1) Sometime around Publish 10, or 10.1 or 10.2. Whenever they put the Entertainer Quests in the game, the reward will be new songs/dances. No idea how many, though.

2) Never, most likely. The way the current system exists, it'd take an overhaul of the entertainer mechanics to allow it. At least, so the Devs have said. Personally, I think what we NEED DESPERATELY is an overhaul of the entertainer mechanics, so I still fail to see why this isn't being developed yet. Self buffs just ain't gonna happen, most likely.

The devs have left the door slightly open to self-buffs, but it certainly won't happen this year, if ever. But yes, new songs are coming in the next Publish!

Very sad, NewJedi I was hoping for proper attention to entertainer professions

The sad thing is..

Most of us that do buffs...ARE MASTERS! Didnt they say something stupid like we gain xp for doing self buffs? What good is XP at master??? Also, you cant buff OVER a music/dancer buff, so who cares if someone gets a whoooping 50xp every 2 hours or 1.5 hours or however long their buff lasts from giving themselves a self buff? I love being a musician mind you, but not being able to ever buff ourselves suck. It really does. (sorry for this disheartning post, I just feel really jipped by not ever being able to buff ourselves, ive been an entertainer since beta, and it urks me that we keep getting shafts left and right, but ill continue to be a musician, in hopes somehow, someday, some kind dev will look down upon us and say, here, you guys are hard workers, you desurve this....*add item here*)

Yep, that was the main reason they gave: buffing would result in double XP.

Earlier, privately, they'd told me that self-buffing would also require a lot of re-coding, since the Musician buff is triggered by /stoplisten, and we don't /listen to ourselves to begin with. That explanation sounds more plausible to me: it wouldn't be impossible to do, but it would take a lot of time and resources.

At least a couple new songs are on the way.

Yah, Ill give yah that atleast. We are getting new songs. And there really isnt anything WRONG with our profession...just wish we could get a little more attention is all. No biggie.

so look on the brightside I guess...NEW SONGS...(too bad we couldnt be jedi playing musicians with uber mind buffing powers of cool affects...now that would be swell. give us long time musicians something new to play with.)

I disagree that there's nothing wrong with the profession when I have no way to verify that I'm mind enhancing a patron until the process is theoretically finished, and the patron can lie to me and say that it's not kicked in even if it has.

I also think that the ability to heal/enhance both musicially and via dance at the same time being broken when they fixed the 30 second stop/start exploit is a big problem.

Then there's the problem with patrons not being able to find us via the our Registration skill because player cantinas and theaters are defaulted to staffed on server reset.

And yes, not being able to buff ourselves is wrong. I knew that was the reason! I said so right after I tried buffing myself when the whole system was instituted. What the hell was so bad about just saying, "When we designed performing in alpha we never foresaw this eventuality. At this time, we will not re-code everything to do with music and dance to rectify this issue."

The thing most wrong with the whole situation, though, is that I don't think there's a developer on staff who has a clue what to do with this nifty set of professions they came up with. That is what's wrong.

And I'll believe the new songs when I hear them. I'll have to remember to turn my Player Music setting back on for it.

You know, I saw this line and inspiration struck...

This will only make sense to those that played EQ, but remember when a Bard starts playing a song that benefits players in a radius? Every 5-10 seconds, there's a glowie effect that goes off. It starts at their feet and lights them up.

Why can't this be used so that we know that they're actually getting the benefit of our buff while we're giving it?

I've suggested many times we get a little symbol over our patron's head while we're buffing them, like docs get with heals. What would be so hard with that? Also, a simple, simple, simple system message of "you enhance soandso's Focus and Willpower by 700" would aid me in knowing if my ELITE PROFESSION buffs actually FREAKIN worked.

As Tarot said, it's painfully simple for someone to lie to a Musician and say they didn't get a buff. Dancers can see the mind bar jump. Docs get system messages. Musicians get the shaft. Inexcusable.

I've said it before and I'll say it again -

Musician IS broken. There is no reason why an Elite profession who can buff 2 stats should have to rely helplessly and blindly on the honesty of their customers to know if they've buffed someone or not. The buffing system for Musician, as far as I'm concerned, is broken and will continue to be broken until they actually give us some means of knowing we buffed someone. It's ridiculous that we have no idea whether we buffed someone or not, and we rely on the other person being honest.

Musicians buffs are the easiest thing to steal. That's a broken mechanic and should NOT be allowed to continue. Pathetic that no one has attempted to resolve that in any way. There needs to be more emphasis on this - when word of this spreads more, it's going to be a problem folks. We need to get that resolved ASAP.

Wait until everyone claims they don't get Musician buffs and won't pay.

Then you /report it, yet you can't prove you buffed any of them. SEE HOW WE GET THE SHAFT?

Hmm, a simple (but admittedly not very satisfactory) solution to that dilemma would be: stop buffing people.

That's what I have done - I don't buff strangers anymore, and I don't buff for money. The only ones who get my buffs are thosefor whom I would do it for free anyway, friends and guildmates. But then, I don't rely on music for my income, so that's easy for me to say...

I have this pretty dream of a galaxy without buffbots, a galaxy in which theentertainers are on strike, and Jedi can't find mindbuffs. I bet buffs would get fixed pretty quickly in that ideal world! That, or NPC buffbots would get implemented...

Good point, however in the complex tangled world of entertaining we currently live in, this causes yet MORE people to not find buffs when they immediately want one, and it's at that moment another buffbot is born.

Musician buffs are broken, simply because we can't see if we buff someone or not. That'd be like a Doc using a Stim B and asking "Did I heal you? Hmm, take off your armor and we'll try again." But, I guess I'll deal with the crafty thieves who snatch my Master skills' benefits from me at any given chance. When it comes down to it, can I prove I buffed them? No. And that's the problem.

As a sidenote to all this buffbot business, I find it kind of funny that I initially had a Musician, and my alt is a TKM Combat player. I sort of went the other direction of the buffbots' masters. I've always considered my Musician my main, and my TKM as my alt. Go figure.
