Thread: Who the hell would actually play this class?

I too, have been a Pikeman since day 1. The only reason i kept with it is because you should see the look on a commando's face when his flame hits, and i still kill in 2 hits. That has to be the best thing about this game. Guns are cool, but there is nothing like bashing another guys head in with a really big stick.

we should have a title called whirlybirds or whirlwinds something to that effect (as well as a new ultimate spin move) one thing i think we can agree on is we have some of the best specials if only the HAM costs and accuracy/range didnt kill us. We should defitnaly be crowd control, with our AOE moves i can think of us being like a some kung-fu like movie where a bunch of thugs surround the main guy and he unleashes a bad@$$ spin move knocking ALL of them down and being victorious...ok im dreaming but i still love being a pikeman.

pikeman fact #230: some of the best Pikeman experience comes from Pikets interesting naming

Perhaps its the Don Quixote in us,

Perhaps its just Saint Jude looking down upon us,

Perhaps its the vacuous space that seperates our lobes (ear) from each other.

Or Perhaps its just that we look into the character and not the system,

We want to play a persona, not powergame the figures,

No changing on a day by day basis to min/max our abilities or follow the pathetic system that is the holocron craze.

Or we just have an inordinate love for the concept of the pike and its potential to keep our group cool as we spin on the spot.

The reasons we are pike are many and varied, for me its simple, I tried it, I liked it, I wont change even to get an FS slot.. If the FS slot is just a skill based thing, I'll go get another account if I want a jedi.. Right now, I have a character I play, not a group of animated photons that mean nothing to me save as a method to get another set of animated photons with a pretty glowing stick.

To me roleplaying isn't about waving my genatalia around saying "hey look, I'm king Richard!" its about living the toon as the toon would live. So what if I'm not the best at killing other players, or mobs, I offer far more enjoyment to the game for others, by being who I am (ic'ly).

However, all that given, I agree I am nuts. However I was nuts long before I took up the pike! it was just begging to be swung!

I decided to go pike after examining all the skill trees. Then picking the best melee I saw. That was givin all the abilitys worked correctly, but hey...I stuck with it the day I got my AoE special. I was grinding xp for a lil bit and getting my hunt on, when as I attacked a lair I was distracted. I came back to find myself surrounded by the creatures that poured outta the lair as I mindlessly swung at it. I let loose with my AoE and a few rounds later 10 corpses were spread around me in a nice circle. Thats when I decided I can't give this up .

Word, nice post Andover.

Good to see other players out there (versus powergamers) - then again it makes sense that youd find the most in our profession.

If you were on my server - you'd definateley be on my list.

I just started polearms on my way to Pikeman. I'm also a 2222TKA and a Master Ranger, and while I like TKA and am not planning to drop it just yet, there is a certain element of the TKA crowd that is very annoying. Honestly, ranger is my primary profession, and melee is just support, you experienced pikemen sound a lot like us rangers. I play my toon too, and anyone else playing only to be badd azzz will soon be gone...they are beginning to drop already.

So far I like polearms...I mean c'mon, I got a reinforced combat staff that does mind poison for 2K...TKA have nothing like that!

It is funny that most of the posts seem to be RP motivated. I too have chosen Pikeman because of all the reasons above, with the exception of the almighty holocron, WHICH I might add I will not go after. We are roleplayers, we love the class for what it is, regardless of the number crunchers, or best damage per hit per creature so that exp = r2 over pi divided by the ratio of time played....powergamer.

I am a Ranger / Pikeman and I am glad to see that, that seems to be the combination of choice. We are hunters plain and simple. Ok so we are nerfed-for now. I played Evercrack for over 3 years and almost everything at some point became tweaked. We will get our due. But we are few and that makes it very fun. Not to mention there are not many Rangers either.

When we find other Pikemen we stop, we talk share info. Make sure we can find each other later.

For all the hunting people do, have you ever seen a ranged player get banged close range when they have finally antagonised a critter? They panic and start to run. Have you ever got a comment from those players when the pikeman steps in between the raging beast and shoves his polearm between its legs and twists hard? The beast goes flying to the ground where you deliver some very devastating blows and the ranged person is saved! Many times I have saved my ranged weapon partners from being mauled. Taunt, Warcry, Intimidate, Trips, those people love us. I was doing more damage as a novice pikeman than high end carbiner.

I love this class. I will stick with it!

I haven't been one since day 1 either... I've been carbineer/SL up to this point. The holocron made me go pikeman and I really enjoy it as a change of pace, but we are incredibly worse-off than carbineer which is disappointing.

I'm have been melee since day one, I'm a Master Brawler, Master Pikeman and Master Creature Handler and enjoying it to the fullest. It has not been easy at all since they have nerfed Pike so much but believe me is a great and fun profession.

I haven't been a pikeman since day 1. Actually.. i wasn't a pikeman until about 2 months into the game. In day 1, i hit Rifle 4 in Marksman. (Kor Vella swooper camping.. ahh the fun). When i hit Management 3 in CH, i decided i wanted to be able to HELP my pets kill something. Something a rifle wasn't good foor. I remembered back in my DAoC days being an Armsman... I loved the polearm.

So i picked Pikeman. Well.. check my sig. I love it. We look the best. I don't care that i'm pretty much obsolete.. but you know what? There is one thing that bugs the hell outta me.

Friggen kiters. ggrrrrrrrrr!!!! Chasing after 5 stormtroopers while they're kiting me.. is.. ANNOYING!

Okay, i'm done.

Well I just made Master Pikeman today, I am already a Master brawler. Now its time to work up Master TKA... I will be the pure melee king Pikeman is great fun, though the HAM costs are attrocious. But I can deal with that since they are adding 40 to our total accuracy on the test server, as well as about 120 more points to block. ALL the melee classes are getting some love with this patch.
