Thread: Dot Discussion
I've been a pike for 4 months. (Well, since opening day on my friend's account, 4 months ago i got my own)
I hope and pray they nerf DOTs. But is talking about what we want going to have even the SLIGHTEST EFFECT on what the Devs do? It sure as heck hasn't so far. But hey, we can discuss it...I won't stop you.
all we want is for the DOTs to not be so necisary to pvp.
I think most of the problem lies in armor.
Yup, yup, combination of armor and buffs. Resists and damage types are all messed up. Funny story, a guildmate looted a rifle, the cold damage one with the strange name. For a good minute everyone was all excited when the name popped up on the loot report, many people thought it was a uber, never before found rifle untill the person equipped it. A common, normal drop that most people have never seen in their lives because it is essentially useless and weaponsmiths don't bother to make it.
The catch all comp armor is tired. Lower base armors need to have unique special resists, and comp needs a couple more vunerablitys based on what it's made with. IE, crafting a set with ore that has low heat resist stats should show that in the final peice.
But, this still does not relate to a nerf on DoT's as we don't have any need to question which armor is right for the job. There are two options, high kinetic, or stun comp. If armor were diversified, then DoT's would certainly need to be lowered or made much more rare. Hence we hold for the balance, I'll be pissed if our weapons go the route of pre-droid publish probots.
We do however often fail to see that there is in fact a faint line of balance already. Too many people fail to see the tripwire, or are just incapable of acheiving it by playing in the manner in which they want to play and develop their character. Both sides are right ultimately, but it cannot be blamed on one thing.
Not sure what the point of this thread is..meaning with this CB that is supposed to be out ina few months *crosses fingers* everything is supposed to be different. How? Well thats the point. Its almost impossible to discuss where we want to go with any aspect of Pikeman, or any other profession for that matter, without knowing what is comming.
Im pretty jaded with this game and SOE now, and I dont belive that the Devs listen much to anything we in particular say. Other 'more important professions' yea sure they talk to them and try to give and take. Every one else kinda gets shafted and its in the hands of a Dev to make us what will we become. Which sucks because Im pretty sure the guy/gal who writes what we will be, has never played a Pikeman and has no idea what we are about.
So yea these discussion threads are nice I guess, but more of that busy work you use to get in Highschool on substitue teacher days.
As far as DoT's go, yea they do need a reduction, its dumb that they can blast through someones armor. But as many have said untill we get the attention this professoin needs I could give a rats ass what they do with DoT's. The nerf them so what? The higest DoT I have is like 200'ish Health Posion. In a fight with someone Buffed to bejeuses Ill be KD/D after my first swing, or blasted in the head a zillion times for 500 freaking points of damage, with my helmet on. The whole game is pretty crappy now all this great new content is for Hardcore gamers, and massive guilds of people. eh whatever I guess Im done.
Pikeman since day 1 baby~
what they need to take into account is armor... if the target has AR1-3 then the potency should be affected in a similar manner as dmg would.. once the DoT is applied i see no reason why there should be a reduction... once you're bleeding just because you have armor on doesnt make the bleeding stop.. as with any other DoT ..
a way to avoid a dis or poison would be the rebreather.. you cant "breathe" in combat medic items if you are wearing a rebreather.. found in teh DW bunker and Geo caves.... you sacrifice head protection for it.. makes all the sense in the world... at least until they create a way to integrate a rebreather helmet...
It would be a big mistake taking away our DoT's kick .. i have a 300 mind poison .. a 75% reduction would bring it down to a tick of 75 .. thats ticking every 8 seconds on top of my other 200 and 100 mind poison. in total if all my lances did hit i would have an overall tick of 150 every 8 seconds.
The usual PvPer with a mind / willpower buff wouldn't even feel this.
Oh and this would all be happening at the same time as i am getting whomped with an acklay stun baton ... for 100+ damage every hit ....
Hmmmmmm
