What I was getting at with the force throw issue is that, for ME, it was OBVIOUS that it was NOT intended. It flys in the face of reason to believe that a fairly NON-DAMAGING attack (it's a KD/dizzy thing, is it not?) would do 10x MORE damage to a lair than cutting it down with a saber? and ONLY that ONE attack would do it? Be honest, you truely believe it was the intent of the Devs to have that in? it didn't wreak of "oops.. bug, but no biggy.. no one gets killed from it*?

Also, I was under the -distinct- impression that there were NO JEDI during Beta.. that before launch in June 2003, NOONE had seen a Jedi, they didn't exist. It wasn't until month 3 after release that Jedi FIRST appeared, and were the butchered "normal profession/char" template we had (10 lots even though you couldn't place structures.. 0/250 skill points when you were made, etc etc). It was about a month after that that I started reading the forums regularly and I promise you, I was VERY vocal about FT on lairs, and slicing sabers.

Speaking of slicing sabers.. did you or anyone on our panel do that? I'd be curious (don't bother saying no.. if you did, just reflect on it please.. not trying to get anyone in trouble here)

I'm glad to hear that you guys are already making a plan of attack.. I understand you might be limited by what the Devs give you to work with.. rebuilding templates and the like.. I would also ask though, that if you get stuck with one build for the most part that one of you (at least) suck it up and build a baby Padawan.. I know it will be stinky compared to the others running Knights, but it needs to be done..

As far as "post 10 unlockers".. I would argue that I technically probably count that way even though I unlocked in Feb. Why? Cause I don't play my Jedi much.. Like I said, currently I'm 0/0/2/0 LS, novice Def/Healer.. though, even that is a few weeks ahead of a new Padawan, the difference is they 'start' with a decent template (Fencer/TK mostly.. or some other weapon for backup).. I started with no defensive skills at all and refused to wear armour. I was actually pretty suprised to see melee defense working while I had my saber out last night (first time I hunted with my Jedi since pre-pub 9).

All said, I thank you for your response. It actually helps renew my faith that our representation in the combat rebalace is fairly adequate, if not totally reasonable. Just, please.. keep in mind us lowly Jedi once you actually get to the sandbox (I realize you have us in mind now, but once you log in and start playing, don't forget us! )

I definitely had a saber sliced. More than one come to think of it. However, you have to take into account that sabers were a tradable item when I first unlocked (long time ago). Since there was no limitation on trading, there was no limitation on slicing. Akurei (Ahazi server) sliced my sabers for me. Once they restricted saber trade, I only used unsliced sabers.

NOTE: none of my sabers actually got a damage slice, so I gained no leveling benefit. I anticipated krayt pearls would become quite valuable, so I collected a TON of them before there were any jedi. I can recall trading 10 pearls for 1 holocron several times, so naturally I used only the best pearls for my sabers. With that said, my sabers were always 1.0 speed prior to any slice.

I never spent any time AFK leveling my jedi, since the math never worked in our favor. Crafting crystals was the only 'worthwhile' xp exploit, but even that required you dont play your jedi. Considering the time I invested actually opening my Jedi character, I found the prospect of sitting in a house crafting crystals all day ridiculous. I actually leveled all the way through knight on dantooine running missions. My guild set up a series of tactical centers all armed with large turrets, so our jedi could level in relative security. The problem is that dantooine is so largely populated, random spawns were few and far between

Trust me when I say I remember the growing pains low level Jedi experience. While it's a great priority to address all issues, take my word for it that the growing pains are the least of your worries. Higher end content (i.e. the stuff that keeps you around once you're done leveling) is beyond broken and unbalanced for our class. Leveling and other low level jedi issues are a hassle, granted, but realizing you spent all these months finishing your grind only to end up witha virtually unplayable class is worse!

Good to hear Zara! Like I said, I personally didn't see it that way, but know that some others will/do and thought it best to mention it so you guys could clarify that. Teamspeak is a great asset for coordinating, and hopefully they'll all get onboard with you to help make Jedi the best it can be for all of us.

I think we've got a great team of testers here, the only shame being that there's not a 6th slot to add Gizmo in there

Don't worry, I have a plan for Giz. I'm slowly going to annoy Ren to the point of insanity so we need to find a replacement. You know, I'd do something nice for Ren then, like try to get everyone in the Jedi forum to sign a card for him or something that we could send to the loony bin (if he's allowed to receive anything with sharp edges that is), just to make it up to him

Well, I'll pipe in for a reply to Savant here.

Well, first off, Son, Ren, Zina and myself have already all talked on private boards, that we want to have the possibility of looking at all levels of jedi, from padawan on up. We've discussed the type of things that are glaring out there currently that we want to take a look at as well. Of course, this is under the impression that we have the free reign to test it like this. We don't know for sure if the Devs are going to have a very structured schedule of things to get done, so based on what they give us for tasks to focus on, we may not have that type of freedom at the same time. This is all speculation.

