Thread: Focus Thread: Pikeman Tanking
I think I have my template sorted now. I went for the all out defensive, and it seems to be a nice tank. Master Pikewoman/TKM/Brawler and the defensive line of swordswoman.
With BE clothes (minus the armour - I'm loving the innate from TKM at the moment) I think my melee defense is at something like 303. Which is quite nice! And with Center Of Being...
Still....i find it very hard to hold agro. Which is quite annoying when you are trying to tank for weaker fighters.

CoB comes from brawler 1xxx or x2xx or xx3x or xxx1. So it's any brawler's move

Center of Beingmakes a noticeable difference (yea yea, its not a pikeman move...)
Did anyone else notice that?
Yeah, you're right. I guess I meant to say Advanced CoB. Doubles the defense bonus (from +250 I think to +500).
Advanced CoB is awesome. Except for the fact that it's so friggin short that it goes out before you're done fighting. I do hate the fact that you have to stand still for it to warm up and actually stick.

Taunt's still pretty worthless though (even with TKA improved taunt mods). I mainly just placed myself between my gunmonkey and the mob, which worked pretty well. If they got away from me though there was little I could do to lure the mob back onto me.

At the moment .. I don't last longer than ranged.
Melee = risk. You have to go up against your target .. keep in range and stand toe to toe (harder than it sounds when there is lag all around and everytime you go to attack you get 'Too Far' messages thrown at you. Currently it seems that my Dizzy and Blind recoveries etc dont have any effect so I can't shake dizzy kd. If they did work however - I would be a lot happier. I see my role being about wrapping up the target with states and kd's - dodging attacks so that Ranged get some peace and quiet and deal the damage.

I don't feel that I am a TRUE tank...just one that can sorta distract a mob for a bit. I am MPikes/MBrawler/CH 3020, and I teamed up with a Novice SL and some kinda BH I think. I would send a baby in to pull the mob (still new at CH), and then taunt when it was near. It would ignore my critter and commence to whoopin my butt. I am lvl 64 atm and use Stim-Ds, but could not keep it up before I incapped, and my mate would get beat on and almost incap as well. This seem to be doing ok, but rather slow as he was healing himself twice as much as I was. Aggro was a big problem in that I could not keep it off him either. I do not have any other Defensive professions, so maybe that is why I drop like a rock?
I think a solution to the aggro problem would be to make the attacks given in the tanking profs to have an inherent taunt, so that aggro management is not a problem. However, I think that you should have to use the weapon intended for those attacks for the taunt to work. In example, a Pike attack would only have a taunt effect if a Polearm weapon were used. This way the attacks can still be used across the professions, but the Pike would need to be equipped for it to have this affect, and therefore only a tank could be able to use it. The same would be true for unarmed, and the other tanks...which I have no idea who they are at the moment.
As for dealing out damage, I understand that Tanks are not as good at that but think that a true tank should still be able to last a fight with an even level....especially with a lower level mob. I can't understand why mobs have my class should be able to incap me or even outdamage me at times. I should be able to swat a huurton that is lvl 25 or so like I did before and not notice any damage taken, nor do I think a lvl 11 gronda be able to incap me...twice.
Just my thoughts, suggestions and opinions. Do with them what you will.
uum something wrong with ur char then as i can solo a single lvl 82 but its a very close call with lots of bacta and stims

That is correct. You can't expect to beat a lvl 80 creature/NPC right now. They just started high level testing, so it will be about a week before it all falls into line.
