yeah, how about next time, not asking questions that have already been beat to death with a fish? I mean, Pikemen are one of the few professions that know, for the most part, what their part of the new combat balance will be. All these questions addressed things that are ALREADY being done. what sort of answers did you expect? "Well, we have it all fixed and ready for testing, but because you asked, we'll stick it in right now, instead of the next publish"?

2. The Force Pike is not in the game as far as I know. The Lance looks similair to the Force Pike but our most powerful polearm remains the Long Vibro Axe and our most rare polearm remains the lootable Energy Pike. In addition, there are rumored to be some very powerful polearms showcased in Episode III. Is SOE on top of this? What about the lances used in the Clone Wars cartoon?


5. Then please, show us the combat revamp. We need a post or a Friday feature detailing what's going to change. We need to see specifics. The Dev Team may not be solving the problem with this revamp, how can we help if we're not given a chance to comment before the publish?


6. See ScDarkKnight's response. The staff is the ultimate defensive weapon.


10. We NEED extra attention. We have remained the most neglected combat profession since release.

i have to say this is another disappointment

lets break it down shall we?

1) Many pikeman view the Royal Guards seen in Return of the Jedi as thier SW rolemodels. From their outstanding red uniforms to the awe-inspiring force pikes, the Royal Guards have extreme appeal to those in the pikeman profession. Can the Royal Guard uniform be added to the game?





I understand that (They are very cool). I doubt the actual Royal Guard uniforms could be added for continuity concerns, but I will ask if either they or something similar can be added.

2) The number one pick for a new pikeman weapon at the master level is the Force Pike, the weapon of the Royal Guards. We wish to know if we will be getting this weapon as part of the combat pass and, if not, what new weapon(s) we will be receiving.



The Force Pike is in the game isn’t it? (or something similar? I just worked with Gunman21 to get the stats adjusted as well).


no its the Energy Lance and it is a TEMP schematic, hopefully the changes to it are decent, what WE want is a new permenant weapon.

3) What does the development team have in store for pikeman other than what we will be getting in the combat pass?



The Pikeman focus is to further defining the role in combat, getting the moves balanced and giving them a role in the GCW. I want to stress that Pikeman is a Hybrid Profession - - it isn’t meant to be played is “Im a this and not that” or “Im a Warrior and not a Cleric”. SWG professions are meant to be mix and match. Pick what you want.

The dev team doesn’t want players to get tied down with the idea of being a single profession. The game was designed so players would have a greater customizability with their characters.



Wait how the blank are we a hybrid profession, we have to go up ONE line is that not a elite profession! I agree that things should be mix and matched, but thats getting nerfed like crazy to where defenses don't stack so mix matching has less and less point to it, what if i wanted to do a combat profession and a crafting one (Pikeman/Architect) i couldnt be a good pikeman because we are a 'hybrid' profession, which seems to the dev team means we are CRAP, while another profession gets to have everything in it for the same skill points

tkm can buff, heal wounds and are the best offensive, and stil have great defensive, quick and powerful for the same amount of skill points, certainly this CANNOT be balanced. look at how underpowered BH is compared to a TKM who can dabble and make an ultimate build.

4) The pikeman community is very small, perhaps even smaller than the jedi population now. Does this affect the amount of dev/coding time that is/is not allocated to us?



I suppose it is ultimately, but not on purpose. Its more of a question of this is a big game and a lot to develop. The devs genuinely want all professions to be fun and desirable. One of things I want to do is work with you to help define that. The combat pass should really help improve the profession.

okay no big deal but why not give us some DETAILS on the combat pass , not just say that the combat pass will fix everything.

5) Currently it is very hard for us to determine what our strengths are. We are inaccurate, have high HAM costs, low damage per second, very low defenses, and are not very unique. Please tell us, specifically, how this problem is to be fixed (hearing "these will all be addressed in the combat pass" will not sit well with pikeman).



