Thread: Why are you a pikeman?
Hmm, t'was 18 months ago and i was holo-grinding. I kept getting skills and giving them up in the pursuit of Jedi yet i found myselflonging to keep some of them (i loved carbineer particularly). Then i decided to see if Pikeman would help me unlock , trouble was i loved it so much i ended up keeping it. The animations , the fact that i had a great excuse to slaughter Nightsisters , maybe the rarity of it a little. This was pretty much before the DoT explosion , when looted LVAs had -60 on all rangeshehe.
The one thing i loved was going to places like Dath and the Geo caves and people seeing you fight and saying stuff like "damn that looks cool" or "i didnt realise pikeman was good" (note im saying the skillswere good , not me lol).
Anyway ,the village came around and i decided to finally finish going for Jedi. It was great using my long learned skills to gain Jedi rather than grind Architect or something else i had no interest in. Around Chirstmas 2004 i finally finished my paddy trials and unlocked Jedi. The very first thing i did , even before swinging a saber , was level up my new alt as Master Pike/Doc.
Post CU i still love it. I miss the animations , the damage , the exceptional lances etc. etc. But there's just something about Pike i can't put my finger on. I know it's just a set of code in a stupid game , but damn i love it. Fin.
+Edit+ Oh yeah i forgot , dizzy/kd-ing then slaughtering whole squads of Stormies pretty much sold me on Pike too

Well I was Master Pistol and respeced to Master Pikeman to try out my Night Sisters Energy Lance that has an ADK on it! I aquired it in a Pre CU trade and would carry it when not in battle. I always stood by the NSEL as my favourite weapon in the game from the first day I saw one...... BECAUSE it is an Electrifying piece of art as well as a reasonable weapon... Post CU I could not equip it and thereby respeced just to use it in battle ....
Now granted it does not delve out the most dammage and now that they have stripped the Double DOTs from it well again it just ain't as good as it should be! Not sure what Einstein decided that an EASILY quested reward of a Kashyyk BladeStick... should be better or equal to an NSEL but hey Devs with these ideas are obviously remarkable salesmen in the boardroom......
Pike is cool ..... animations are cool..... you are semi-tough at times....... You stand out in the crowd with an NSEL couple that with RIS or the Rebel Battle armour and a couple robotic arms and you are a dancing sideshow to be reckoned with....lmao
You feel like you are doing something in battle rather than just pulling a trigger like any ' fat b ast ard ' can do ..... tee hee

We're kindred spirits. Back when pikemen were rare I seemed to always attract a few people who just enjoyed watching me fight, that was actually pretty cool.
The two things I miss most post-CU are the animations and that ability to cause every ST in a 10m radius to go into "fish-flop" mode with area2+sweep2.
I'm still holding out for them to give us new animations (or return the old ones).

Very well, then why do you remain a pikeman? Our role has shifted quite considerably from what it was in the early days.

lol, it was broken then, and it broken now,so nothing has changed...i just like it =)
I have a thing for gimped classes lol.
I have allways like the imperial guards from the movies i suppose, the class i just more fun.
I've continued messing with other professions on my alt, but I'm to a point where I'm seriously considering making her a pikeman, as well. In my opinion, no other combat profession even remotely combares.One things in the movies I always wanted to be was a Bounty Hunter, a Stormtrooper, or a Royal Imperial Guard, anyways..
Well I started out as a BH/pistoleer in PvP, it bored me fast. I soon wanted to make a FoTM of some useless profession..and be one the few. I thought, and chose swordsman and pikeman. I decided swordsman first to get gear for pikeman, since if you didn't have a few DoTs to throw around..you were kinda useless. Also, I had speed to do so. Off I went to Dantoonie after getting Master Doctor. I Master Swordsman, I had a blast tearing the FoTMs at the time apart. Soon enough I saw more swordsmen emerge into the field of PvP. I felt my job was done. I had the pikeman speed and enough stuff to get me started. I was already beaten to make pikeman the talk though. However when I got it, and started rolling with another pikeman. We were hard to take down..held a base off from 20 Rebels just standing inside AoEing. After Publish9 and the nerf to Fencer's scatter hit, pikeman was declared FoTM. I was one the first who were actually good with the profession in PvP, DoTs or no DoTs. I would dabble with Pikeman/Doctor 4040/TK 4003(soon Pike/Doc 4030/TK 4030...However, the defenses were not good enough for me. I decidded to master Fencer for fun and give a baton a run with pikeman for a week. I just couldn't stay stacker, and went back doctor, but with vengence...a template me and my friends designed. Master Pikeman/4030 Doc/4400 Fencer. It was hard to KD and state you, when you could heal yourself. It was very evil...it was declared the new FoTM pikeman template. Soon the DoT nerf came on -1 use DoTs, which made some pikemen go.
Finally the CU...I loved pikeman, and since the DoTers are mainly MBHs or riflemen now. I decided go M Doctor/Master Pikeman since some my VLs were good although my damage LVA pre-CU turned to junk. It was hard to adjust, and the cheap animation.(How do I miss my Area2, the attack and animation) I stayed with it, due to it still hit hard..and intimidate was to be honest, funny as hell. Soon the Kashyyk expansion came...and all the new quest....I logged in and a friend of mine told me about this pike he looted from N-K Necrosis. It was called the poisonspike. I was curious, and he asked me if I wanted it. I said, sure. It was nothing special until...I looked at it's range. We dueled, and it worked. Sure enough..it made me enlightened to stay pikeman for long time still and made me fill more crowd control like.(Even if I didn't have it, I would be a pikeman.)
Probally the longest standing pikeman as of now on Bria, and still going. Old and not planning on retiring down the blade.
*Update* Put down the blade for now, planning on getting a new toon to go Pikes with, due to the large scale battles it's sucide to go out there with a melee, even a Jedi. It's manly a shoot off with AoEs until the few melee, who are mostly Jedi who's alts are crafters charge in when the line breaks. I still love the profesion, and I'll be able to stack more once I get the toon.

im a pikeman because i was bored of swordsman, and i made the right choice in changing, loving pikeman
