Thread: inportan poll for Musicians
Kora, I hear your concern about accomplished musicians having an advantage in composition. Even with a user-friendly tool like Acid, a musical person will have some advantage. (With a not-so-friendly tool like Sonar, the advantage is even greater!) But one solution might be to treat player-created songs differently from normal schematics, so that rather than being bought and sold, they'd be uploaded into a SWG jukebox or some such, then downloaded freely. The jukebox could track how many times a particular song has been downloaded, just as websites do now. Word-of-mouth (or boards like this) would influence how often particular songs were downloaded. Trouble is, the jukebox would eventually become enormous -- another database headache for the devs. Maybe the least-popular songs would have to be deleted after a time? Dunno. A jukebox would also allow the devs to police for copyright violations -- a role I'm quite certain they don't want.
Speaking of copyright, I'm home now, so I'll start looking into those issues for us. Can't hurt to learn more.
Ok a little known fact is that Q-3po actualy fought for us to be able to make our own songs why they didnt remains a misturt it can be any number of reasons including just not enough time before launch
so lets assume that it is entirely possible to allow us to mkae our own songs and trade and sell them by one of the sugested methouds like jut letting us enter the notes or play little samples or cuts chained tograter or whatever how inportan would this be to you
you dont haev to be a music writer you can buy them or just get them from the many people who owuld post them so...
1) I would make this my top request to the DEV I would love to be able to play an infinate numeber of songs
2) defently would be in my top 3 for requests but not number 1
3) it would make the list of top 5 but just barely othet thingsd are more inportan
4) would not be on my list of top 5 but I would like it
5) nope have no intrest in this would be near or last on my list of top 25 issues
pleaselist your choice and only put a short short brief comment on why you chouse tht number
tht was it will be easy to tally
my example to follow
My vote is number ONE
I defently think that adding this will do the most good give us the most bang for the programing buck and last a long long time .... a bit of work now but an endless number of songs a new song economy and fun to listen to and play!
Hmm, lets see... I like the idea of having more songs, but if there is an infinite possibility for new songs to play, how can we make sure that all the musicians in our group has the same songs? What about levels? Is there anything to strive for?If you want my opinion, I think that just having more flourishes would be great. I also think that if each instrument had its own unique sound, that would be great. If you want some diversity then do this:
1. Give us a few more flourishes.
2. Give each instrument a unique sound. (I'm sorry but, the first 6 instruments offer absolutely no comfort to my bleeding ears anymore.)
3. Give usa larger varienty ofinstruments (I would love to see a few stringed instruments besides the mandolin available to non-master entertainers).
4. Give us 2 new songs per level instead of just 1.
5. Give us either lighting effects that actually do something to improve healing and experience OR cost next to no action points to use. (Using them doesn't make it worth my while to be a musician. Knowingwhat I know now,I wish I had spent those points in music knowledge instead.)
The very least you could do is for items 3, 4,and 5 to be implemented once we train in apprenice musician.
Anyway, back to the original question. I don't thinkexactlywhat you saidwould even make my top 100 list. It would make the top of the list if it was something like what I stated above.
One minor point, Faydra. I think it was Holocron, not Q3P0, who said in beta that we had "no idea how hard" he fought for some form of player-made songs.
new songs will become important if it isn't already and this is a good way to implement new songs.
Put me down for 3
or maybe 4...
I think being able to make your own music -- and to choose and sequence your own flourish animations, as well... what's up with those mandiviol animations?! -- would add a remarkable aspect to being a Musician, and actually make it MEAN something, but there is a lot to do with the Musician profession already without adding completely new in-game widgets ![]()
I really liked the stuff in astriom's post, as well as lots of other ideas i've seen posted... I'll summerizewhat I rememberhere (including astriom's stuff)
- More flourishes and flourish animations
- Unique sound or pitch for each instrument
- Customizable instruments (changing the color when crafting it, etc)
- More instruments... actually, I think just one more stringed instrument exclusively for Master Musicians would make everyone happy

- Larger song variety (although crafting your own songs would solve this! lol)
- Lighting effect that actually DO something
- a real spotlight! woohooo! That would rule! Give one to the dancers too
- quests for rare songs or instruments
- race-specific and planet-specific songs and instruments
- newbie participation in an advanced group- newbies should be able to play easy percussion instruments, like tambourines and maracas, to accompany songs they're not high enough to play yet, and get limited xp
- musician-related quests that are tied to the GCW
But to me, this is all candy.. the issues I'd really like solved are:
- some kind of group tip
- a visible timer for gig missions
- the naga-omni target issue
- statistics on the quality of an instrument in the Examine window (assuming, as someone posted elsewhere, that quality DOES make a difference!)
Bleh, sorry if I kinda hijacked your thread, Faydra... it's just that the Musician prof has so much potential! Hehe, i guess all the profs in SWG do... This game's gonna be great once the beta's over ![]()
-Tubalarrda, Theed Cantina, Naritus
I vote 1...I have been a strong supporter of player written songs since I saw the name composer on a musician and he told me he couldn't make his own songs. I hope it gets put in the game some time down the road as I think it would add so much depth to SWG.
I agree let us make our own songs then trade them and get xp for both
Toss me down for #2.
A great idea, but there's a lot of creative possibility already within the current system to play around with.
