the knockback is an interesting idea, but the way i am picturing it, quite useless.
So they teleport?
Thats gonna create lag.
Do you knock them straight back?
What if you get them stuck in something?
We does pikeman say "knockcback" to you?
If they get knocked back 15 meters, if they are tka or combat emdic it dosent' matter, you are still in their range.
not only that, they can just walk and pick up the 15m practicaly instantly.
i jsut don't see this being useful, but i do see it creating alot of problems.
Just my opinion though....who knows.

i like archagellos post alot
as for my idea's
1. i like the pikeman wall idea.. to expand on it i think that what ever the easiest way to implament it maybe if their is another Master pike or pikeman is grouped with you you get a bonus to defence or the whole group gets defence bonus. this would be a crowd defence.
i also like the idea of having longer range with our AoE attacks then the other melee classes this seems like the easiest way to make us crowd controlers.
i also like the spear idea (able to throw spears) and that they would be a weak weapon but a new damage type although this is not very starwarsy but im sure you smart guys at sony can come up with something.
and although i would like to have more defence i think a better thing would be a vibro shield that would be used like the dual wield of fencers and pistolers but for defence maybe like the gungans used. but only let it be used with a certian weapon. like some kind of spear. and you could make the pikeman wall only able when the pikeman have shields equiped there for increasing our defence alot but cause we have to use a weak weapon it may balance. complex but you may be able to find a good point in there some where.

as for crowd control AoE attacks comes to mind first. so maybe a newpikeman only status effect or wipe up some pike man only armor... hehe ...... or some kind of pikethrow that would be a KD attack then have a auto run to your weapon/the KD'd enemy. this would be a way to get to a ranged attacker thats kitting you but the time it would take to run to him he would get up some only used for a kitting enemy and have bad close in acc mods to prevent it from being used close up.
as for my last idea as you can see im getting to tired to think so thats all.

It seems to me that we are after 'control', not necessarily single-handed victory.
What this means is the ability to last, and the ability to slow down/hinder/weaken our enemies.
AoE and status effects are the waay to go.
I also like the idea of the knockback attack, but it would need to be on a KD-like timer...
