Thread: Tested! Non-Jedi tanking Necrosis

I was able to tank NK pretty well along with 4 Jedi friends. With COB and Sword Flurry I was cutting his damage by more than half.
The biggest annoyance was trying to HOLD THE AGGRO. Taunt SUCKS. They really need to improve our taunt to make us effective tanks.
Another issue is that healers instantly draw aggro. Very stupid.
this is basically my template. Im pretty decent but i still dont feel effective as a tank vs any high content stuff such as NK or multiple mobs on the Avatar. Im saying this even though i havent tried the dodge food so my mind may change
Re: Tested! Non-Jedi tanking Necrosis
For the main poster of this thread. Ur right its completly possible for non-jedi to tank but there was a doctor there to heal u. Im not saying this is a bad thing but thats the reason why people like jedi. As Master Defender they have like 235/235 base melee/ranged def and if they have 4xxx healer they are their own docs. Thats the only reason why i think people say all over the place Jedi are the best at taking on Necrosism, because they are more of a utility class. (if thats the right place to put some profession that dabbles in everything)

I took up my template of Master Pikeman and Teras Kasi because I wanted to be the tank whenever I went group hunting. The current belief nowadays among many people on my server is that in order to fight endgame battles you NEED Jedi, especially Master Defenders. So when my guild wanted to fight Necrosis, I jumped on the chance to find out if I would be able to tank Necrosis or not. Unfortunately, a Master Defender was brought as a precautionary measure (a real life friend). Our party consisted of the following-Master Doctor/WeaponsmithMaster Smuggler/PistoleerMaster Commando/Bounty Hunter(Jedi) Half Finished Template(Jedi) Master Powers/Master Saber(Jedi) Master Saber/Master Defender(Me!) Master Pikeman/Teras KasiHow we did it -Smuggler rooted both Necrosis and the first guard. We went after the second guard and dropped him quick. Then we finished off the remaining guard. Before we hit Necrosis, I sent a quick tell to my Jedi Master Defender buddy saying "let me tank him." He understood. The ranged fighters and the Powers Jedi took out the power cell while I rumbled with NK.In order to hold hate, I used Melee Strike and Impale. Whenever I lost hate, I used Improved Taunt (TK skill). I also tried extra hard to make sure I held the hate to make sure I was the one getting hit instead of the Jedi. Everyone else did an average of 200-450 damage but I was in the range of 500-800.To maintain the action needed to keep using these attacks, I drank Vasarian Brandy and the Doc buffed my action. To tank, I kept my stomach empty so I could have lots of room to eat synthsteak. Mitigation food is a must-have for any tank! Without it, I was getting hit for 800-1000, but with it I was hit for a more managable 425 damage that my Doc was able to cure easy. I also used Warcry to slow down NK's combat speed. And finally, the Doc kept Bacta Infusion on me. I was also wearing Clone Armor (I forgot to bring other armor, doh!)Aside from that, everyone played their part. The Smuggler made sure to keep Overwhelming Shot on NK, making it easier for the rest of us to land status attacks. We kept NK stuck with armor break, blinded, dizzy, stunned and reckless shot (defense debuff). The Jedis (including the defender) just used their melee attacks. The ranged fighters used their ranged attacks. The Doc concentrated 100% on keeping me healed. Everyone made sure to use various moves to conserve action and left the high damage attacks to me. No one wanted to risk doing too much damage and getting NK on them.I would also like to note that NONE of the Jedi used ANY force heals. All the healing came from the Doc.Our loot included the Belbullab ship deed, electric cyber arm and the Proton Rifle. We had only two deaths when NK did an area attack.I am very proud of myself. This battle proved that NK can be beaten without Jedi. It proves that to win, you don't need Jedi, you need the right ROLES. You need people who can work together and know their role. And while we did bring three Jedi, they were just using melee attacks. Any other damage dealing non-Jedi could have filled that role.So next time you plan to hit Necrosis, make sure you've got dedicated healers, damage dealers, a crowd control and a good tank who knows how to hold hate and makes good use of mitigation foods.Other things I can tank include nightsister elders, giant dune kimos and ancient krayts. I am also the main tank at the Avatar Platform and can tank up to four lvl 84 npcs there using spin attack and area knockdown to hold hate. So remember guys, you don't need to be Jedi to be good. Study everything including how to do enough damage to hold hate and how to minimize the damage you take. If I can do it, you can do it.The only place I haven't tried yet is the Deathwatch Bunker. I hear it's REALLY hard now but I'll see if there's a way through that place as well. And of course I can't tank the SBD's at the Corvette but those are just stupid hard.
Nice job dude. Excellent description and great confidence booster.
The good synthsteak that I've been seeing lately is 40% mitigation, around 40 hits, and less than 30 fill. So if you figure that you get hit about every 2 seconds on Necrosis (hopefully less with COB running and crazy high defense), it's going to last about a minute and a half. So you've got about 4.5 mins on 3 synthsteak to kill Necrosis.
Whenever I tank him, he misses me usually 1 out of 3 hits, sometimes more. 750 defense with COB running helps alot with that. You could also try and eat a low fill pikata pie a few minutes before the fight to boost your dodge chance.
Tried it,did OKAY, untilhe pulled a 3K damage hit on me... I probably could have done it if I had more healers in the group... All I had were 4 people including myself, 2 of which were jedi, who were the healers.
When we did it, it was glitched, though. The power generator thing didn't show up, so we couldn't destroy it to keep him from recharging...

we mop up necrosis with 3 people on a regular basis. Im main tank, healer in the back, and a jedi as off tank. we take him out in about 45 seconds. Im tkm, mpike, doc 4-0-0-0. When necrosis does his area hit, I take about 800-1k damage. No biggie since my health is at 3900-4200 depending on if i take a booster blue or not.
agreed, I even managed to do it with just me and one more, but are you using synthsteak?
he tends to hit me for 650-800 or so, but I'm chewing on steak the whole fight...
