SWG is about giving people choice. Choice to dabble in different professions. Choice to change their profession choices without rerolling their character. Choice to equip weapons and armour "because it looks cool" at the cost of reduced efficiency with the uncertified gear. Anyone can own a pet. Anyone can drive an AV-21. Anyone can wear faction armour (for their faction). Anyone can carry around a nightsister energy lance. All they have to do is put in the work to obtain those things.

The VK issue is, depending on how you look at it, a bug or a design flaw. It should be fixed. Development time should be spent on ensuring that new CU equipment does not provide the same unintended advantage that VKs currently do. Diminishing people's choice by removing their ability to equip items is a poor solution which goes against the spirit of the game.

While I understand where you're coming from, I think that without significant limits the choices become meaningless. Why do we have armies of composite clones? Because with insufficient drawbacks everyone just chooses The Best Stuff.

As a Wookiee I sure can't wear faction armor. Nor could I wear that cool Nightsister bicep I looted so many months back. Nor the Tusken stuff I've looted. Nor 99% of the clothes I've looted. I made a choice to be a Wookiee, and because of it I accept certain restrictions. Sometimes it drives me nuts, but that's the way it goes.

I can use a pet, but only a weak one. The real ones are reserved for the CHs. If I was able to call a high level pet (even if I couldn't use it effectively) as a non-CH it would be doing them a disservice.

A combat class has one thing that makes it visually distinct: weapons. What weapon we carry stylistically represents who we are and what we care about. If anyone can equip the same weapon we lose that distinction.
