Thread: Where has the joy of entertaining gone?
The weirdest thing i've ever heard is "Plz tip me, i'm an entertainer so i live on tips. I can't get any credits by myself"
By the way, they need to add "plz" to the badword filter list or automatically convert it to "please", it's driving me nuts...
Anyhow, back to the subject.
Improvements i'd like to see is to inform people on how to Entertain, the old woman in Mos Eisley, Trehla (?) should talk about running Entertainer Missions that should also be more profitable for the entertainers. Atleast 5k for entertaining for 15 minutes.
And also, make the entertainer quests more interesting by adding public player-city cantinas to the lists and an even higher payout if you visit another planet.
Go on tours through out the galaxy, once you're finished with one gig, you're getting a new waypoint to another one with a certain extra % tip ammount? Bringing a band of 4 musicians with you will pay you a lot more aswell.
Maybe even a + on xp for registering with location so players can find out where there is an entertainer positioned.
I really think this would improve entertainer distribution in the galaxies, and I really miss entertainers for what thay could be but aren't...
There still is fun, the combat players still have a reason to visit the cantina, in time I feel that will be gone and there will be entertainers entertaining entertainers. That is when I will use that respec and leave the entertainment profession to the "REAL" entertainers and their props!
He has never asked for tips when performing (as it is of course just rude). He has strived to educate others in the correct etiquette for being an entertainer (i.e. entertain, engage the audience and above all do not spam).
The "fun" of being an entertainer is harder to find now - cantinas in player cities which I have visited on FarStar are empty. The NPC city cantinas are sadly still home to the AFK bots (and I really do not know why they still AFK grind these days now that buffs have gone).
The best experience I get now from being an entertainer is the Mos Eisley cantina. I can run a live group there, help the new players to the profession and of course train them all for free (plus free instruments when they need them). This gives them a boost as they see the clear difference between a vibrant live group and the dull hell that is an AFK group.
What about money I hear you ask?
Well I've never made a living from playing music or dancing (and I dance rarely as I prefer music). I make all my money from my Image Design services (topped up when needed by credits from a combat orientated alternate character on a second account).
So for me there is joy still in the game for entertainers. It is the joy of being live in a cantina and being there for the other entertainers who also seek a live group. It is the joy of being asked by a player to hear something other than starwars1 and then listen to their applause as you go through the entire collection of tunes. It is the joy of using my ID skills to try and make each character a bit more unique (why they all want to look the same is beyond me).
Don't give up on what I think is (and always has been) the best social professions in the game. Yes we are undervalued in terms of content. Yes it is damn hard for new players to survive on the pure entertainer path. Players only think little of entertainers because of the AFK bots. If you show them that you are not an AFK bot then you are respected for the dedication and the service.
I was born and entertainer and I'll die an entertainer (hopefully still a good one).

I still have a blast entertaining, last night I loged into bria made my rounds and was the normal AFKness, I decided to play in the streets of Mos Eisley. After a few minutes I had 10+ people outside the cantina, now and then one would run inside heal his battle fatigue and rush back out and cheer. I played for about 2-3 hours made a lot of friends CL1-80, ended up getting all sorts of faction points, tips, lots of laughs.

You know, there's a good point in there... while I can't say I really like the removal of BF (interdependency = good, it's the one area in which SWG stood out above all others at release), there is one positive side to it:
Once ent heal xp is gone, we are no longer tied to the cantinas. Even those of us who are still training don't need to go there anymore, as from a game mechanic point of view, its main reason of being was to serve as a place to heal mind wounds and BF.
You say that all the new players won't even be taught to frequent the cantinas anymore? True, but then just go to where the new players are. You can have that 8-person group just as well outside Mos Eisley starport now instead of inside the cantina, and your xp progression won't suffer from it. We can now be seen as entertainers again if we only put in the effort.
Which ties in to my reply to the original post: my fun of entertaining comes from being an entertainer. I hardly ever play in cantinas anymore, but I do still perform regularly with my band Nebula on Chimaera. And this has been what made entertaining fun for over a year now: you go on stage (wherever that "stage" may be, and it could be anywhere) and give them a show they will enjoy and remember. People are still willing to be entertained, you just have to work at it.
myself I am usualy only grouped with one of my droids, outdoors I can switch droids easy and go on to another set of songs. I have not gained any XP for a long time (caped) so I am not looking for XP. What I am looking for is a Role to play in the game.
I love playing at the cantinas in towns. or in the streets. I also will go and play in player towns when asked to help clear battle fatigue as they war. (not asked this too much now). But I have a role to play helping them.
I have never been tied to a cantina, I never stayed at one cantina too long, I moved from town to town or camp to camp. That to me is fun, then again, I would also switch servers oftenand do the same.
Removing my rolefrom the main population of the game will all but destroy the fun I have and have had.
Oh well changes are needed and I guess I am in the minority when Iwish to be of some use to the combat professions.
Most of you guys are doing a good job, i just find it kind of funny how nobody ever admits to have used macros and everyone hates the fake AFK-people.

I do not believe you are in the minority Tammy. I just think the spoiled, immature minority has too much time to be vocal. They want the end game now with no effort, no delay. Just look at the stupid, annoying, pop up we are having to put up with because some people just couldn't seem to figure out their new template in 3 weeks and wanted a free, use when ever I want, get out of jail free option. Now some really powerful weapons drop as loot on Kashyyyk. I fully expect to see blue frogs pretty soon, the devs have completely lost sight of the fact that the game is supposed to require some commitment. Instead its becoming a first person shooter in cheat mode.
I did respec away from entertaining on Corbantis, how the entertainer profession is headed it is not a profession, it is becoming a social chat room with no end reward. I do not have alt accounts to support a dancer/musician so I do need to have means to make a steady income.
I watched my sister master tailor and WOW, herfirst full week in businessshe made almosttwo million. haha
I wonder if I can sell props for a living? ![]()
Confusing. I feel bad for the people who really did enjoy entertaining, but I wonder if this clinging to an ideal that's no longer practical is healthy. I guess if you're still having fun then you're getting your money's worth, but truly I have nothing but pity for the old ents, and shameless curiosity for the ones who remain.
Are you massochists? Why bother?
I really do mean no offense, but having been a master musician / dancer / id / ent, and seeing the state of it now, I just don't get why people still play these profs. Certainly nobody here owes me any justification for why they do a thing, in game or out, but I'm very curious.
The few remaining ents all seem very obsessive about entertaining, even holding a nearly religious dogma about the right and wrong way to do so. What's the point, exactly?
Again this doesn't sound as respectful as I had hoped, but hopefully some of you will look passed my crude lack of tact and at least attempt an honest answer. It's my deficiency not seeing things your way, not yours for seeing them the way you do.
