I'm looking for a new character build. One that will be fun yet powerful in melee. I'm concerned bout PvP but i know that all melee classes will be sorta "gimped" against range and i can accept that. Just makes thekill that much sweeter.



Now i'm looking at all the melee classes and there's a few things that i know, and alot that i don't;



Fencer-moslty health attacks


pikeman-mostly action attacks


Swordsman-mostly min attack


TKA- can target any HAM



Now what i really want to know is weapons, damage, speed, HAM costs for specials, and over all special attack combos. Now i'm guessing that weapon speeds can all be around the same speed for these classes, or atleast i assume with a slice here and a master weapon smith there. What i would like to hear from you guys/gals is what makes your class special and fun and effective over the others. Or atleast what you think is the reason. I'm leaning toward TKA cuase of the abilities and just plain cool looking moves, but i don't want to assume the others aren't as good. Any thoughts?

Well bud, I am a pikeman (3/4/4/3) and have slowed down to start another char. as well...but I find myself login on to my pikeman because of the challenge it brings. I mean after the nerf and all it has really been a challenge to take on 3 at once...even if they are a deep blue, and a White can be a challenge by itself depending on the situtation...however if you know how to play a melee char. you can still take on 2 yellows and survive.


The pikeman's challenge to me is able to keep enough HAM up to use your specials. I wear no armor and sometimes I feel the pain from that...but more so if I wear the armor (kills stats to use specials). I also have medical abilities to heal which helps and a pet (minor) from time to time when I might feel I will need its help.


I use all 3 of my weapons...mainly our Novice weapon (Lance)...best for use with specials...low cost for specials. VL and LVA are costly on specials miss or hit and both have high miss probability. I have fun kill 3 imps for a destory mission at lv 22. It can become a pain sometimes but there are ways to kill pretty easy all ranged NPCs...for they most of the times will give up on you if you use the environment against them then they charge you and taht is when you own them. However it isn't always the case...now as far as PvP goes...well we get owned there....mostly everyone has high action and we do so little damage that range in a battle will get us...now one on one you have a small chance but still can get owned as well...however it is pretty fun because you learn how to deal with them and as you said...killing a ranged player with a nerf gimp melee then that is saying something and really shows skillz....however in the end it is fun; very fun.

Swordsman, no contest. Read the dev tracker, the devs themselves have admitted PVP is a mind centralized thing now. Yuo can't heal mind on the go, and it's needed for anything really annoying (riflemen use it for example). ALl of the melee classes are pretty ghimped simlpy becuase we couldn't hit a moving target if our lives dependent on it (funny how at point blank we can't hit someone with a stick, go figure) but, swordsman has the best chance right now.

be anything but TKA.... they are OVERPOWERED!!!!



9 out of 10 brawlers are TKA's... they are TO **edit** good... IF YOU WANA BE A PUSS, BE A TKA!



they can do everything... they are so good your a whimp if you become one! dont be a whimp.... be a real combat class... one that takes skill

well, looking at the swordsman, they just have a mind bleed (really nice) and a mind hit. Mainly. Wouldn't TKA be alittle better with their ability to hit any HAM, mind as well... and meditate?

Keanti is correct, there is a pretty big disparity between the TKA and the weapon melees.


Not only do TKA have superb damage, pool targetting(all), and utility(KD/dizzy in one move) they also get meditate to heal themselves fast, fix their own wounds, and get up from incap faster.


TKA also has substantially higher bonuses to toughness and defences, totally over 400 points in bonuses NOT including meditate/unarmed damage...two handed swords checks in at 303 points, fencer/pikeman are inbetween. The only thing TKA lacks are the bleeds, but really...is anyone you land kd/dizzy on going to be alive long enough to need a bleed? No. No VK cert makes it tougher to get to TKA? waaah use them anyway and you will probably equal your barefist damage but at 2s speed or so.


If you want to play melee on "easy" and by that understand that without other skills ranged players will still have an edge on you, then play TKA. Power, damage, utility, healing, defence...it's all there.

The Swordsman needs more bonuses, and more weapons, a good ones.


This, and a knockdown and it will be O.K.


TKA has got all a melee fighter needs, but there is something i cant understand, if anyone can answer me...How can a guy punching and kicking knockdown, and a guy with a battlehammer cant knockdown but can hit multiple objectives ?...

cool, another melee junkie like me.


I am going for master brawler, master TKA, and master pikeman.


I chose pikeman because the moves look cool and the dmg. The speed may be a little slower buy I have TKA for speed. The pikemen also have a KD, which probably will come in handy. Basically, it just seems more fun to me. A heavy swordsman sounds fun too, but some of those pikemen specials just look too cool.


plus with pikeman you get to have a title as "footsoldier" hahah


The other professions didn't appeal to me because fencers didn't have an option to do anything with their other hand like hold 2 swords or a shield, so I thought maybe a heavy swordsman would be cool to pursue. 2h swords were fun and they didn't look as feminine as fencers in their battlestance. 2h swords however got boring for me because their specials didnt look as good, and I didnt want to end up using a power hammer.


OK I admit, looks had a large impact on my decision, but hell thats what made it fun for me.

I don't see what the point of being a master tka, master brawler, and master pikeman.. you need a ranged weapon.. at least I think so.

I'm master tka, master pistoleer, have smuggler pistol 3 for a long range kd, and am goin for pikeman defense because it has the most variety in one line. (plus i get the food soldier title and both the pike KDS =p) when it comes to melee. the only thing i have troubles with is a tkm medic zabrak. whew thats a tough one. i know two of em. but anybody else is way too slow and inaccurate. ask the pikers. they miss plenty. me? I never miss at my level. unarmed has the highest accuracy. I dont know how accurate a master pikeman is, but i'm 0012 in pike (i had extra combat xp and wanted the accuracy boost to make leveling easier) and I still miss a lot. I never noticed me missing a lot working up the tk ranks. but i hit so fast a miss doesnt matter as much either. you wanna kite me? try. ill suppression fire you or low blow you. followed up by an unarmed kd or unarmed lunge. if, of course, im not waiting for the timer. oh, and I am not easy to kd already, and ill get 20 more kd defense from pike. i got 30 from pistoleer and 20 from tk. not too shabby.

I used to have master brawler but they gimped delay moves like warcry so now they like never work, and intimidate2 only seems to last longer and you dont need it to last so long to take down a pc. although intimidate2 is valuable pve and vs ch pets, ill take the extra kd and state defenses over that. Anyway, trandoshans have innate boosts to unarmed skills and the regeneration skill that boosts their min constitution of 700 to 875. or if you have yer con maxed at 800 the skill will boost it to 1000. but it only works once per hour. TRANDOSHANS 4 LIFE
