Well, I tried this out tonight on some aa'kuans and a player's super-gnort. I got hit fairly consistently when a polearm/2-h/1-h was equipped or unarmed. I fought 2 8800 HAM aa'kuan wardens, when I went to a pistol or carbine I couldn't tell a noticeable difference, but then when I equipped a cdef rifle, I did over 4000 points of damage with a 40max dmg rifle (missing many times) and only got hit4 times total by the both of them. I got hit more frequently with anything else.


My combat logs were too long, so I didn't take a screenshot, but this is something anyone can try. It's really amazing.

Do not let this thread die. More people need to be aware of this nonsense if it is true. We need more experiments, or an answer form a correspondent...

I hear this works even if you have no marksman skills and equip a CDEF rifle, you get hit less than using a melee weapon as a master elite. I'll try it myself tonight to verify, maybe we all should.

yeah its completely nuts - now equipping a rifle is a major melee defense tactic for me - in pvp in melee im now gonna dot people then equip my rifle - aint that crazy!!!!!!

i notice a huge difference when i quip my carbine... maybe its just coincidence but it always seems like they miss more often when i use my carbine

I have noticed the same thing. I used to be a flame 4 commando before i went pikeman and i have noticed a huge differrence with the number of times i get hit with a rifle equipped then with a pike. It crazy though because i can solo rancors without novice marksman. I dont get that. Who needs any combat stuff if u can kill things without any combat skills at all?

yes, this is known about riflemen. when they took out the 2.5 melee damage modifyer, the devs "accidentally" beefed their defense up so bad that they are almost impossible to hit. that's why you see so many master rifleman/4000 fencer/0004 tka running around. the melee and ranged defenses are so high that they rarely get hit. add strafe shot 2 with that, and they completely own in pvp and pve.


i saw one of these templates solo the janta cave on dantooine. i've seen a pistoleer/fencer get hit more in there with CoB on a loop macro than the rifleman. sad really. the devs need to fix this asap.

It has nothing to do with melee/ranged defenses. It's their innate to-hit modifier that they got backward. To compensate for the 2.5x multiplier being taken out, they were supposed to be made easier to hit by melee fighters. They evidently reversed it. I have no rifle skills, but get hit much less when I equip a CDEF rifle than when I'm using a pike/baton/hammer/vks. You can watch it, equip/unequip and see the difference immediately.

LOL, ya they goofed, basicly the +to hit against us turned into a -to hit


its realy stupid that if i get in a tight spot leveling pike, i can equip a lazer rifle, and stand safely in the midst of an angry mob (which i dont do but i could)


have my fingers crossed that they will fix this, and we will loose all the uber-template riflemen
