Pikeman Archive

I recently wanted a change in my template (TKM/Pistoleer) and have decided, after taking a long look, that Pikeman sounded interesting and might be worth the try. My question to you all is what can I expect in PVP and PVE as far as effectiveness, what the best weapons are, what strategies I should try and employ in each. Basically, if each of you could write a primer for Pikeman, what would it incolude ofr each type of play. I PVP maybe 60% of the time, PVE the rest.

ok, pikes in PvP, dont want to say it, but it is true, DOT's are the way to go......mostly people use mind attacks, mind fire and poison, but these are expensive...... for PvE get a high damage pike 700+ ( 1k if you can) and get speed capped and attack the stuff...............GET SPEED CAPPED

Unless you're speed capped I don't think you'll enjoy pikeman in PVE...

as of right now im using Action fire 160's and action poison 250's......works pretty well.......except against doctors, but then i can do alot more damage 'cause they dont have all teh X-tra melle D and tuffenss,

I find I do rather well in PvP against ranged profs, I don't use DOT's and infact sold all my dot weapons. The problem in PvP for us lies in the Jedi and Melee stackers. We just do not have enough defense to stan dup to a TKM or Fencer, cas ein point. I dueled a TKM friend of mine this morning. I was using my 875 max damage pike, and speed capped. The most damage I did to her was 45, she also had no armor on, while she was doing almost 250 to me before my armor took some of the damage. It is just completel ynuts, how can a TKM punch me for more damage than I can swing a big stick at em. Just makes no sense.

Pikeman is good overall. Our defs are realy low, so I'd get pistoler 0040 or some TKM/Fencer. In the PvP world a High damage pike will do well against a ranged guy. As they said above, we can't do jack on a TKM orFencer. So thats when dots come in to play. Speed cap is nice to have in PvE, one on one a pikeman using a 500+ max Long Vibro Axe tends to be outdamaged by a Swordsman. If you put us four or so on one, pikeman will outdamage swordsman most of the time. Realy depends on the mob your fighting though. If yourgoing to PvP speed cap is a must, most dot lances have 4.0Speed and above. With the new poison buffs and if they have doc, nonspeed capped pikeman will get owned. You just can't stick dots as fast as they can heal. Pikeman, with the right weapons, shouldn't have to fear many melee classes. Rifleman are always a pain to bring down, but if you can get next to them we tend to win.

If your fighting a jedi, I tend not to use dots. (I do have a 1k Long Vibro Axe though) Your best bet will be to Intimidate first, then move to a AoE2 to stick dizzy and stun. Jedi KD defs and such are realy lacking, so I just move to a PolearmSweep2. If this doesn't work, try Hit3 or Lunge1. If your going to fight a melee, don't even try damage pikes. Your not going to do anything, move right to your dot lances. Go for the same AoE2, but lunge not KD. Most PvPers today have realy high KD defs, so its better to make them kneel. In the case the melee guy is doc, just use one poison lance. Don't try to switch weapons, with the new delay they can heal the dot while your switching are your dead. Ranged is our weak point. I try to stick dots, then put somthing in front of me so he can't hit me. Let the dots do there work. You could try this, but if he is close its better to use a AoE2 with KD or Lunge.

You don't need speed cap to love pike. you can get fast pikes. 2.5 150-600 lva

Pike can stand toe to toe with any other melee just fine in pvp, put on your 85/40+ dot them up, intim them and your done. A bit overpowered if you have good dots =/

Alot of good info above,no doubt. When I started playing the game earlier this year, i was immediately drawn to pike. I started with it and have kept it ever since. It is really cool to watch a master work a mob of 5 or 6 on him and other guys just standing back and taking one at a time. The best is fighting something huge and sweeping them all and watching them fall.

One strategy someone elluded to above is grabbing some ACTION DOT weapons, hit them with that and then target their ACTION pool with LegHits. That is the one pool pikes can target, and boy will it start dropping fast!

I think you will probably find it fun, and there is a bit of comradery between pikeman. Just can be a bit rough in the forumns - ha!
