Thread: Best Tanking Template?

I've been trying to figure out what the best template for tanking is. As a Master Fencer I could get 10 Nightsisters on me no problem, but as a Master Pike I find 5 is a little hard.
I was thinking Master Pike, Master Brawler, TKA 0304, Fencer 3440, Novice Medic
Hows that? Please give suggestions too.

Yeah...Meditate does help a lot more than a couple +10 defenses I suppose

Master TK is a must for a tanking profession asyou get57% damage reduction from toughness. I'd add novice doc (for state heals) and as much of the defense trees in Fencer as possible to round it out.

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear enough. I meant the best template to Accompany Master Pikeman 
Anyway, the best tanking class would be either swords or fencer because of Dodge and Counterattack.

mmmm, well if you want to supplement MP, then the defense lines in Fencer and TK would be good.
And as for Swordsman CA and Fencer Dodge, I find that high level mobs (high level NS, Tuskens, and Krayt Dragons) hit through the CoB defenses very often.

Indeed, against a Nightsister Protector or Elder you will never block, dodge, or counterattack, and they will never miss you. I'm sure the same is true of other high-level mobs as well. I've tested this both with 30 melee defense and with 145 melee defense (capped +20 in mods), in both cases every single attack landed. The only defenses that matter in those situations are toughness (which you can't augment with other professions) and possibly state defenses.
Against stuff of a slightly lower level (Spellweavers, etc) the other defenses matter, but at the very high end they break down.

Well the template i'm currently working on revovles directly around master pikeman. Now this is a pure tank, not a self healer etc.
Master Pike, Master TKA, Master Brawler and 3-4-40 fencer. This template caps all your ranged and melee def, gives you 85 to dizzy 90 to KD etc etc. I think its going to work quite well. I'll let you know when i get there :-p.
As a pure tank, and having someone heal you, I think this will work perfectly. IE for big DWB raids, when you will have a doc healing you, or for krayts etc.

i would recommend master pikeman/master fencer/master brawler/4,3,0,0 tka and novice medic.
my template is the same exept i have swordsman not pikeman.i can solo krayts and nightsister elders.

You solo Elders with that template? What were you hitting her with....an NSEL? And I'd be very surprised if someone took an post-patch elder solo.

I have Swordsman for Elders since Pikemen can't do squat against one.
The reason I don't drop pike for another --- I dunno... I like Pikeman and keep faith that eventually one day Pikeman will be what we all want it to be.
I don't much care about the defense stacking so much as I do about variety. My ranged and melee are both over 110 and I heard it caps at 120 or so anyway. I know I could go fencer instead of pike and get my defenses up to 170(ish) but I like pike and I like swords.
My friends call me "fishtank" so it must be doing pretty well.
