Thread: Pikeman: 10 Answers
However, I kinda knew this was going to happen. From what I've seen, I think a lot of the questions here just aren't ready for answers yet. Now, I know myself I've been frustrated in situations like this before. However I think I've learned that it can be counter-productive to be so.
The recent changes to polearms did NOT come out of ranting about the Scythe changes. In fact, quite the contrary. It was really through some constructive conversation that came after the rant and in trying to fill in the gaps between the concerns of Pikemen and where the devs were sitting at.
To get some worth out of this, I recommend focusing on where there clarifications might be made or asked for.
For example, on the issue of Pikeman toughness, we see that Pikemen are the only melee profession that did not receive a boost +10 toughness modifiers in the Brawler tree. The question really is, was this intended? If so, why was it made this way? I'm not sure the question was read as asking that or answered so.
Another example is with the lower damage on Hit3. I think the real question that Pikemen need answered is again: is this intended or was it a mistake? Are the devs aware of this seemingly odd discrepancy and if so, is there a particular reason for it?
Let me stress that I'm absolutely pro-pikeman. If anything I'm just trying to give you strategy talk. A lot of the game is in flux right now. I'm not sure that now was really a good time to think that these questions could be given good answers. After a while I've had to accept that no matter how easy the changes seem to me, they will take time. Recently we did see some good changes -- they do happen.
I have had the answer, "wait for the combat rebalance", many times now to different queries I have made. Ok, I'm waiting. And when it happens I'm going to be ready to dig in and fight for the changes my community wants and (imo) needs. I've learned (and hopefully Gunman can back me up on this), that you have to pick your fights. The recent ranged mod changes really had a LOT to do with that.

Hopefully that just means that they're going to get things right, really right.
I've seen some indicators that they are on the right track. I think they have to get finished with it in a manner that fulfills a lot of the overall vision and put it out for us to see and then we can tear into anything that we don't see being addressed. At the moment enough is in flux that any input we might give might not even be relevant.
I don't think the Combat Rebalance is going to fix everything. But I hope it will lay a good foundation. And hard as it may be, I don't think we're going to have much impact until we see it. That sucks, I know. I've been really frustrated with, "wait for the rebalance" myself (on several damage mitigation issues, on weapon related issues including the pikeman ones that were helped out recently, on issues with the speed formula, stacking issues, etc.).
But whether I'm right or wrong about all of the things I've sent towards the dev's, I still have to wait for the right time to play my cards. I think you guys have a lot to be frustrated with, but I just caution you: make sure you still present yourselves in a way that is going to be useful for making things right (whenever that may be able to happen).

2. The Force Pike is not in the game as far as I know. The Lance looks similair to the Force Pike but our most powerful polearm remains the Long Vibro Axe and our most rare polearm remains the lootable Energy Pike. In addition, there are rumored to be some very powerful polearms showcased in Episode III. Is SOE on top of this? What about the lances used in the Clone Wars cartoon?
Check the description on the Lance. I was a former pikeman and got excited when I read a FP lance controller. FP=Force Pike
OMG TH, that is the biggest freakin waste of bandwidth I've seen from a Dev in quite a while... You woulda been better off to just go to your party as that is obviously more important than actually "answering" direct questions.
TH for mayor of Anchorhead!
P.S. No, I'm not even a Pikeman, I just found this post that pathetic...
