Thread: Our No.1 Issue: NO CORRESPONDENT
For those interested in a class "role", please refer to my post entitled "a question of balance..." and lend your input.
Thank you,
PBN
I am sorry, but I will disagree with you one this one, each class should not be just like the others, TKA can be fast and not take damage, fencers can be fast and not get hit, 2-hand can do damage and not get hit, pikeman can do a lot of damage and have defense to absorb it. Also each class should have its own uniqueness, pikeman get cool area effect attacks, the others get something else. There has to be something to draw people to each class, or else why have the different classes, we could just as easily have 2 classes then, a melee class and a ranged class, you can be one of the two. Pikeman need their ownplace, I don't want to be like the TKA, if that were the case I would have become one of them.
Whatever. As it is now, though, TKA does more damage per shot, and is faster, and is more accurate, and has more defense. The only reason I haven't switched to TKA is that I'm so close to mastering pikeman. Wouldn't it suck to be one box from master, unlearn everything and go play a viable class, then get a holocron and have to tell me to come right back here?
The important thing is that each class be able to actually DO the same stuff. If class X can solo a ravenous bugbladder beast of trall, then ALL of the classes should be able to do that. If you want to reduce damage and increase defense, that's fine, but the AMOUNT by which you make that trade-off should be based on standing toe-to-toe with critters.
If you increase damage and reduce accuracy, for example, then the AMOUNT by which you do that should be based on a cold, hard, damage per second calculation.
If you reduce damage and increase defenses, as another example, then the AMOUNT by which you do that should be based on a calculation of total damage done during the fight. The person who has more defenses should be able to stand there and fight longer, thus allowing them to hit more times.
But what I'm tired of is dev using numbers that "feel right." Get out a calculator and choose numbers that ARE right.

I think some of you are being way too hard on Opeth.
Those of you who have been here since the beginning, can probably relate. Our first correspondent (Silver) tried hard to get changes made, and bring our issues forward. Silver left, under a pile of crap spewed forth by venting players. Opeth took over, and also tried hard for Pikemen.
Just because the heavens didn't open and rain blessings upon the Pikemen, does not mean our reps didn't try. I think some of you are giving the DEVs way too much credit. Having a player correspondent, doesn't mean we have the ear of the DEVs. Just because we don't get feedback hourly, or even ever, doesn't mean that our reps know the secret info, but just don't want to tell us.
We have one representative, with one voice. He, in turn has to hear the wants-rants-complaints of everyone. Granted, in Pikeman, that's not so many. With the influx of holo pikeman, the complaints, rants and jeers have increased tremendously. How many times do we need to hear "Pikeman Sux!!!".
Every class has issues. The game has issues. Support the rep, they are our only voice, and we have a very, very small voice.
As an aside, I completely disagree with all melee classes being equal. How boring would that be. Same fight, different stick. However, we should all havethe same potential to win, based on skill, tactics, cool hats, whatever.

Equal doesn't have to be identical. But it does have to be equal. As it is, we're worse in any situation and by any measurement. And that's just plain silly. Another solution would be if each box in the pikeman had a reduced skill credit cost...

Unfortunately, the correspondent program is a farce. You're a self-centered joker if you think I quit because of this thread or because of a coupleunhappy holo-pikemen.
With the exception of GreenMarine and Keldarin, there is little communication from developers (and NO meaningful conversations with Lord_Pall, the combat dev, haveEVER happened). If everyone took the program as seriously as GreenMarine does, I would give the program an A+. As it is now, it gets an F+, the only reason it doesn't fail completely is because at least they put some effort into getting the infrastructure set up.
Just some status:
- I am in the final stages of selecting the Pikeman Correspondent. So far, it looks like Gunman21.
- I have all of Opeths last changes in the system. I know it seems like a long time, but the design requests were put into the system and my communication schedule is laid out.
- There has been some activity in the Correspondent forum. We are on our 3rd stage of the top 5 items and all of the bugs you brought forward have been submitted to the dev team.
- There ARE things on deck in terms of changes coming up. I have a meeting with a lead designer to go over the combat re-balance and Ill have a post in the development forum and Ill break out how the various professions are effected.
Going forward:
The Player Correspondent program is going well, but its a domino effect and stuff on the back end probably wont be visible for probably another month. Recruiting, input, involvement, etc needs to be more visible. I understand that and Im working on that.
The biggest slow down is part of my job now includes working on Test Center a little more to help solve issues before they get to live. Bug finding has gone up as a result and over all, our publish process has been a big focus (because it effects everybody).
You guys do have some changes coming up, I just have to verify it and then the new correspondent can post it.
I dont know if Ill be back here today, but Ill drag the icon to my desktop and buzz by tomorrw.
Thanks for your patience.
antares
master pikeman
IF we have some changes I hope they are monemumental and can fix at least our accuracy. Another month *shakes head* how about we drop vehicles for another month and work on fixing whats broke.
Sorry that I am a little torqued but it seems like all we do is play the wait game, it is nice to hear that pikeman are not COMPLETLY forgotten but alot of times it feels that way.
I'm not a Pikeman, but I can't resist:
Your leading contender for Pikeman Correspondent is Gunman21?!
I hear the new Musician Correspondent is Tonedeaf, and MrMaggo32 wants to the Marksman Correspondent.

- No offense to you Gunman butto seems most everyone in here wanted Antares...why did you choose Gunman.

- Yea a long time...try 6 months with no visable changes, besides a cool red trail, and CoB wich does not work...you gave us a defense move that we stilltake damage with, WHY? We are the weakest defensive class in the brawler tree.

- Bugs? what are you talking about Ireally dont have any bugs at all...just broken things.Or things that were said to be done and were not..

- ARE they going to take another 6 months? ARE they Pike specific? ARE they actually going to help us?

What exactly does that have to do with us, besides you saying you will have even less time to get us fixed?

No nothing has ever affected us,.....even bugs seem to avoid us

TH did you go back 3 months in the DEV response logs and copy and paste that here?..just curious.
