Pcdruid: Are you dure that we are getting 40 points and 120? This is the first I heard of it and when I look at the patch notes it never mentions pike, ut it mentions all other melee classes. If so, that's reat news. oh, and is this the big patch that goes into effect today or the next big mpatch in a month or so?

Sorry to bring up an old post...

I have a few reasons for choosing Pikeman:

1) Like its been said, they look awsome.

2) RP wise I love the idea.

3) Did I mention we look Bad @ss?

4) I played one completely through Beta.

5) I can yell in all seriousness; "Let me strike at you with myhard metal rod!"

6) Its rare, its the under dog, and I just like staves.

I, too, am a holocron Pikeman. (Actually,I call myself a Pikegirl, Pikewoman, or Pikeperson, tyvm.) Much to my surprise, I found that I REALLY enjoy it!

Of course, my PA makes fun of my "long vibrating stick."

Oh well.

I just hit Novice Pikeman today. Woohoo!

The reason why I like Pikeman is because I'm a short practitioner of staff fighting (and it feels good to beat the snot out of someone with a 6-foot pole)

Yep they added the accuracy and the block. I haven't noticed any difference with block, but the accuracy makes me quite dangerous now. I just spent a part of hte day dueling several people, including a master tka who I wiped the floor with, and a master creature handler with a gurreck who was also a gunman.. now he made the mistake of staying within melee range at the start of the fight...

Pikeman is no longer quite so broken. they need to fix block, but the rest of it seems to no longer be a serious problem with the increased accuracy. Being able to two hit a gunman in full padded is great fun (first hit is to knock him on the ground with lunge 2, second is polearm hit 3)

I love pikeman, and once they fix block its going to be even better. Now if only they would fix bio engineer...

Thats great and all guys but um.. havent you noticed you can easily get one shotted from a rifle, knocked down by a carbine, beat to death by a teras kasi, or bowled over from sheer flame from a commando? Hehe no offense but.. carrying around a wooden stick all day would look a little goofy.

- As I see it, Sony has until July 31st 2004 to pull content, balance and most importantly "fun" out of a hat and into the game for me. I guess I can list "buying a non-refundable year's subscription" down as one of the dumbest decisions made in my life. Congradulations SoE, you took 200 bucks from me. -

All of that is true Ferret. But that is true regardless of what class you are. I can do the same thing to all of them if I put my mind to it. I just have to start closer. Just like the rifleman has to start farther away. And quite honestly, while the commando is likely to knock me out, Ill deathblow him before he can do the same to me, while he waits for his fire to finish burning me.

Riflemen can one shot you. True. In cities use cover while you approach them. You should be anyways, since they (when bugs dont get you) cannot fire through walls.

Sure a TKA can beat me down... but guess what. i can do the same to him. Its all about first blow in that case if either of you know what you are doing. And a pikeman can finish the battle FASTER than a tka with the right weapon.

Commandoes are mean... but they deserve to be. They worked hard for what they have, spent a great deal of money, and skill points for their power. Don't expect to be as capable in combat as a commando without taking more than just pikeman. If you do, you are just whining. The same goes for Bounty hunters, only more so.

In the end anyone who is serious about doing well in melee NEEDS to master brawler. It might not be necessary to get your novice skill, but you need it to be the most effective you can be. Without it you are seriously weakening yourself. You can survive without it, I did for the longest time, but as soon as I put in the effort to master brawler my life got MUCH easier. Stormtroopers die in two hits max, lunge 2 then polearm hit 3 and the fight is over, they are corpsed. Players just take another hit or two, they wont have TIME to get up unless they are in very good composite. And if they are, you warcry them and dizzy them. Our dizzy may not be as consistent as the TKA's but it works often enough to be worth it, and area 2 seems to be a bit better for it than spin 2.

It has also been my experience that working up all of the skills of a given level will make the class far more fun than building up the entire line of some skill at once. They are designed to support eachother so that the next skill level is easier to attain with less outside help. USE IT!

Out HAM costs are huge, this is true. But now that we can actually HIT things its not AS much of a big deal. Yesterday to point out the difference that master brawler makes for pikemen, I dueled a master tka with a combat staff.

I won.

We are no longer gimped beyond worth. We need a little help, but the devs ARE helping us. Give them time, play your pikemen. It is fun, enjoy it. I for one don't intend to drop this class for a long time. Hehe at least until it becomes popular. Right now its too fun surprising everyone

I agree with the earlier post with whoever said, "I shall smite you with my long metal rod!"

I'm going towards pikeman, from carbineer, just because it looks cool, it's fun as hell, and has wicked animations.
