Why should you not post right now ? Now IS the time to post. They don't listen to our calm well thought out ideas, suggestions, cries for help. So what if you get a forum ban for a few days you can still read you just can't post with that name during it...

Here'smy response that I put in the Dancer forum.

OK, folks.

It comes down to this.

Customer service needs to be consistent above all else in their policies. They have other policies regarding harassment and griefing. Given the current system within the game to make us robots, people are playing as the game allows them. By preventing them from doing what the game allows, we'll be called griefers and punished.

I recommend we just ignore the stupid buffbots. Leave them alone, let them rot in their own personal tedium. Let them be.

Don't ever talk to them, respond to them, address them in Spatial, nothing. Do not acknowledge their existence. If they talk to you, /addignore. If they grief YOU, report them. If they tip you, tip it back.

They are NOTHING.

Repeat after me - they are NOTHING. They aren't worth getting upset over, they aren't worth the frustration, they aren't worth a piece of bantha poodoo. You dig?

As far as I'm concerned, a buffbot is the rock that gets in the way when I'm cruising in my Flash Speeder. They're an annoyance, best avoided, and a total pain in the rear sometimes.

Act like they don't exist.

Let's start ATK cantinas. Places where customers who prefer ATK Entertainers know they can go. Know which cantina never gets used, but is really really cool? The Fallen Star. At least on Starsider, it's totally empty usually. And there's a pilot trainer there. Let's start proclaiming certain NPC cantinas "ATK Zones" and notify our respective servers that anyone who would like to get their entertainment from LIVE players all come to The Fallen Star in Eisley. If an AFK'er or buffbot shows up, no one cares, since our clientele won't listen to them or watch them.

It could be any cantina, really. Just get the wordout, and people will follow.

I also think that what we need now is consistency. Perhaps we need to create an ATK schedule - keep it regular, keep it a nightly thing, and consistently be in the same cantinas repeatedly. People need to know where we are, if they want to visit us.

This policy should energize us, not discourage us. I feel like we need to really represent what true Entertainers are, now. Forget the AFK'ers. We now much wait for the Dev team to deal with them - and we need to press on them how badly we need that dealt with. But, maybe we should work on being somewhere more reliable? Like a consistent tour that someone's droid can bark for or something. If we keep it consistent, people will think "I need an ATK Entertainer, 5-7pm in Bestine. It's 7:30, so they must be in Tyrena already - until 9."

Guys, we're the ones actually playing this game. Let's rise above this junk (though expressing our frustration with the situation is more than understandable at this point). We need to show people what we're really made of.

All right, I'm done.

As a sidenote, I very much consider buffbots to be the bullies of the Entertainer playground lately.

Bullies would always, by their nature, pick on people. They just do - that's what bullies do. The problem is that once they know they're upsetting someone, they pour it on really thick and make your life hell. The live Entertainers are the victim. The buffbots are the bullies. I'm sure quite a lot of them only say all the stuff they say, and do all that they do because they know it pisses us off.

Let them do their junk. Good riddance. Getting uber upset over it won't change the fact that now they can suckle at CS's teet. I'm sure they're pleased as punch about it, and regardless of the stupidity of the policy and the senseless state the Devs have let us fall into, we need to be above it all.

Our situation is not going to change anytime soon. It's best that we do what we can to be smarter than the average buffbot, get visible, get vocal, and let the players of this game decide.

But then again, to quote an old saying:

"The only thing that is needed for Evil to thrive, is for good people to do nothing."

I say we stage a massive multiserver strike.I know what you're thinking: Mass gatherings for the purpose of protest are against the ToS. Well, since everyone has their own ways of interpreting the ToS, there's a way to actually do this.

Outside every cantina, every starport, in every city, on every planet, on every server, ONE Entertainer shall stand/sit/perform while informing the community of our plight.

