Actually, I honestly don't believe the devs play the game at all. They just sit back and crunch numbers on the calculator while at work, and then they go home and watch TV and don't even think about turning on a computer or playing any games. This is the reason that most games now adays are just absolute piles of crap, it's because the people making them don't play games and therefore they don't have a clue what will be fun. The devs in SWG are the most clueless in terms of "gameplay", "fun" and "balance" yet. My account is also officially cancelled and I will not be coming back.
ok i know this is a game and all but in REAL LIFE (yes I said real life) wouldnt you knock someone on there arse if you had a big stick.... I shure would and i wouldnt let them get there sorry butts off the ground for letting me get them in the first place.

ITHINK I'VE GOT IT!!!!!!John Smith (Senior Directorin the SWG Development Department) is a real jerk and only plays a pikeman. The other developers hate him, therefore they are nerfing him into quitting his job. Therefore, in about a year he'll quit and we'll be able to play our pikemen again. Instead of adding a stupid timer, why didn't they just take knockdown off of ranged attacks? I mean, ranged got Heavy Weapons in the patch. Is ONE HIT KILLS not enough???????? I am also a ranged weapon player, so yes I can preach nerf on them. Ranged can do perfectly fine with no knockdown, they have MANY other moves to slow an enemy down, confuse, or whatever. (Warning Shot now is the best move). But as a melee I cannot do anything. Today on Dathomir, I died 7 times straight to a Baz Nitch, In a group with a Commando and a master Pistoleer/Smuggler. There is no way I cannot get the agro off me... one melee attack and they are hooked to you. We have no defence at all.

Why cant they fix existing armor and weapons? EQ did.Now that armor and weapons have lower HAM, I have to quest for Stormtrooper armor all over again, and the stuff i have now is now outdated and worthless. same with my weapon, u know how much money I gotta spend to buy a new weapon and get a good slice?????? FIX THE STUFF ALREADY IN GAME. I know they can do it.
I love this new patch. It gives me a great excuse to keep working on my rifle skills.
And does anyone know for a fact whether or not the *allegid* reduced HAM costs affect current weapons? Or do we have to buy new LVA's and VL's that have been crafted since the patch?
Oh, and props to the dev team for royally screwing up what *should* be the the coolest melee profession in the game. Way to work it through guys...
Ranxero, you hit the nail on the head. (Although you must have been logged in as a ranged or tk fighter to do it. Sorry, bad joke.) I nominate you to fill the correspondent role.
Fuzz,while the original idea was to base the game onstar wars, the focus has shifted to animal husbandry. I just gave in and bought a beetle to fight for me while I begin working my way toward CH.
And for the person that didn't like silvers view about the class that doenst matter since silver has stated before his view doesnt matter its what all of us think and what gets reported.

Just wanted to flip another 2 cents into the melting-pot
I have adventured out some today and to kill right now my most common foes...Imps at mission lv 21 and Tortur Bulls...The bulls con yellow to me as a pikeman right now....and they did present a challenge to me....but I have feign death so I still win no matter what...It was only when I was down to the Tortur Lair that the problem started to show itself...I kill this lair (destory mission - sliced worth 6k) However it took way to long and because of the spawn of extra Tortur's when the lair is being attacked. I found myself taking about 30 minutes to kill them all and the lair...however I just went back to town and used my lowest skill to get (destory missions PvE) and then I would slice them for about 1.5k to 2k and then they were only 900 meters from town...I would run out there and use my Lance and was done in about 3 minutes total (not counting run to other mission or back to town). I only kill the Torturs for the exp. and the hides. The other missions where imps...this is a tricky situtation because for me to kill all three now I can't charge them because more the likely one will go toe to toe with me while 2 other shot me to death unless I have a pet with me...then I can hold off 2 because of my medic skills involved...I normally will kill the lowest con...normal white to me...sometimes a yellow and sometimes a Red trooper will be there...just depends. I have noticed that I can still take them but much more of a challenge. I used to be able to attack one and make him switch to melee then run to another and make him switch as well and I could kill 2 with sweep2 pretty fast...but that isn't working now....so I am forced to pick my battles for carefully...but I still find that I am at a disadvantage by far....I used sweep1 or 2 just to see if I am doing more damge over a period of time but it really isn't more than I was normally doing...(I thought this was uped)...I find myself hitting for only 200 to 1k damage but more than avg. around my weapons max damage so about 300 pts of damage.
Also another thing I noticed is that someone said where bone armor that can be made with higher effectiviness...well here is something I have Observed...in killing imps or seeing others kill rebels...how many of them do you see wear *ARMOR* I only see the Troopers wearing armor for the most part...Ido see one or two sometimes with something on...but I believe about95% of the time I see them wearing dusters or somekind of normal clothing...so if we are being expected to wear armor then why haven't you made these NPC wear armor...it wouldjust seem that they should since they are at a base or something. I believemeleers weren't made to wear armor but can if you want to hurt your stats...and most armor does for us...I was just comparing my Lance to my Pistol as I have before andmy best lance has stats of 34/48/34 and my pistol has 17/35/15 now I ask who gets hurt more now when they wear armor and use special shots....I know I am trying things with the body like sweep2 or spin2 that would put strain on a human body...but let me ask you...when was the last time you seen someone wearing a full set of Composite armor or even just bone armor...just use a dive shot and only use a small amout of action...or tumble to a kneeling position wearing armor...now who is actually using some ungodly body stress there. To give you an example picture someone in a space suit...all of sudden just dive on the ground in that suit and then try and roll to a kneeling position wearing the suit. You think he would use a lot of his HAM to do it or just a little bit.
Sorry for so long, but I am finding this a challenge but still I believe there has to be a better way of doing it...(I am not saying that it is easy for the coders to put this into the game) but I believe we need to come up with a solution everyone on how to make this better...we have ranted and raved enough...Lets help the dev's fix this....lets start giving feedback...
My feedback is: If used to sweep...make it where as someone stated they start to resist it more...they know it is coming. How about 15sec delay...and get rid of the 5 second que time and their .5 second down time because the creatures are not staying down for 5 seconds trust me they are back up right away and hitting me. If possible make it to where if someone is using the same specials over that bonuses are added to dodge or counter or even block...as stated they know what is coming because it is a pattern...if they use their skills as they should which doesn't mean spam their best moves then they might be more victorious (I use lunge1 still and spin1 still because it seems faster recovery time. You could even put a timer on sweeps or KD's like a 15 time on us....no one can just keep sweeping over and over...as far as guns go for that matter not really sure...well those are my opinions...and once again sorry for it being so long. Just want to help fix this as fast as possible...

