Thread: State of Pikemen.
Very well put Opeth, those are the issues I am concerned about. It makes no sense that our defense is so low, and to make up for our very very very high HAM costs, theydecided to allow us to miss with them 90% of the time.
Interesting..., how about an extention of this, it could fix the melee/ranged imbalance issues. "Grab" It would prevent the ranged (or fellow meleer) from getting away. basically if a push feature is possible, and it might be, then a grab is possible.
Ok, not the most fully thought out idea, but I like to throw em out there as I come up with em.

Am I the only one disappointed by this State of the Pikeman post? Have you people read none of the other class correspondents State of the Class posts? Many of them span 4 or 5 pages. This post was brief, and mostly just served to gripe about lack of attention. Everyone knows we get no attention. What's needed is details, specifics, enumerations, and suggestions for improvement.
The post earlier asking for comments about what's wrong with Pikemen contained expansive amounts of information about Pikemen problems and suggestions for improvement.
Much more could have been done here, and this may be our best opportunity ever to get our problems addressed before SOE declares that every class's issues have now been addressed, and the world is officially "balanced."

I would have to agree on this. I am grateful thatOpethRebel is taking the time to be a correspondent but this post had absolutely no proposals for solutions. OpethRebel recently started a thread for Pikemen to list their major issues. I had posted a solution for the outrageous to-hit modifier. This modifier NEEDS to be dynamic inline with all other fleshed out RPG's in existance. The to-hit needs to change as appropriate with the situation....is the target prone? lower modifier. Is the target a huge 2 ton bantha? Lower modifier. Is the target doing a special move such as aim or point blank? lower the modifier. There should also be a special move for targets that are trying to get away such as "trip" not the same as a knockdown with heavy damage but we should be able to easily trip targets on the move with an 8-foot polearm resulting in low damage (for balancing issues) and a way to stop targets who are trying to run away.
OpethRebel I sincerely thank you for taking the time to do this for us...but please update the state of profession with proposed solutions. I think the problems are pretty well defined. Perhaps you could start a thread for player feedback on proposed solutions to these problems.

If you guys think a meandering 5 page report will help you more than what I've written, I can easily do that for you. My rule as a writer is totry to bebe as clear and concise as possible. I will break that rule and rewrite the state of profession if you think it would do a better job than what I've already written. Believe me though, it takes more effort to write a short letter than it does a long one.
Our supervisor, Thunderheart, told us not to write an essay for this.
Please remember that this is not the final opportunity for getting our profession fixed. Quite the opposite, it has been made clear that this is the starting point. A place for us to set a reference point for how to approach fixing this profession. How are pikeman doing in SWG? What needs to be addressed? "We're gimpy, fix us," simply doesn't work for developers who are trying to help us,so the correspondents were asked to write SoP's to summarize the situation of each profession.
As I understood the task, this report wasn't to be about specifics and detailed solutions (we'll get to those as the developers start addressing the individual issues put forth here), but about the general issues we face.
LordBaryon, you have some good ideas about how to make accuracy and to-hit modifiers more interesting and dynamic. When we get to the point where our developer is addressing accuracy, I willdefinitely pass along your input.

Well when ever you fight a Mob they always seem to be right up on you at 0m away. How about a "Push Back" active move that when it lands our Mob gets pushed back to our optimal attcking range. And perhaps 50% of the time it would "stick" them there for 10sec or so.""

Thanks for the response Opeth. I now have something more to think about.
My main worry was that you weren't putting in the effort and attention our poor broken class needs. I have read the State of the Profession reports for several other professions, and they are the deatil filled 5 pagers you spoke of. Your response considerably eases my concerns.
What I didn't realize was what Thunderheart wanted & what the SOPs were intended to encompass. Sitting on this end of the screen, I clearly don't know all there is to know about the whole Class Correspondants program. I now have more to think on before adding further to this thread.
Regardless, thanks for all the hard work. We truly do appreciate it.
