Thread: My status as a Master Musician.
For those of you that do not know me, I was one of the first Master Entertainers and Master Musicians on Bloodfin.
I have since given up Master Entertainer but have retained Master Musician for now.....
I grew so tired of not really my profession but the ways of the cantinas, that I had to leave Bloodfin and go to Chilastra and try a new profession to take a break.
I am back on Bloodfin now and sad to see the cantina situation is worse.
My lovely Theed Cantina is no better than a whorehouse at this point. The dancers both male and female wear no clothes and even some of the musicians. Almost the entire cantina has AFK over its head and stupid little bots are running around begging for tips.
This is the same cantina that I was making 10k a day in without ever asking for a tip and now people have beg.
The entertainer professions are in sorry shape and its not SOE that is doing it, its the entertainers. STOP BEGGING, put your clothes on and talk to the people that come in and not go AFK. Go out on a hunt and when they set up camp heal the mind wounds they will love you for it.
I no longer play music but I still wear my title because I worked my butt off for it. I no longer train when people ask but I tell them to find another profession (in case you are wondering all of my training I paid for).
I am now going for Smuggler and when I reach Master I will start to relinquish my musician skills to pick up pistoleer. That is unless something drastic changes and with some of the attitudes I have run into at the cantina I doubt it will.
You have made yourselves the joke of the game not SOE.
I am sure the flaming for this post will be great but before you try to defend againest everything I say take a step back and be that non-entertainer for a while and see how disgusting the cantinas look now not even a few months after launch. Try to remember how those first weeks the cantina was fun and everyone talked and wore clothing and didnt beg for everything.
Well that is all until I have to reply to some flame
Im exactly in the same boat as you, I worked my butt off for Master Musician. Two months after I got it finally, I was pretty much tired of all the AFK dancers and players in the Cantinas. At one point, I signed on to meet a new musician, just barely struggling to get past Musicianship 2. Once he did, whenever I visited that cantina (in the morning and at night), he would be in there, AFK. That was every single day for a week and wouldn't you know it, he is now a master musician after 1.5 weeks AFK'ing in the cantina. That just made my stomach feel sick to the bone and I pretty much NO longer play my instroments. I have picked up other things to keep me occuipped, (pistoleer, artison). What a waste. And I feel the most anger towards all of the AFk musicians and dancers in the cantina, You ruined the professions. Im most likely to start doing the same things as this thread poster.

Hi Claire
I agree we have an issue here.
From my perspective most of the afk I see I do not see as Masters.
I do not see them at gigs events and such.
I'm willing to bet a good portion of them are from other classes thinking what we do is easy and easy money.
After a week or 2 most disappear.
I am an advocate of once the afk flag goes up no exp. And no ability to shut down AFK.
But, and here's where we disagree.
Giving up is not my solution.
These imitators of our profession just make the true ones shine.
We are the ones that always thank the cantina healers for heals, always thank the players for tips.
We work on our flourishes, we take requests, we interact and kid around with our clientele.
I refuse to be pushed out of our cantinas because of this.
My perspective?
An example of a weekday session for me is:
1.) Log on run a few missions see the sites.
2.) Check my sales on Bazarre resources an such. Look for deals on aluminum and steel and the finest soft woods for my instruments.
3.) Get out of my hunting gear and don my entertainer garb.
4.) Go into whatever cantina I'm close to and get to know the people there. People are not stupid they see who is talkin and who is not. We chat about classes hunting and whatever. All done while the tool in the corner is bobbing away on his/her horn saying doing and offering nothing.
Whats really rewarding is when you walk into a dusty cantina thats quiet and dull and bring Music and lights and good conversation and all of a sudden more join and you rok the joint.
Does it always happen? nope
But I guarantee it does sometimes, theres plenty of us who want the same stuff.
I'll be honest hearing Theed cantina is doing this to you is a drag. Theed cantina on my server is my home and isnt that bad. Theed cantina is the entertainer capitol.
You gotta fight to take it back!!!!
Get a few Masters you know and showem how its done. Sooner or later if this isnt fixed we are gonna have some tuff choices to make.
Do we train afk performers?
Do we keep them grouped?
Oh and how people dress in game...I'm a liberal here. None of my buisness.
Lets face it dancers clean up money wise in those outfits.
But yanno what its common now. What's not common is musicians who arent afk. I try to build on that.
Don't give up take it back!!
I agree those droids with "Tip me please" are so lame![]()
I wonder...
If a Band is trying to play at a cantina and theres an abuse of Macro's begging and advertising can a csr fix this?
Or if one player is spamming a cantina with stuff to where it's effecting the players does that fall to a csr?
Either way I hear ya, but dont give up!!!!!
Your post implies that I am adding to it.
In what way am I adding to it.
I honestly do not think you can fix it, unless you fix human nature and that is not going to change. I simply believe that the profession was not thought out completely.
My post was to publicly answer some questions that people have about why I have shunned the musician community on bloodfin, and I felt that it should be seen by all musicians.
I have not tried to add to the complains and I do not seek a fix because I am done with the profession, this thread is my last breath if you will as a musician. I will continue to wear the title because I have earned it and will wear it until I need the skill points for something else.
Also the use of the smilies in that instance was patronizing to say the least.

