Thread: Need help with buffs

I'm on my way to novice pikeman and was looking for some help regarding setting myself up.

I don't have any armour yet, but from what I can understand Composite is the way to go?

I'm trying to figure out what spice to use, that will best counteract the effects of the armor.

I have access to any Spice I need (my buddy who will be fighting with me is going swordsman and has lvl 4 spices), and I have crates of Bofa treats which can buff my health for 423 for 35 min (after eating 9 of them).

I'd like minimal downtime but a good enough buff so that I can take more of a beating.

Would a milder spice + good armour work better then weaker armour + bigger spice and more specials?

Any tales of experiences with spices would be great.

Thanks,

Mattius

ok, now here's the hard fact:if you plan to wear Comp armor you need to get Doc buffs in order to be viable

Oce you got the Doc buffs, be sure to snag along some Brandy(40ish min duration and 50ish fillings) and Vagnerian Canape(the food thingie with 10ish mins duration). Eat those and you should now be a mean lean tankin machine with the Doc buffs working.

Your "stomach" is suppose to decay with 100 fillings every 30 mins, but it's bugged so it s more like 100 fillingsevery 45 mins This means that even though you think the duration on your food is going to outlast the decayin your stomach, it doesn't.. even if the numbers says it s suppose to be that way, and bah! here I go complaining about Chef bugs, oh well... just be aware that your stomach is "bugged" and that the brandy is your God when on Doc buffs.

Use spice for unexpected hits, or tough fights that needs a boost.

For thearmor: Get it sliced for Encumbrance 30-45%

I'm not sure that the stomach is bugged. I can go with my bofas right now for a perma 423 health buff. When I hit the 5 min overlap I can increase that as well. When I'm fighting right now I always have it on, and never run outta time with it.

The thing is I don't want to be dependant on doctor buffs because I don't want to have to find one when it runs out (do they last longer then 1 hour?) It seems however they are the best way to go.

One other question: If Pixie will knock you down 1000 during down time, which lasts 4 min. Does that mean if you had less then 1000 health to begin with, it will KEEP dropping you, or do you just not get up until it wears off?

I'm hoping with the bofa health I can pass over 1000, plus have decent other stats, so I'll get up after I take my nap. I just don't know if it's worth the 4 minutes of waiting to go again.

it means you get an incapacitation which can be quite frustrating when fighting, and it renders the ForceOfWill skill useless.

As far as Doc buffs, Masters tend to last 3 1/2 hours and are priced at a max of 7K for all six stats on my server, and are constantly being offered outside starports. It helps to make friends with a doctor, I donate tons of harvested meat to one of 'em and never have to pay for a full set.

I understand not wanting to take the trouble, and honestly I prefered to hunt "naked," as it were, without buffs or armor until I got my first taste of both, and then I was hooked. Even if you're not friends with a Doc, you pay for buffs and head out to an advanced planet, guaranteed unless you're twiddling your thumbs the whole time, you'll make back enough money to cover the buffs and a full set of Advanced Ubese and have a chunk of change left over for the next round of buffs. And chances are, you'll be having even more fun since you'll actually be able to style consistently without having to constantly worry about your HAM bar. Get in a group and it'll be even better than that.

Actually, groups with mytown residentswere why I first decided to start taking buffs. I felt likeI was the one constantly getting incapped and slowing down the group, and as a melee fighter you really can't afford to stay out of the battle.

So, an unfortunate reality of the potency of buffs is that, unlike the devs originally promised, if you want to remain competitive both in PvP and within your PvE groups, in addition to fulfilling the tank role that may be expected of you, you're going to have to ante up for the buffs (and possibly, the spice, the food, and the advanced armor). Both the downshot and the upshot is that the rest of the game becomes nearly trivial.

If either you or your friend have the points pick up novice medic and grab a crate of stim b's. This will also help you out in those tight spots and should help reduce the depdence on spice. The chef mind buffs are key to keeping your mind up if you are in a long fight and need to keep healing but when I solo and see myself using more than 1-2 stims in a fight that usually means something is going wrong and I really shouldnt be fighting this mob. But the stanard usually helps, chef buffs, ubese armor, doctor buffs if you can find them and spices for when you enter that oh crap phase of the fight.

Well I figured it out.

Docotor buffs

Even by themselves it makes life MUCH easier.

Add on some armor and I'm plowing through banthas at lvl 3 like a hot knife through a fresh Krispy Kream donut...... <droool>

Like everyone says, the doc buffs can easily pay for themselves. I even got a crappy health buff, but was able to supliment it a bit with bofa.

Thanks for the help everyone. Next will be finding mobs to kill. On my way to novice now.

you need at least a 850+ in DR in gas or avian, and another HQ DR if you want to hit 3.5 hours duration

DR is the only stat that effects duration, so if you want high duration have high stats in your DR for both avian and gas

I removed the stats that really don't figure into the forumla. If you made the ABEC's, ACRDM's and ASDS what were the end results? What I've highlighted is basically where your problem may be. If a fellow doc if your guild is hitting 3.5 hrs and he's using the samefiberplast, the resource in questionhas to be the Lokian Wild Wheat. I'm also going to say that the DR on your gas & avian is a bit low.