They've banned mass gatherings using the 'system overload' excuse because they don't want ingame protests. Well, this isn't a mass gathering. But our message still gets out, and on a far wider scale.

Two possible solutions to this can occur:

1. Our cries are finally heard, and the game reverts back to a state where people who actually play it are given the rights and respect we've worked for. Or...

2. They find another excuse to silence us, or even worse ban us, to halt this negative PR incident. This would only confirm our position that SOE feels the Entertainer professions are a failed experiment to be done away with. Good riddance, in that case.

Entertainers debating this since July 03, and every time we think we're getting somewhere on the issues, they've thrown another punch. Hologrinding, Christmas holos, buffbot badges, and now banning Live Entertainers. Here are a couple threads if you're interested in doing some reading on the issue.

It's not..."taboo" I can't say I haven't AFK'tained..because I have. That's right..I have. But never in the doorway of a NPC cantina...never even in the main room. I have always moved to a back room where I could not be seen. I have never ever spammed that I needed an invite...or a heal....or even asked for a tip. The real problem here is buffbots. They are in the doorways...where everyone "stops" and they are stealing xp from the group. They don't see this...but I'm sure they wanted that group xp when they were leveling. Unfortunately, this isn't something that can be fixed with a "hotfix". or at least I don't think so. While I don't agree with griefing a buff bot..I don't agree with buff botting either. Two wrongs don't make a right. I'm not giving up...I do try to make myself more 'approachable' when I'm in the npc cantinas with the sea of AFK'ers. True..I don't need the xp any more but I do love the interaction.

ok...I'm rambling....lack of sleep...and 2 hours of reading about this topic has made my brain mush!!

Folks just ignore them. They aren't going away but they are also not the preferred source for a sizeable portion of the population. Just entertain, find friends, and have fun. If you won't ignore the other players coming into the cantina you will find some that gravitate to you and enjoy the show. There are players who do enjoy the interaction and do want to chat as they heal, entertain them and ignore the rest.

It is simply amazing to me the number of people who will walk to the back and look for live players, not the reverse. I understand why people go to bots, no interaction, no cost, and little down time. I prefer to buff interactively and not passively; which means that people sometimes have to wait. You know what they don't wait much longer than they do for a buff bot and they get to relax, listen to different music, and watch well done dance routines by an organized group. There are people who still enjoy this so enjoy those players and simply ignore the rest.

I also suggest doing different things. The space expansion is nice because you don't take the same deteriation from a loss that you do with a death blow, you don't spend any skillpoints but get to have some combat, and you can loot an awful lot of ship parts to use or sell for some credits. I'll do that an hour or so an evening for a change.

I've actually got a few customers that are asking whats up because I am out of the cantina more this week with JTL. How is that for they still want ATK, they want you not just anyone. They like being able to request certain tunes, chat with the pretty ladies, and in general do MMO type activities. Sure this isn't everyone but at least on Corbantis it is a significant number. I even had one friend comment Sunday night that he finally caught me AFK because I missed his hello in all the chatter. I fortunately saw his comment and responded giving us a good laugh but that kind of comment and my immediate response to the contrary is exactly the kind of thing both sides of the equation want. They want to be surprised you are away, not surprised you are present. We want to be interacted with, appreciated, and supported. Focus on the ones who do those things and simply ignore the rest.

Nice post, Lytefoot. Only one quibble: sooner or later the buffbots *are* going away. The devs have promised us this, and as far as I know, they haven't backed away from that promise.

For the first time in the history of SWG, our Number One Issue as Musicians (according to the Q3 poll I just finished) is AFK'ing and buffbots. You better believe I'm going to make sure the devs don't miss that piece of information.

NJ not to burst your bubble but AFK players have been an issue in EQ for a long time and have never been dealt with. This is an SOE product as well. I just don't see them removing the additional income of all those alt accounts.

As much as I would love for that to happen I just don't think it will. If it does I'll jump up and down with joy but I'm simply not getting my hopes up.
