Thread: Hybrid Profession??
Surprized I didn't open this thread earlier.
It is well understood that each CHARACTER is going to need to take up several PROFESSIONS in order to be effective in what ever path they choose, this is the inherent CHARACTER development that exists in game.
Now, lets read and comprehend this. CHARACTER, meaning the avatar you develop in game is by design intended to travel through different skill progressions in order to take full advantage of all the game has to offer. Thus it can be understood that each CHARACTER is to be aHYBRID of PROFESSIONs.
PROFESSION >noun 1. A paid occupation, especially one involving training and formal qualification. (ie a developmental goal) In terms of SWG a profession is completed when you reach the master level of what ever it may be that you are progressing in.
HYBRID >noun 2. A thing made by combining two different elements.
Ok, now lets put all of this information together. Lets start with an example of a HYBRID PROFESSION: Commando requires training in the marksman PROFESSION and in the unarmed branch of the brawler PROFESSION, and engineering specialization in the artisian PROFESSION...per...http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/manual_detail.jsp?id=56845
Now lets look at the requirements for the pikeman PROFESSION. Polearms 4 in the brawler PROFESSION will grant the ability to progress into the pikeman PROFESSION. This is one pre-requisite, and by definition would not imply that pikeman is indeed a HYBRID PROFESSION. To further comprehention and to see this past what can be read and understood I will again redirect to the link above.
Now it can be said that the pikeman PROFESSION cannot act as a stand alone CHARACTER, instead it would be wise to garner additional training in other PROFESSIONS ina manner that will augment pikeman. It is also widely understood that the stacking of defenses which is gained through systems present in-game is exploitation. So we can create a HYBRID CHARACTER with a center of the pikeman PROFESSION to make said CHARACTER more usefull, however, it has been stated through the development team any stacking of defenses which accompany this is considered exploitation of the in-game system and will be removed in upcoming combat fixes. Hence, a HYBRID CHARACTER who uses the pikeman PROFESSION will not be able to gain from 'mixing and matching' in the near future. Thus it can be wrought to conclusion that the ELITE PROFESSION of Pikeman, will not gain from a HYBRID CHARACTER's template as soon as the proverbal axe drops.

Now it is known that TH has a tough job, but he has not infact responded to a thread which he created, albiet half-assed, because he cannot contest what he said was fundementally flawed. What was gained by the 10questions was an impasse which gave the pretext of an actual desire to answer the communities questions. The intention would have been well received save for the fact that common sense was completely and utterly pissed on by the responses given. So essentially TH had the correspondents go through the motions for no reason.
I don't envy anyone in the development team, when ever possible I like to attempt to slow down the quick flares of others insomuch as to show them it is not as easy as they would like to belive to run this game. However, what was demonstrated is considered a cookie-cutter response in that no attempt could have possibly been made to gather information with which to respond to those questions.
Now things which were to come to pass with the combat adjustment give us what? Better accuracy, ok, now we will have more aggro with which to get served by. A DoT reduction, which in the opinion of most was our saving grace. Pikemen in general have been more pacient then most, and this is what we receive for pacience and understanding. Next we get some jackass who I personally have never seen before telling the pikeman population that we need better reading skills? Is this your first post on these boards? You have no idea what the cause of our aggrivation is.
I'm sorry buddy but you need to pull up your skirt up, pacience is a wonderfull thing untill it gets abused. And thats how the majority of us feel. What in the world caused our corrispondent to take the time out of his life to organize, compile and submit a list of questions that was requested, but not reciprocated. It's a game, but time is not a commodity to be replaced.

The analogy was given to provide a lil more to underscore what happened here. A Cadillac is a Caddy, it is distributed by and for Cadillac, so saying it is a cadillac is true, however, it cannot be said it is not GM as the parts are made by GM and distributed to Cadillac. There for we have a lil more of the same situation here. ie. It can be said the car is a Caddy exclusively, it can be said it is a GM car, it cannot be said it is one and not the other. To say so would discredit the salesman in the consumers eyes to a degree where it would be natural to assume the salesman does not know what he is talking about. I though you had better reading comprehension then that.
The statement "I want to stress pikeman is a Hybrid Profession" is false. Regardless of what happens after that, the comment is false.
Of course, the straw that breaks the camels back. If you have in fact been around these boards for any length of time you would have seen that we have been extremely pacient. To a degree that we enjoyed the respect from others browsing when they said, "You guys are so broke, but you can sit here and laugh about it?" And yea, I'll take valium over a nerf, or a half-assed response any day. Of course we are frustrated. I personally am not a power player and have been working on my character for months. Months spent in a broken profession with hopes it will be fixed. The person who is responsible for relaying information regarding this failed. Am I not to wonder if the past 3 months I could have been better off developing my character on another path?
5% of the games population when shortly after the holidays it is general concensous that there were more jedi than master pikemen. Givin the situation the class is in, I can just about garuntee that 85% of 'real' pikemen monitor this board.
Would I respond? Yes, and questions that he didn't have to answer? He made an agreement to the corrispondents to answer 10 questions based off the professions. The fact that it came through here, was situated and compiled, then remitted is enough of a responibility for me. We have been constructive. We have outlined all of the problems with the profession more times than I can count. We have submitted numerous reports. Every time they ask us to recompile our issues, as if things magically changed with the profession. They ask us what we think pikemen are?, and can't even tell us what they were supposed to be in the first place. Do I think the entire development team is sitting on their ass ignoring the game? NO, do I think they are being fed the importaint rational information they need to make good changes? NO, why, because alot of people do cry, they cry they are not powerfull enough, they cry that they get owned all the time. They are a majority of the games population that will exploit to their benifit when ever possible, and complain when it comes back on them. However, one good point TH made is yes, we are a minority and so chances are we are not getting the attention we need. He further solidified that concept by giving us stagnant water with no glass to hold it in even if we were to drink it.
