4 before I dumped it again to focus on TKA. I'm actually not a pikeman in the game ATM but I still consider myself one because I will come back and it's so friendly here on the pikeman boards. I'mtrying to bring myself todump TKA for pikeman but I can't just bring myself to highlight that master TKA box and click "surrender skill". My play time is SOOO limited that getting master TKA was a real accomplishment for me and I don't want to surrender it. I wouldn't mind doing it with an alt if it weren't that the grind to TKA novice is pretty painful.

I planned on making a pikeman/doc character on another server but ended up going doc with my current toon on intrepid (so now I'm one of the 50 million TKA/Docs in the game). If I can ever bring myself to surrender TKA I'll get pikeman back in a vengance. Perhaps I'll just force myself to surrender all my TKA boxes at once. . .

/shudder.

Anyway I'm still trying to figure out how to get back into pikeman. I'm a bit hesitant because I want to wait until after the combat pass. If they put a speed cap of like 3 seconds (like dan the combat man was thinking about doing with riflemen) then I may not do it since I would rather attack fast than attack hard.

All I know is that surveying for resources and hunting avian meat on yavin IVmakes for a hairy experience when you are surrounded by red con aggro mobs with zero maskscent abilities. I learned very quickly the limitations of the "uber vastly overpowered" TKA profession in those situations. What I wouldn't have given for some decent pikeman AOE attacks when that happened. . . .

I've got a RL bud who I play with and he's working on swordsman. I may do pikeman along with him because as a TKM I'd be bored because things that con red to him con blue to me or he'd be constantly deadsince things that con white and up to me will wipe the floor with him. I think that when I'm able to quest with him on a regular basis I'd have no problems doing pikeman again. Currently RL issues keep me from doing that (my wife just had a baby a few weeks ago so W00T!!!)

A group of 2 would be perfect with the xp increase etc.

If any of you guys are on intrepid and you can afford to wait until my newborn is sleeping for more than 1 hour at a time I'd love to grind out pikeman with you.

Free buffs all around!

An' here I was after seeing Rifleman being the flavour of the month and ruining the feeling for me(still holding on to it),after all this time hating holo-grinders,to pick up a broken profession(pikeman, god how i love broken profs) to see everyone's starting to flock to it?

Unfair I say!

all hologrinders chooseoptions, then professionsand do /stopfollowpikeman!

I wouldnt worry about Pikeman being FoTM - its a fad, all the cool kids are doing it, but then they hit master and realize they couldnt hit the ground if they dropped thier weapon and our HAM costs make Carbiniers look like sissies

Ok, maybe that was overstating it a little. We're a fun class (with buffs, armor, some stacking and a lot of cold medicine), not an uber one (when was the last time you were at Theed starport and saw a Rebel Pikeman threatening to PWN any Imperials nearby?), and unless their isradical changes in the much mentioned combat pass I doubt our status will change

So sit back and enjoy sitting around the cantina when some hologrinding twit comes in and sits down next to you and procedes to tell you (with his Apprentice Pikeman title up) just how much your class uscks!
