Thread: Armor or no armor?

I don't think the question was how do I equip each piece of armor, one at at time, it's more "how do I create the macro that will let me do it with one press of a button?".

I have a whole row of hotkeys with each piece of my armor in it, whenever I want to do a quick change I need to scroll to that row, then press each hotkey. This is not optimal. Can you please share with us how to set up a macro that will hit all of the hotkeys for us?

This macro can than be placed on our main hotkey bars and when pressed will equip/unequip our armor with just the push of that hotkey button.

Thank you in advance

Heard some good arguments for either side actually so I'm curious if you wear armor and what type do you wear

Good armor is absolutelya must at higher levels. Most who complain have junk. I have a set of ubese that is 47 Kinetic and each piece is sliced for reduced HAM.

Cost about 35K with the slicing, but I can stand toe to toe with two to three mobs for quite a while with it on, and get murdered with it off.

I'm a TK Expert 2/2/4/3 And i have yet to see any other TK's use armor. I know at least on my server. There arent many TKs running around, i think i can count 5 or so that i see actively. None wear armor including myself. Its not worth it, it lowers your regen rate on your HAMs considerably. The only peice of armor i would ever recommend and i use it almost 24/7 is a composite helm with the highest resists on it with the lowest mind.

Right now my composite helm is 60% resists with 240 mind. Granted the mind is high but the 60% to resists especially the mind ham is great. When i need to regen my mind bar i just take the helm off. I cant count how many times ive had died without my helm. But again thats the ONLY peice id ever suggest a TK to wear. The rest is useless.

Sure you could wear boots, or gloves or some of the small peices but think about it... how many times do you get shot in the wrist, the foot, the hands? Not alot at all, i dont think you get hit enough in those areas to warrant a reason to wear em. You could wear just legs or just chest but again, the encumberance on them is so much its not worth it.

So like i said, get yourself a composite helm with the highest resists you can, dont worry about the ham on it.

I will add this. IF your gonna tank a HUGE mob and dont mind migrating your stats then buy a set of composite armor with extremely HIGH resists for tanking, and only put it on if your gonna be a meatshield andNOT going to use a SINGLE special otherwise you would kill yourself.

Again as i had said in my post above, i wont bother with armor. I wont waste my money cause i solo 90% of the time.

Well I see allot of people running around in game fighting and PVPing without armor. What are the advantages to having armor and not having armor? And why should I go with or without armor? Im planning on being a Pistolear Commando and I might try t mix some CH into it if I can fit it..

wearing armor decreases your secondary stats which affect how much your moves cost, and how fast your primary stats regenerate.

Some people have high special move costs, so performing their powerful moves kills them pretty fast in armor.

Some people can't afford it.

Some people just don't like it

Armor allows you to absorb lots of damage and its great, unless you like to spam high cost special moves. In order to wear armor effectively you need to be willing to adjust your character points to secondary skills eat lots or food, do lots of spice and get the occasional doctor buff. If you do those things and are a little conservative about using special moves that have high ham costs I think you’ll find that armor is most beneficial.

i carry around a suit of bone i throw on whenever i start taking blaster fire. as soon as my pets draw the fire, i remove it. the only effective way to use armor is have it marcro'd and hotkeyable so you don't have to wear it a second longer than needed.

Armor gives you an armor rating of 1 (AR1). This causes you to take 25% less damage. Then you add the specific damage resist of the armor for addtional damage reduction.

The downside is your secondary stats are lower, maybe even much lower. This will raise the cost of your special moves and slow regeneration. The slower regeneration is usually not a big problem, since you can remove the armor between combats.

So it comes down to protection vs special attack costs. each person/profession must weigh these costs.

I personally prefer armor and the more the better. If you aren't taking damage you can fight longer. Now that said, I usually carry around enough firepower to not need to use special maneuvers. I save them for when I REALLY am in a fix, but otherwise just use my normal combat and crush things while they shoot their pathetic bb's at my armored awesomeness.

For people who prefer the special maneuvers (or for those who can't use the BIG guns yet and need to take down stuff quick so the special moves are necessary) I would advise as was said before only use it when you need it.

Definitely have it hotkeyed though, so when you are sitting in camp you aren't using it. May want a set of normal clothes hotkeyed as well so you aren't sitting around in your undies while in camp, hehe.

Im a Human Swordsman and I'm also going the Master Brawler route. What, if any, armor would be best to look for?

I've been told by some not to wear any armor and others have told me that they wouldnt be caught dead without it.
