all this talk about how we're not suppose to have the most defense and we were designed for offense is a joke... look at darth maul, he used the same style as pikeman and he took on 2jedi vs him(because he could defend himself much better with his big staff) and if you watch closely he never attacks offensively he's always walking backwards waitin for the attack or stationery waiting, he never goes offense or takes the first move, because he's using his defense to his advantage... we need defense not offense

and how does tka have the best defense of the melee class, they have nothin to protect themselves but their hands, and pikeman has a huge ass staff to defend themselves

Don't compare pikeman to Darth Maul.

Maul was a sith. He used a lightsaber, not a pike/lance/lva/etc. He had force powers which he used in fighting. We are not supposed to compare to any jedi.

Actually his style is remarkably simmilar to ours. As he holds his weapon in the center and most of his moves are based of a pole as he cant fight with one end like a sword. HE may be a sith and he may be using a lightsaber but his style is he same as a pikeman, cept with boosts from the force. I belive pikeman should be more defense than offense too. Beacuse of the fact we can attack with each side. Watch a real martial artist use a pike, He doesnt do huge swings but is actually really fast, with long range on top. Thats why its used. The only reason we are slow is because the devs think of us as a Two handed sword with 10x more size. In fact its probably closer to a two handed sword with two ends allowing for double hits.

I wouldn't mind being compared to Darth Maul at all. in fact he was the primary motivator to pick pikeman as my profession. Bear in mind he was the apprentice, and he took on 2 Jedi, killing the master. The fact that Obi Wan survived at all was because he had to make it to the next few movies. Maul probably had a bit of lag, right at the crucial moment, and ended up in the clone bin. Maybe in to pieces...as a Doctor, I think I can fix that.

Don't be so proud of this technological terror you've created. The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force.

A staff/polearm by far has the best defensive characteristics when it comes to melee weapons.

I think there may be a bit of a misconception in the devs mind (and perhaps ours) about the difference between a staff and a polearm. A staff is a fast, defensive weapon when used properly, but a polearm is anything but. I'm no expert, but I can't imagine the medieval Swiss swinging their halberds around like Darth Maul, the defensive aspects of which came from length and using them in formation to keep the enemy at a distance. I wouldn't think that a lone halbardier would be particularly defensive, as a swordsman could easily flank them to negate the range advantage.

From looking at our weapons, we seem to have a mix of the two, certainly a staff or even a vibro-lance looks like it should be using a fast defensive style, but the LVA looks a lot more like a heavier, slower halberd. Unfortunately the devs seem to have classified everything into the latter group, and defensive modifiers by weapon are non-existant anyway..

If you aren't using specials, you can almost hit constantly. I have 3.3 slice and can do pretty often hits with Berserk. This is all with LVA. Part of the problem is people often don't use all the moves. Each move has a time and a place. We really aren't that bad. But I do seem to miss a bit. Dodged a few times today. Got really excited.

The only reason Darth Maul's defense is good is because his offense is good. With the weapon constantly spinning, it is difficult to propperly cut throught he weapon, as well as difficult to change the velocity of the weapon for 'normal' defense.

However unarmed technique would get the highest defense normally, because since they are unarmed, survival is heavily emphasized.

Which is why I always said we should keep our ridicoulously high ham but increase our block and damage by tenfold.

I just watched"I"again (well3 times this week) and was wondering what skill you think he majored in. It has no real bearing on anything I was just curious what you all thought. Seems more pikeman than anything or some other martial art. Seems like a 2 ended blade allows for multiple defense/offense. Weren't some of the posts here about new weapons 2 ended blades?.. hmm..

ok cripes guys isn't it pretty obvious that he had polearm skills? i mean the dual bladed lightsaber is basically the bad@ss equivelant of a bo staff.
