Thread: ok this is sad
I'm with you Shiva, that's completely illogical and cruel.
Making the smuggler PAY..to open a container for YOU..where you get the items. (**edit**?)
"But you get exp for it!"
Ok..so be nice and let me get the exp without having to pay for it, i guarantee you didn't pay for most if not all of your skills, why should i be any different.
It takes 45 seconds out of your day, we get experience, you get some items.
Everyone is happy.
Oh forgot to mention.
Now that I am slicer 4 I charge 1k to open containers. The customer has to come to me too.
At 1k I'm still doing them a favor so I don't really care if people don't want the service. I'm too busy having fun to stand around waiting for customers.
The clamp costs 90 resources x 5 cr each of bazaar + laser knife ~ 500 cr. So I'm only making 500 credits which is what I can make by killing one npc in less time.
Hmm think I charge 2k now unless they are standing right next to me lol.
FYI. I found a good place to get locked container drops. The Aragathu Cave close to Kora Vella. I've been chain killing there to get my unarmed xp. So far I've gotten about 12 locked containers. I also got 18K unarmed xp yesterday when the servers were up.
Its a good place to go for lower level mobs but it gets too crowded. I went out to Rori to checkout the bat caves and theywere little high for me (they coned yellow). I'll happily go to anyplace I can get some good unarmed xp if anyone knows where.
But you should be able to get some locked containers plus you can run around and get some easy pistol xp there. Check 'cinco' the devs posts for the location. He also posted alot of /locs for a number of 'dungeon' type places.
You'd think a smuggler would be more familiar with the workings of the free market - especially when their job is to be the champion on the free market against an overbearing authoritarian regime (which makes the existence of Imperial smugglers pretty stupid.)
Paying for containers makes perfect sense. We've got a lot of smugglers, and not so many containers. Supply and demand, baby. The market will correct itself when things get so ugly that people start saying "forget this smuggler nonsense" and go work for Bounty Hunter or something else.

Leave it to a Rebel to try to convince himself and everybody else that he has some kind of grand mission/purpose. ![]()
Smuggling is all about making money, plain and simple. It is far more profitable to BE the power than to fight the power.
Back on the topic, I like the free market economy a lot. It is based upon very simple concepts, yet still manages to be interesting and keep you on your toes. You charge whatever you want to charge and people will either pay it or not. If they wont pay it then you are forced to adapt to survive. If you do not adapt then you fail.
Not exactly rocket science. ![]()
Of course it's all about making money. That's what MAKES you the champion on the free market. It's great when grand purposes can fill your wallet.
Besides, I still can't figure out why the Empire would ever have use for a Smuggler as anything but a security consultant.
Well as I have mentioned before, and I kinda like this idea that if one side had resources that the other could not get anddidn't want them get. Then someone would have to smuggle them. So it really wouldn't matter so much which side you were on. Also as I have mentioned before that smuggling alot of times has to do with moving illegal items through lawless areas. You oviously have little protection from any group or authority through much of where you are traveling and you are mostly exposed to many threats not just imperial or rebel.
Anywhere thereare restrictions in the traded of items, whether import or export restrictionsif there is a underlying demand then smugglers have to step up to fill in that demand. It could be for bad ie exporting arms to rebels or terrorist or criminals orimporting drugs to feed drug addicted kids. Or it could be for good but still illegal ie bringing conterfiet aids drugs to save lives in poor countries against intelectual property demands of large pharmacuticle companies profits. Which is still kinda bad but questionable morality.
But look at today. Bringing in carpets from poor regions of Iran against the Iran embargo bysaying they came from Pakstan is very illegal. Even though it helps bring in needed money to poor people and does little to keep the 'evil' clerics in power in Iran. Also, bringing garlic in via Vietnam against anti-dumping duties from China is illegal. Buying diamonds in Liberia is very illegal because most of that goes to weapons. But some of it might go to food. Just like bringing weapons to the conflict despite both side desparately need weapons to kill the other. Its very bad and wrong but there is a demand. When he law of supply and demand out weigh the law of humanity and justice you can find the heart of a smuggler. Anf that could be on either side of the conflict.
I've had a couple of containers for a few weeks. I knew the contents were probably worthless so I tried to give them away to any smuggler that could use them even though I was going to attempt the smuggler tree myself. The best I found was a few polite rebuffs that they didn't need to slice containers anymore. Needless to say, as a Novice Smuggler, I'm kind of glad no one paid attention.
Now that I am looking for them myself, what is the best approach?
It seems a little strange shouting "I'm a smuggler. I'll slice your locked containers" in the middle of town. In fact, when I was looking for the trainer, I would just send tells to the marksman and bounty hunters until a smuggler showed up on search. I'm not that much into the role playing but itdoes seem strange to advertise that you are a double crossing, underhanded, lock picking spice vendor -- although I will still probably wear the title from time to time because I feel like I walked over hot coals to get here and let's be honest, smuggler is one of the most interesting professions in the game. Is there a good place to go to loot containers? Would any advanced smugglers on Corbantis be willing to trade for their unsliced containers?
I got thru slicing 0 and 1 mainly on containers, and at a 50% rate...
that's a lot of duds lined up in my house :->
I don't know why anyone would pay 500c for a container.
I have purchased 25-50c CDEFs to get xp, but that's it.
go to kor vella in corelia kill the thug kinda guys that spawn there, they drop containers.
