Oh I am a realist and know the Dev's will do no testing, listen to the crying and nerf the hell out of defense, but it will be seen very quickly that it wont fix a thing.

The problem is very simple: you lower defense templates like pistol/BH/Smuggler that has a very low accuracy but insane damage capability will be king. Templates with <insert damage class> + Doc become the norm.

The devs have to decide if they want ONE combat profession to equal 2+ in combat ability. If they decide they want a Rifleman/Driod Engineer to be as strong as a Rifleman/TKM/Fencer then they might as well just take defense out of the game.

Also understand how the accuracy system works. I have seen people talk about capping defense, but I dont think you understand how that will really work. Lets look at rifle, +160 at master. At 160 range defense, with no range modification your chance to hit is 65%. At optimal that number is 90% and point blank 40%.

See the Dev's will notconsider this they will make a knee jerk move because the kiddies that think at Master Marksman they should be able to kill anyone will drown out the people that understand how the game works and have set themselves up for success.

Anyone that has been on the Rifleman board sence the begining understand what can happen when kiddies cry and people listen. Rifleman is in the position for a massive nerf because of this exact reason.

Word.

I think everyone needs to stop hollerin' for a nerf and wait till the combat changes and new HAM system get put in place. Then decide whats overpowered.

It is better to learn someone else's trick/strategy than to try to say that it isn't fair because you are not benefitting from it. The trouble is that unimaginative, lazy people would rather make someone else easier to hit through a nerf than to learn how their weakness or adopt the same strategy.

By adopting the same strategy you're meaning becoming one of the 4 FOTM templates that seem to dominate pvp right now?

Do you know how many varients of the "defensive" template are out there?

You call it a FOTM, but dont have a clue on how many templates defenses created. Before defenses worked their was only pure offensive templates, there was no reason to have more then one damage mastery, and it made almost no sense except for the pistol/BH, Carbine/BH to use most of your points for PvP.

Gragg it is people like yourself that have no clue how accuracy works, have no clue why someone with just Rifleman should NOT beat someone with 2 damage masteries and all their points in combat that will polarize PvP.

We will all end up being BH/pistol or carbine, BH/Pistol/Smugglers, CM/Docsor <Insert combat profession> + Doc if SOE kills defenses again.

Also one thing I didnt explain very well in a previous post was how easy it is to get +160 accuracy and how hard it is to get +160 range defense.

Rifleman costs of 92 points to master andgives you +160 accuracy, to get the same in range D requires almost double the points. So please explain to me how it costs twice the amount of points to negate a professions accuracy meaning they have a 65% chance to hit BEFORE they use AIM is unbalancing.

There's one thing everyone has forgotten in the hand-wringing over defense stacking. All the ppl crying 'oh I coulndt hit her !' lol. Most of them of course never try the Aim command, or they're running while firing at an also-moving target, but...

Weapon accuracy modifiers. Yeah. On Starsider, the standard laser rifle (with a stock, I fight buffed) does 65-430 pts dmg, and has a ideal range accuracy modifier of +58 (scoped rifle). As a former master weaponsmith, I know this is because when making the barrel, scope and stock, the smith puts all the points into dmg, then either ham costs, durability, range etc.

I had a custom made rifle with range as the focus. The stock was 50/50 dmg/range experimented, scope entirely experimented on range, main gun maxed for dmg then all extra pts on range.

This weapon does 62-420 pts brand-new, has a ham cost slightly higher than a t21, and hasa +119 ideal range mod. I run along and hit headshots all day with it. BTW the same thing could be done with a laser carbine.

These things are available, in the game. Think outside the box, or convince your friendly neighborhood weapon smith to do that.

BTW I actually had 10 of them made, and got a 33% dmg slice on one, and a 31% on another So now I'm trying Aim->Mindshot2 Mindshot1with high dmg standard laser, switch to sniper laser (accurate one) and start taking headshots. Try it out. I only use the t21 against targets who clearly aren't the super-defense kind.

If you want to be a sniper, get a sniper's weapon.

Oops sorry, not to lecture riflemen. My complain is, and my POINT is: all those half-baked fighters firing Republic Blasters at us and missing - did they ever think to check the range mods on that weapon ? it's about as accurate as a fire-hose nobody is holding.

Why are people trying thier hardest to make everything equal? Get a clue nothing will ever be equal once they start swinging the nerf bad it will not stop. Granted this is a game but ya know what even in real life a rifleman with destroy a pistoleer. A hand to hand expert will destroy a rifleman if they get the first blow in. The devs give us 250 pts to play with guess what if I spend all 250 pts on crafting professions should I then whine that the Tailor/BE template is making more money then me the Tailor/Dancer because he can make enhanced clothing? If they do nerf rifleman speed and stacking defenses I will be upset yes but also a bit glad so that those FOTM's will disappear and leave those of us that achieved MRM before they beefed rifleman. We had a hard time then and we overcame and we will still be doingit afterward.

Some people are trying to get the highest possible defence (300 or above)

I wonder if its beneficial.

Currently im at Master Pike/TKM and 4000 doc. The defences are lower than full Melee template.

It seems that defences in higher range are not as beneficial as the first 100-150 defence.

So, what has a higher pay off:

a) full melee with high defence

b) 2 master meleeand higher healing benefits.

The goal is how to stand better in tanking/soloing

CoB is cool, yes. But I'd rather lean on my healing power in nasty situations, likefleeing from a combat you cant win. (you need to stand still to activate CoB)

Master Pike/MTK/Doc 4000 is a prime defence template for tanking. I have the same template.

Use COB when your low on action points for added defence. Then start Bacta Infusion for great healing.

You high damage output, but as a defence tank, you are superior.

Just think, you can Nutrient Injection for 10% health bonus. Heal at will. Drink Ruby and use Stim D's every 30 seconds. And Bacta Infusion is like a life shield.

Add great food, spice (action is best), and defence clothes to this and your set.