I think she just meant to imply that you're preaching to the choir.

I don't think it has to do with human nature. I never saw entertainers AFK in beta and there were some humans playing
The profession is fine, some players are abusing it. In order to stop that, we have to tell them what we think. If you see someone AFK, write him/her an email and tell the player you don't like the behaviour and you think it's a shame. Up to now, noAFK bot stayed long in my favorite cantina. One day. Second day, I'll write an email, they'll vanished. Probably just to another cantina where they think it's ok. But if you let them believeit's ok, then it's part your problem. Take action. Don't be the victim. Tell them that they suck. Being AFK doesn't mean someone is out of your reach.
Begging isthe result of being poor. Being poor is the result of being uninformed of how he game works. For 15 skillpoints and 100cr you can get artisan and can set up harvesters. They will yield more than you can possibly spend on entertaining gear. Well, it's not nice that we need another profession to make money. But looking at the 250 skillpoints, even if you take ME/MM/MD, there are still skillpoints left. You have to take another profession. And any other profession seems fine.
Mon_Calamari, do you have any suggestions on how the devs might adjust the profession to encourage people to be at their keyboards? For example, some have suggested that you should have to click a popup in order to accept a tip. I'm going to start a separate thread inviting suggestions, so if you have one, please post it there.
Speaking for myself, I very much enjoy being a Musician. But I play in an organized band, at private gigs and in rehearsals, and only occasionally in public cantinas. Even so, I get audiences who listen to me and tip well, and at gigs and rehearsals my bandmates are most certainly not AFK. I think plenty of other Musicians are still having fun too. What's more, there are improvements coming to our profession, at least eventually -- not just more songs and sounds (as Holo posted a while ago), but in all likelihood others as well. With that in mind, I hope you reconsider your policy of not training people who ask for training. Your fellow Musicians need your help!
The popular cantinas arebreeding grounds for grinding out XP. There's going to be AFKs, there's going to be people whoring out for tips.
The good thing is Master Musicians should enjoy their class and either help the new musicians out OR be out touring solo or with a band and playing and advertising they are playing on their Server boards or when they come to town. When I'm not playing a gig, I'm out helping musicians and dancers in the Cantina or playing in some remote place like Endor or Wayfar where the tips can be nice.
You have to love what you do.
Ok,.gripe done. I still won't be discouraged,..haven't seen him since then as a matter of fact. And you know what,..some of the people I see there regularly are nice enough to tip me even though I know full well they listened to the higher level afk musician instead of me.
It's everyones responsibility to make the game pleasurable,.not just devs. I think that separates the Players from the Gamers. Thank you players.
Peace
Ahazi has the SAME problem: Naked peeps, Tip droids, NO tips making the droids apear, AFK flags..../sigh
I think this is THE best Proffesion in the game. When i started this game I was on Bloodfin. I thought my character was messed up, so i made an Identical char on AHAZI. I go in Bestine Cantina. I watch the Entertainers. I was amazed. IT LOOKED SO FUN! I have stuck with it. And i love every minute of it. I espically now having Bar Fights with my friend Ossklo
This proffesion should be loved, not beggars, strippers and tip droids /sigh
