Thread: Just how important is doc in your pikeman temp?

Ok, here's what I'm mulling over. My current temp is MPike/MBrawler/TKA0444/Sword0034/ForceMeleeSpeed 2 (plus novice artisan/scout to help my alt with stuff). I've determind I can work around dropping the 2 novice skills in favor of combat. So here's my question. Just how important do you find Doctor is in your template? I know most of you use it, but I've grown to love having the hard hits of sword, and the innate armor of TK. If I was to do it, I'm at a loss as to what to do...MPike/MTK or MPike/MSword. My alt is an armorsmith, so armor isn't a huge issue, I just like not having to wear it (plus Improved COB is great).
Thoughts?

EDIT: Oh, and advanced armor break is something I love....probably one of my favorites. That's why I can't decide.
EDIT: Ok, I did some more figuring. Maybe I could keep some of my favorite parts...

You'll be CL72 if that matters to you.

I like being able to solo well so doc is crucial.

Just look at my sig to see how important I think doc is.

I do just fine using only stims, even fighting the big things like GDK's & Krayts, but then I mainly do PvE. The thing with Doc/CM is, when have them in your template you not only have the ability to heal, but also the need to do so. By not having Doc/CM you will have better defenses and better offense so yes you won't be able to heal, but then you also won't need it as much. Both ways are very viable, it's just a matter of preference if you add a healing profession or not. There's a lot of misconception around because most people who have healing in their template can't imagine not having it and still being able to survive. It just takes a bit more skill and timing to keep your defenses up, your opponent debuffed and popping that stim at the exact right moment, instead of pressing your heal button every time you get low on health while continuing to spam critical strike or whichever attack your using.

For PvP it's an entirely different story, you can't survive PvP without healing.

I don't have doctor, but i have the healing line of Jedi, which i find does help. Mind you, I dont think i would have the skill points left to ever attempt to have Doc in my template now

Well, after thinking about it, I'm not much of a PvPer. I enjoy it from time to time, but I mostly PvE. I've decided on this...

MPike/MTKA/Sword0044/CombatProwness0004/NoviceScout

This allows me to keep the moves I want, increase my speed/accuracy/defense, and still harvest creature resources.
I'll be ok with stims and ruby bliel.

very true. i don't pvp, purely pve, but i've seen this firsthand in the last week. i only just reactivated my master pikechick so she's still in respec and i've been playing with different options. when i tried 4004 doc/m pike/some other melee i just wasn't as happy with it as i was with pure melee. even with the action buff, i ended up running out of action way more than when i had no medic (using the exact same weapons, pups, and armor), because i wasn't hitting as hard, and i was getting hit harder and having to heal and the battles just lasted longer.

I went back and forth over this issue myself....and I decided on the template in my sig.

Advanced healing was nice....but like someone said earlier your fights tend to last longer. With my current template (having the defense lines from both swords and fencer) my melee defense is 343 with ZERO food...and my ranged defense is like 283. After a couple pieces of food i can jack them up to 443 and 383....making me hard as hell to even hit.

Not to mention when i Adv. Armor Break someone and then smack them with my VL that hits for 710-1243 w/pup it really leaves a bad bruise.

Im all about the damage and the defense....if the fight gets me down to where im having to spam my stims and hope they activate it time....then the fights probably about to be over anyway.

Hi There,

I have master doc and master pike and I LOVE it. I wouldn't have it any other way now. Honestly, with the combat changes, I thought of changing. Now that I've played it more, I love it. I solo a lot, but have friends I group with. I used to really get bored grouping, but now it's really fun. I'm always active and we can seriously hunt nonstop now.

Just my two cents....

well for me its important b/c i am usaully the one takin the agro with everything i do regardless if it is pvp or pve so i end up always needing a heal and i would much rather have a ranged do a root and i run a litte to get a break then sit there and waste a lot of food and stims for some thing little. but in the end its just what you like and i like to have a little doc. i am tkm master pike and 4000 doc and i love it

I'll say it again:

Doc 4-0-0-0 is vital for any melee template, same as CM 4-0-0-0 for any ranged template, and Healer 4-0-0-0 for any Jedi template.

That is the way the Devs designed the game post-CU apparantly. You need the healing skills to compete in PvP and PvE, regardless of being melee, ranged, or Jedi.
So you got no choice ... pick the skills up or suck ... unless you have your personal Doc/CM/Healer who follows you around 24/7.

Hey

I have no doc, i just use ruby bileil and stim d's. I can solo but it just takes a little longer (about 1.5 times as long) than when i'm grouped. I take foods and drinks which help lots, so if you would rather lvl 80 and no doc then make friends with chef's and people who can make good stim d's or join a guild with them.

Unless you can tank like no tommorow, You're gonna lose a lot of fights. The deal is, that without doc you need to down ruby bliel and survive in 30 second intervals or you will lose a fight.
