Thread: Death of the Melee class???
Good point
If I can take on 4 blue cons at novice, I should be able to take on 4 blue cons at master.
That's what the color rating system is there for, it allows you to gadge how effective YOU will be against the opponents you are about to engadge.
If this system of assessment is inconsistent as you move up the skill tree then of what use is it? Might as well just throw it out and use your best guess at what you can take at your skill level.
I judge what I can kill by what their HAM scores are. I know for a fact that I can take out a mob with ~1600 - 2000 mind, depending on resists and if it's by itself. So far, color schemes have reflected this for me, but I am only 2/1/0/1 in rifleman and I don't use my available skills as well as one more experienced than me would.
GrendelsMother just proved my arguement. He is a novice that is still killing gorgs and womprats. Level up to a meaningful lvl and you will see that killing a red isn't even close to feasible. Killing a syck before I got Pikeman lvl was easy also even when it conned red. Actually get a move and use it, before you make comments on it.
I had lots of fun being a lowbie. But assome peoplepoint out, the color system has no bearing for an upper lvlmelee character. The only thing I can solo with any consistency is a single dark blue con. The HAM cost and what the Devs term "accuracy" for a LVA is so sku'd that attacking anything higher is a gamble. I was hitting a base the other day, and used PolearmHit2 4 times. It took me from full health and action, to half in both categories. Does that not seem excessive to some people? Meanwhile a gunner can use a ranged weapon that does the same dmg at a higher rate of speed, and never notice a drop in any stats.
I recently had to buya pet to even have a fighting chance. I did not want to do this, but I had to out of necessity. So Sony finally broke me down and turned me from a pure melee, into a CH. I'm not proud of my pet, and wish I didn't have to have it, but this is the reason for this thread. Sony is slowly phasing out the Melee classes and making us go to either a BH, Commando, or a CH.
Go to the other Profession boards and read them. You will see countless threads trying to give tactics on how to kill a BH if your a commando and vise sersa...But you will never see a melee class mentioned in any of those discussions, because we are a non-factor in PvP. I replied to a post that said if you die to a BH, you must have no tactics and don't know how to play the game. So I gave my stats, and asked for some help on tactics. The advice I got, "Buy a Gun", "Buy a Pet", or "Make friends with a Commando". Anyone else see anything wrong with this?? Grendel?
So the death of the Melee class is upon us. I have my eyes wide open, while some of you are in denial, or just too naive to see the light at this time.

Gsmelcer, I see a lot wrong with that. I have always seen a lot wrong with this class and other melee fighters. You have this absurd notion that I am content with this class and the knockdown timer. If you ever read any of my earlier posts, you would see that I did a lot of complaining. What you don't realize is that I think the KD timer is an excellent idea, implemented horribly wrong.A KD nerfof some sort was needed, whether we like it or not. You should not win a duel simply by getting off the first KD, and keeping him down. You should not solo reds with ease (or at all), simply by using this same tactic. Whether you did thisor not, a lotof other people were. That is a perversion of the game's integrity. And if this game was playtested at all, they would have realized this sooner. What I do not agree with, is how they took the one element that makes pikemen special, and made it useless. Do you understand me now? I like the timer... I do not tolerate the 30 seconds, or the fact that now the opponent gets up before a pikeman can take advantage of the KD. I do not need the move to understand common sense. So stop talking trash. They don't need to kill the timer, they simply need to change it. And if you can manage to take some advice from a lowly novice pikeman, I might suggest you stop trying to bang out four high level specials and then wonder why you lost half your HAM...