Well, Im sorry, but "these will all be addressed in the combat pass” is all I have now. HAM, speed, defense, etc is all part of the combat system.

so you cant give us details on the combat pass?

6) The pikeman community submitted what they wanted to see their profession as. Pikeman want to know how this compares to what the devs will be turning our class into. Did the devs agree/disagree with the definition, and what will our profession be like after the combat pass is completed?



Well it is something I have raised with the dev team and I wont actually know until that portion of the combat balance is complete. The next big change will be seen by everyone (yourselves included) is the HAM upgrade. This is a very big item and the team will watching to see how this effects play.

7) Two of our trees are comprised of Spin attacks and Area of Effect attacks. These two types of attacks, however, are so similar that they seem to be the same. What can be done to make each of these types of attacks more unique?





This is a tough call. I am hoping that you all have put your suggestions in the In Development thread.

wait this is a tough call? how is THIS a tough call its a very simple problem we have moves that are practically duplicates of themselves. i could understand if we wanted like 8 new specials but its just wanted some change to one or the other.

8) Do the devs agree that our low toughness modifiers need to be fixed? If so, how will it be fixed?





No I wouldn’t agree that you have low toughness modifiers per se. Maybe this is a misunderstanding about what the combat balance is. There are a bunch of big data tables that drive the combat system. This data is plugged into how everything works. The numbers on these tables will be balanced so that combat is fair and equitable in terms of speed, defenses, etc. This combat balancing process will cover that. It will be important however to get onto Test Center when the balance is done and get feedbac

thats funny TH, really funny, considering we have the 2nd lowest defenses for a melee class and don't make up for it in anyway, while pikes SHOULD be high defense, but what would the devs know about real weapons.

9) Why is our hit3 modifier only a x3 attack, when the other melee classes receive a x4 attack? Can we get this fixed?



Again, this is the main focus of the combat balance - - it will address these issues for the Pikemen, the Carbineer, the pistoleer professions and all of the combat professions. That is why it is so important.

10) How do we rate in the combat pass? Are we at the top of the list as one of the professions that need special attention? If not, why?



Everyone rates equally. We want the game to be fun for everyone.

and obivously this hasnt been true up to this point. again WHEN is the combat pass coming, i thought the first few phases were going to be implemented this month.

Look, if you are going to give us an opportunity to ask questions and take time to answer them why not do more than a half-arsed attempt. actually ask these questions eh? see what they say about it. I have been EXTREMELY disappointed in the handling of the Pikeman profession. Why should we have to pick up buffs (way to relied on in this game), another combat profession or other things in order to be decent. is it so bad that we want to be compareable to other combat professions, especially the ones who spend the same amount of points, some of them have no strengths, like us, while some have no real weaknesses.

exactly, i want DETAILS on the combat pass, thats what we were asking for mostly and instead we get oh the combat fix is going to change everything

hell when did pikeman become a hybrid profession, Kurt read the manual.

This is a combat (Elite, not Hybrid) profession...what other types of questions should we have asked? Everything related to our profession is combat-related.

the absoulte saddest thing is for the most part we have been a paitent group waiting on fixes but this is just insane.

I say this, and please understand, I am not trying to bust your chops. There are a great many of us who feel that we have been jerked around by SOE on this game, in many different aspects. There are alot of us who are genuinely angry regarding this product, and we just want to have a glimmer of hope that "everything isgoing to be alright, someday."


If those answers are similar to the answers other professions will hear, I am certain that your time can be spent more efficiently. In other words, don't bother with the other answers. Its a waste of time, for both you, and us.


Not a flame, just a recommendation.

How do you require extra attention in a revamp that essentially intends to start from the ground up and take nothing for granted? In case you hadn't noticed, this isn't just a mere "we'll adjust the problem HAMs" or "we'll fix the broken moves". They've stated that they're looking at EVERYTHING across ALL combat professions. Which means that there *is* no extra attention. Everybody's having everything tweaked and balanced.