In regards to force throw, all veterans and early jedi would tell you to do that trick to lairs because it wasn't until about6 months after I even unlocked that a single word was said out on the forums by anyone about it. It wasn't considered a bug, because the game had been working that way from beta up until someone came out and said there was a problem. People knew very well that they could raise their combat xp through use of grenades on mobs and lairs as well. Jedi force powers were designed essentially as grenades. By the time anyone let the masses know that it was a bug (and the Devs knew it was going on for a long time, and they could have put a stop to it a long time prior to when they did) the jedi revamp was right around the corner, and the damage had already been completely done.

There's no point in digging this up. But to say that someone doesn't know how to level or play a jedi because they used force throw is silly. That as silly as saying they don't know how to play Jedi know because it's not the same as then because they had to play with permadeath and the jedi tef. Even without the force throw trick, starting out as a jedi now is AMAZINGLY different then leveling a jedi back when permadeath and the jedi tef existed in the game. Therefore the only people who can effectevily test on Sandbox jedi are ones that have opened their slots after Publish 10, since they will be the only pure ones.

And to the other details here, I can speak for Ren and Zina for knowing they never afk'd jedi, I ran into them more than enough on Dathomir trying to beat them to lairs

I'll speak for Ren and Zina, since I have known them since the first week the Naritus server went live (we all actually were in the same PA on Naritus at one time, very early in the game when running around with a cdef and bone armor made you uber ), but I know they don't stand for or condone the exploitation of bugs. You should see how passionately upset Zina would get when they find out someone used krayt tissue bugs in weapon making and such. The majority of our time on TC2 for Publish 9 testing was trying to exploit the system to see what we could find as far as bugs go.

Does that help?

Anyway, I'm just worried that a crew of Knights will not adequately look at the issues of lower-level Jedi.

Valid concern, but difficult to find players very familiar with the lower level jedi who haven't already passed it. One thing to keep in mind is we'll have a 'test server' like environment with a few hundred players- and many of the non-jedi sandbox folks will actually persue jedi. I found it pretty amusing that we already have a number of force sensitives on the JTLS Beta. So some additional 'new perspective on the jedi system' feedback will help address the lower-level jedi issues.

I also plan to do a lot of 'template testing' with partialJedi templates- TKM/Defender/Doc being one example. The possible combinations are pretty high, but just imagine fighting a master rifleman/master defender/healer jedi using a Krayt Jawa Ion and Avoid incap? There is soooo much to cover in the sandbox, 5 sandbox testers alone will have a hard time - but we are not just us 5, it's a whole team of focus testers.

It is a new system, but a good number the 'vets' are often community heads who help a LOT of new and existing jedi with the current system.Honestly, look at the vets that post here- the majoritycare about 'jedi in general'. Not just their own template. I don't think I've ever turned away a email or PM asking for help, from any jedi - new, veteran, FRS, dark, or light. I know Zina and Zara just want a healthy system for all PLAYERS, not just jedi.

Guess all I can say is - we plan to do the best we can, and we do care about the 'little guys'. I've already completed my training, but I've been very vocal about the bugs in the BH system, encouraging folks to report them, list them, and get them fixed. If I didn't care about 'new jedi' I wouldn't put that effort in. Just one of many examples. We want a system to be fun for everyone, since I think one thing Zina, Zara and I have in common is - we want our friends to come back to SWG and play with us again.

Hundreds, literally, of people I've met and made friends with have quit SWG and moved on. A large number of them being because of the jedi system. Either griefed by BH (no fault of the BH in most cases- almost always some horrible bug or bad system design), discontent with PvP,discontent with the Jedi system, or sheer boredom.

I know there is a lot of concern of the sandbox testing, and the testers, because it will have an impact on the future game system. I'm pretty concerned myself if we'll be listened to, regardless of how well we test and present information.

Lol! I think I passed insanity years back, and just pretend to be sane now.

Actually, the main reason we 'enjoyed' the private forums is a lot of constructive chatter took place there in the days of 'bh trolls and jedi haters' which diluted almost every argument on the public jedi boards into a flame fest. It was just a better place to discuss sensitive things without getting sidetracked too much. But we'd always try and make a point of brining topics up to the public boards. I like to think things are a lot better now, and I spend most of my time on the public boards these days. One thing I can say about the jedi boards is they are generally VERY anti-exploit, and concerned about making exploits public knowledge until they are fixed. But since Jedi are hunted by BH- we found any PvP discussion was gleefully being read by BH and used against us. Not exactly good tactics.

Forthe simple reason of trying to keep things on track - I won't be too surprised to see a private sandbox forum where heated topics will be debated. Keep in mind it's not just us 5 making all decisions for the jedi class. It's the whole sandbox. I can guarantee there will be clashes between the CGW folks and the Jedi folks over such things as 'How strong should a Jedi be?', 'BH TEFs', and so on. I see a process that would go along the lines of what the correspondent does - look to the community for feedback, figure out the general concensus, then debate strongly on that position in the sandbox boards. I think you have a pretty strong 'debate' team for the Jedi side.

I'd personally love to see 5 more jedi sandbox testers in there, including a hardcore Jedi PvP team and a couple brand spanking jedi Jedi to help keep a fresh perspective on things. It's a REALLY big system to test.

I'm still curious of the whole process, timeline and so on. Sort of expected the Test2-Azahi hardware to be testing the sandbox hardware, so maybe it will start soon.
