Thread: Armor or no armor?

A question to the experts here -- to what degree should a Pistoleer wear armor?

What is an acceptable ceiling for Stat Encumbrance? I'm using the default Human Marksman stats with no migration.

What would be considered a good suit of armor (having a hard time weeding through the bazaar)?

Full suit? Only Chest? Only Chest and Legs? etc.

Any guidance would be appreciated. If it makes any difference, I do not engage in PVP, only PVE.

Armor is absoloutely useless for a pistoleer, and for just about anyone for that matter, especially in PvE. Just don't get hit and you'll be fine.... or be prepared to remove your armor anytime you want to even regenerate a smidge.

I use bone armor for use against ranged attacks (I'm pretty sure it gives the best Energy defense and has the lowest encumbrance of all the armors; it also gives Restraint defense--which I suppose might be versus attacks on movement) from NPCs and mobs. I always remove it against melee since it doesn't give enough protection to offset its encumbrance.

I'm a Master Artisan, so I make my own bone armor from the most malleable (malleability affects encumbrance) materials I can find and then put the experimentation into resistance and quality. I can also make good repair tools for upkeep.

I definately notice the difference in wearing my bone armor and not wearing it when fighting against range-attacking NPCs. You can test it yourself by Burst-running through a group of white-con Tuskens while wearingfull bone armor and then trying it without the bone armor (with the bone armor, you'll probably bleed to death after surviving; without the armor, you won't be alive long enough to realize the first bleed tick).

I've only looked at other armors on the bazaar and have yet to find anything that I would wear over the bone armor I make myself--I'm an encumbrance nazi though.

I wear a full suit of Ubeeseminus the helm. My regen stats don't matter to me becuase I'm a medic and heal myself constantly during fights. I don't wear the helm, becuase my mind is the only thing that needs regen.

I've got a full set of Chitin. I have tried fighting with, and without it. You definitely take more damage without it. When you reach a certain point I feel you can do missions and kill just about any animal without really needing it. But for noobs, I'd say start with it, then work your way to only using it in hairy battles, like with all those pesky Tuskens...

When grinding exp i prefer to wear no armor. In almost all cases the target will never reach u. This will give you a good regen rates as well as saving ur armor for pvp.

Is there any sort of macro one could use to quickly swap clothes and armor? Maybe using the item's unique ID?

Something like:

/equip SV84K47;

/equip H5417TY;

etc, etc. Or somehow applying Aliases so you can say "/equip armor".

Does any moacro like this exist? Or is there another easy way to quickly swap clothes and armor?

All right, but apart from the sanitation droids, bionic limbs, hyper-drive, moisture vaporators, galactic order, abolisment of slavery, star charts, the compact and efficient central government and interplanetary free trade, what has the Empire ever done?"

Just drag the piece of armor you want to take on and off into one of the hotkeys then you can use a macro to do all the hot keys that have armor on them that way you can take off and put on all your armor with one key.

Just drag it from your inventory onto your quickbar at the top. Then when you press that key, it will toggle between equipped and unequipped. Works for weapons as well.

For the first three weeks I always wore armor, everything from bone to chiltin, but after reading some posts I dropped the armor and it worked great for me. But now I traded in all my rebel faction points for rebel marine armor which is low cost to HAM and has a 30% resist on everything and that's the only armor I would ever consider using and I use it all the time.

Unless you have rebel/imperial armor dont bother.

Do you have to be Overt to equip the faction armor?
