Curious about the Terrain Negotiation skill mod: I've read that if you don't have the base skill, say from Scout, a skill mod increasing it doesn't help you. I have no Scout skills, but I do have a Long Vibro Axe with +25 Intimidation (which skill I do have), Polearm Counter Attack +18, and Terrain Negotiation +9. When I run with this axe, I really don't notice a speed increase. My skill mod window looks like +0/+9 because of the axe. It's also 114-456 3.1 spd for the hell of it if anyone is curious.

Thanks a lot for the post, it really helped me out, as someone who just looted his first two lances. I know my first one is junk. I suspect the other one is also junk, but the line "except terrain negotiation" in the mods section is throwing me off.
So, I just want to make sure this IS junk before I toss it:
Nightsister Lance
Condition: 700/750
Mods: Dodge +4, Polearm Counter Attack +5, Terrain Negotiation +9
7-133 damage, 6.2 speed
Health Disease 40str/1200 duration/70% potency/ 8000 uses.
Thanks. I'd just hate to destroy it if anyone could use it. Don't really care about getting money for it.

Thats a Nice pike..anything over 800 max damage is pretty good for pve but still **edit** for pvp as we cant realy hit anyone anyways!

I looted a Vibro lance with the stats:
Vibro Lance:
condition 513/750
Skill mods:
Block 9
Defense vs. Intimidate 9

Damage 175-642
Wound 38%

Well I don't know if the damage is that good, but if I assume it is, then the skillmods would be usefull. So I think I have a quite good lance here, but I'm still not certain. Can anyone verify it?

First off, focus people, this is not a pricing thread. /wink
Drokar bothdots on that NS lance are explicity listed as garbage in the original post.
However you help make a point so...
I will try to highlight and clarify, because the last 2 postsarea perfect illustration of a point made in the main post.
Notice how both have similar mods, esp block which IS a pike skill and therefore somewhat useful on a pikle...
BUT
One is a good find and one is not. The reason IS listed in the original post. Everyone see it? Look closely...
Drokar did not state that his was a NS Lance specifically but the health disease is a telltale sign.
As stated in the main post, with such low damage on a weapon with AP0 (no armor piercing) it is not that useful.
(Even with those mods, and dodge for isntance is NOT a pike skill so....it wont help)
However Biofinger's VL is quite nice. Look at the DAMAGE (is this unsliced I wonder, good either way) .
175-642 if unsliced has the potential to become a lethal VL, and the orignal post also show this if you read closely.
In this case the mods will be a nice addition because the weapon itself is quite useful.
The block +9 is a very solid mod. But ONLY because the weapon is otherwise good.
Got it? The moral of the story is 3 fold:
1) Do your homework - read the post, 1% potency 'whats it worth' indeed =P
2)DAMAGEIS KEY when its not a good dot weapon (NS lance with 400 damage not good, VL with almost 650 very good)
3) Mods ONLY MATTER IF the weapon is useful for fighting with (see number 2) with the notable exception of decent nerrain negotiation (10+).
