Yes, you can.

You just need to think and use your brain. Study states, mods and game mechanics - learn how and when to use states, how to macro defenses and states effectively, stack some defense, cap your speed, practice a LOT and get a 1k+ damage LVA and you'll be fine, reagardless of what anyone says.

Any profession can own any other - it's down to the player. Arguabley the3 top ranked pvpers on Sunrunner are:

A Swordsman

A Carbineer

A Pikeman

You spend long enough studying and working on your template and you can beat anyone...... yes, even if you're a Carbineer.

TKMs don't need a nerf at all

go over to the TK boards and read a bit from all the threads in there saying how they don't need nerfs, they can all say it better than i. however, just for starters, TKs don't get great defenses, they get some, but not much. Defensive Acuity is supposed to have a chance to either block, dodge or counterattack, but it's broken right now. TKs have 1 weapon which is kinetic dmg and only AP1. Most pvp armor now adays has 80% or more against kinetic armor. Also, you can't meditate while you're in battle, so a TKM can't meditate away the DoT a pikeman gave him unless the pikeman's already dead. So just stay not dead, kite him a little if need be ... run away, come back in for a few hits, run away etc. Of course, that's last ditch, any smart pvper will know how to take down a TK within a few seconds.

A Pikeman Same question as above, but pike instead of carbine.

1) - Yea, fair enough, he has capped speed and an uber hammer.

2) - Nope, no dots, just good tactics and a couple of amazing crafted weapons.

3) - As a matter of course only uses DOTs if the other side does.

And yes, what was said about TKMs is true, they have 1 damage dype, light AP, and if they want to wear a VK that is going to even dent you then they have pretty huge HAM costs. My personal opinion based on my experience is that when duelling, TKM is extremely handy to have, but in actual GCW pvp where there are groups involved featuring multiple skills and play styles TK becomes little more than a tank - especially without Master Brawler to compliment it. I don't deny that there are people who become extremely efficient as long term TKMs, but that is because, in support of my original post, they take the time to learn about it... TK's largest weakness is that is makes one extremely overconfident in my opinion. As soon as someone has huge KD defense or a doc has a good /healstate macro it's essentially worthless.

Just my two cents.

I hate people who say this prof can't win in PvP. Of course it can, you can make a winner out of any profession. Get the gear, get some defenses, get the strategies, and you can beat almost anyone.

The fact is, out of all the brawler profs, pikeman probably has the best chance of beating a TKM. As was stated, they don't have uber defenses, and they depend too much on keeping you KDed. If you hit some thakitillo, get some armor, and take the proper combo of mind food, you win.

DOT's make it easier, though

Wow, 1k+ LVA!

Where can I get one of those?

I just recently purchased one with 667 damage and had it sliced to 842, would love to get one for 1k+! Are they really rare?

I've killed many a nightsister, and have yet to see one...

I have a 902 damage LVA with +25 block on it, im capped on melee and ranged defense with +200 block.

Without Dots I cannot beat a TKM even if I use the best tactics possible, I also cannot beat a Swordsman, Rifleman, or Fencer without dots.

The am only good in PvP if I use my exceptional mind fire lance and all of my other extreme dots. The one thing I am good at damaging in PvP without dots is Jedi and jedi alone.

Since when do TKM's not have good defenses?

All else aside, +57 toughness (+62 w/master brawler) is great defense. But on top of that they have excellent melee and ranged defense and very good state defenses. Even without defensive acuity working, their defenses are considerable.

A TKM who knows what he's doing is extremely difficult to beat as a pikeman without using DoTs. For that matter, a smart member of any melee class is difficult to beat as a pikeman without using DoTs (even another pikeman will take awhile to drop). Melee mitigation + melee toughness + high kinetic resist armor + intimidation = very little damage output for a pikeman. As much as I wish it weren't true, DoTs are our primary strength in PvP.

Let the "I beat (unarmored/unbuffed/stupid/drunk/afk) TKMs without DoTs all the time!" chants begin.

ive seen a non-buffed TKAM on sunrunner kill a buffed dark jedi knight. he kept himself healed and spammed mind hit, so yea basically TKAM isnt the easiest thing in the universe to kill.
