Thread: The Mandovial: A Musician's... violin?

I know this has been kicked around a little bit, but I thought I'd really focus on it.

To me, the Mandovial is supposed to be a guitar (heck, you even play it like one). However, in most of the songs it's a violin. Don't get me wrong, for some songs a violin is much better than a guitar, such as Waltz, Ceremonial, Ballad, and Folk. However, for the other songs I'm sure I'm not alone when I say I'd much rather be hearing an acoustic or electric guitar sound than a violin or "electric fiddle."

Currently, the only song where it really sounds like a guitar is StarWars1 and the upcoming new song.

So any dev reading this, I implore you: for the future songs, seriously consider choosing guitar over violin. By all means, if it sounds better as a violin don't change it, but if you had a choice, pick guitar.

I know there are much bigger problems to be focusing on, but with new Musician content on the horizon, just have this idea floating in your head when thinking up new songs.

Well it should really sound like a lute. Be cause that is what it looks like We can not just look ate modern music and apply that to the game, remember this is starwars and not earth 2004".
There are also roomers of new string instrument the... you can properly find the post a bit further down the board.

I really think they ought to have just given us both instruments - instead of the 50 million wind ones

That'd be the Xantha. It's not a pure string instrument--it's a hybrid between a flute and a guitar.

I'm also rooting for more "guitar" tunes.

Hey new to the profession and this board. Have to start giveing input somewhere....

How bout a String Instrment of any kind that you dont have to be a master entertainer to use? What do we have? A few fluit like things that sound the same, a Omni Box a Bandfill that both sound like drums to me, and the big panio like thing that i cant remember how to spell. Defently need some string instrments in general for the Musician. Bango, Guitar, and a Violin would be nice as well as others. O and how bout a harmonica(sp?) for playing while waiting at the shuttleport/starport? SryI hope that Im not getting outahand for my first time here. O and dont worry I am not a holo grinder or a badge grinder. My wife (a master dancer) and Ihaveour cantina set up andweare here to stay.

Honestly what I hope for is not more guitar songs but better more accurate visuals for mandovial playing.... The current animations look decent for playing SW1 but look downright retarded when playing waltz for instance. I guess that really goes for all the songs and instruments really... At the very least they could finally fix our hands on the instrument so we actually hold the mandovial correctly (both hands say on the front of the instrument so we actually appear to strum it.)

The sounds are fine to me it's the visuals that need improvement.

I definitely second that! I would be satisfied if we just had the "no flourish" animation no mater what flourish we preformed, a musician should be heard, not seen. (we have our vision effect if we need to grape attention)

I have to disagree with you there. Musicians in bands do move and "ham it up" when they are playing. I would be very bored if I just stood there and played. LOL IRLI sang in a band for a while. My first time on stage I was so scared the drummer threw his drum stick at me to get me to move!

Not in every style of music they don't. A rock band yeah.. You don't see many orchestra musicians jumping up and throwing their violin in the air after a wicked flourish.

The problem is I sit at my Nalargon playing a slow waltz and decide to impress the audience by jumping up on the keyboard and playing with my feet.... Doesn't quite help the immersion eh?

Yeah, different musician flourishes would be nice, but they'd take a while to implement, seeing as how you'd need to drag the old motion capture suit out. I can give you TH's response right now:

TH: This is a great idea, but not something we'll be working on soon. That's not to say it won't be in at a later date.

But if it really bothers you, disable sound in the Options window. You don't do the flourish emotes when your sound is turned off

I agree. I'de like to get a screenshot that's not marred by the fact that my hand is inside the Mandoviol. I would also like to see more instances of the Mandoviol sounding like a lute or guitar. The Nalargon is a little heavy on the steel drums, as well. More piano sounds would be nice.