I'd like to say that in my opinion, while highly damaging to our profession, the changes to knockdown are reasonable. Knockdown has always been a defensive move in a defensive skill tree. The patch keeps people (including us) from using it offensively and while it keeps pikes from soloing the big nasties, it also keeps pistoleers from whipping TKAs to death. I won't start about whinny PvPers, but one small man with a stick/sword/whatever shouldn't be able to sweep a four-legged, 60ft tall turtle.
The big problem is that we haven't gotten the fixes our profession really needs. We've been relying on knockdown as some kind of crude liferaft. KD was never the answer to melee vs ranged balancing. Its slow, its hard to stay on top of your enemy with, it has high HAM costs, it never did last long enough, and it doesn't always work each time its used.
Losing the KD cheese doesn't change our basic class needs. Things like better running speed, improved weapon accuracy, lower HAM costs, balanced toughness, a working block ability, and more weapons are what will fix the sad state of pikeman affairs. Those are what we should be pushing for because, if we get them, then we won't need KD for more than running away or stalling damage to heal.
Totally disagree im a near master pikeman 4-3-4-3 you must not have sweeps 2 then.Tthe kd was the only thing we had worth a crap to keep ranged players within strike distance. They all cry aboout the kd simple fact is a ranged player should die very fast when in the range of a powerful melee character just as a strong melee player should die when outside of melee range of a good pistoleer. This patched ruined and chace we have. I cant even beat 2 or 3 blue splash enemies any more. The patch is ridiculous

just last weak i was killing fambaa's and pikets and now i cant kill a farging elder gualama (white con) **edit**! i think part of it is that i miss 5 times in a row which BLOWS and its like what do i have to kill gunors give me a F^&%ING BRAKE!!!! I cant take it anymore i am done with any kind of hunting. i am going to work on my medic skills and MAYBE SOME DAY SOE WILL GET OFF THERE BUTTS AND DO SOMETING RIGHT!!!

What’s a pikeman for anyhow? I’m trying to think now… hmmm wait…. Where dancers! That’s right! I go into battle and do a few pretty moves that look really cool missing stuff.

Yes our KD was ridiculous and I expected a nerf of some kind. I think most agree its not the pikeman class that’s over powered but the mobs themselves are wimps. So lets look at it now that the nerf has hit. With a HAM averaging just over a 1000 for action and health what is a pikeman going to do against a mob that hits for 300’s to 800’s or more. Not much guys. In fact, add the combat medic into the mix. My roommate is a master combat medic and has already stated that he hates me in group. “DUDE ! Your going through all my stims!” Boy I feel useful.
Solutions:
*NO TIMER FOR MELEE KD.
*BEEF UP THE MOBS DEFENSE AGAINST KD ACCORDING TO THEIR LEVEL
*GIVE US SOME WEAPONS THAT DEFINE OUR CLASS….. PIKE------ MAN- long vibro axe ??????? How about a cool polearm with kick ass graphics and some insane damage that makes others say… “we need a pikeman in this group to beat the snot out of the mobs on our marksmen and medics.”
*ARMOR BONUS…. A defensive skill that improves our HAM cost when wearing certain types of armor.- Probably best at master lvl so that you don’t have dorks going up the pikeman defensive tree to leach such an ability.
*IMPROVED ACCURACY… please.. Or add a really good sound effect for when we miss *SWOOSH*
*TRY AGAIN ON THAT SO CALLED HAM COST FIX ON KD… I see little change worth mentioning.

You wont see a Carbineer, commando, marksman, pistoleer, ranger, rifleman, or any other ranged wimp stabbing his pike into the back of a rancor. What kind of melee class are we. I’ll tell you again what we are right now! WE ARE DANCERS… we are there for the groups entertainment. Who wouldn’t want to laugh at a fool who has zero chance against a mob and then die after one really cool swing that missed.
Hey Sony devs if you reading this could you log in a GM and turn my toon into a master dancer.

haha, you guys make some pretty good points, but mostly you guys are just commenting on the same thing. Why do you guys use KD so much? I never really used it that much and wentfor the area attacks (offensive tree) first. Taking on a couple of guys who give athousand or so each is better then one tough guy who gives about the same. I guess that is why the timer doesn't really affect me, but I feel your guy'spain, There are times when I must do KD, PH3, rinse repeat... and that is when it hurts you.
So what about the other stuff? I was looking at the HAM costs yesterday, and they seem moderatly improved, it really helps out on PH3 and such.
As for the Armor, I suggest everyone buys new sets. I am a basic artisan with Eng4 and also 4 on the tailor/chef skill boxes, and I can make bone armor that has about a 35-45% res to energy. Now that I like
Also, I didn't notice much on the encumberace, but perhaps it was because it was bone, and it was so low anyways.
