Thread: Are tips really going down?

Over the past several days and weeks, I have heard numerous people complain about their tips going down. However I haven't noticed anything except for tips going up and up.

I don't know about you, but in the past couple of weeks, I have been playing almost every evening and making no less than 25,000 credits in the 3-4 hours I play. (This is with expenses subtracted out.)

So, am I the only one who is not experiencing a decline in tips?

I guess it depends on where you play, both server and venue. I've played on advanced planets and in Coronet, and don't get squat in tips unless I'm conferring a buff. And yes, I'm talking about being at my keyboard and interracting with folks.

Tips? Hmmm...haven't gotten many of those. I did get one VERY big tip though, which has kept me going for a while. I find that tipping hasn't changed much since day 1 of release...some always will, some never will, and some will never even aknowledge (is that spelled right?) your presence.

Really though, you'll never make a living off tips...

My tips have gone up. Maybe it's because I play in my own cantina in a highly trafficed player city.

I think the sort of player who's going to frequent a player city cantina is the sort who's likely to demonstrate appreciation for Entertainers in a quantifiable sort of way.

However, it's a very mixed bag in a big-city cantina.

In Coronet on Scylla I don't think many people at ANY hour of teh day have been amking money lately. I've tried intereacting with everyone as I work on finishing up my Master Musician...I've played the groupchat only game and ignored everything. I've only been back in the game since last Friday after being out for a month with a bad videocard and I haven't gotten but 1 tip...and that was a friend in the group tipping me 50c to be a smart aleck when I said Ihadn't been getting any tips.

Heh right now we're all complaining about lack of tips and Ent Healing XP as they're both pretty slim.

I have found that the frequency of tipping is up, but the amount tipped has fallen sharply. I will get numerous tips between 350 and 500 cr. I used to be tipped 2k to 5k most of the time. Buffing is different. I usually clear 3k for a buff. I do have some regulars with deep pockets who still continue to tip me 5k as soon as they walk in the door.

Lately I've been getting most of my tips while performing while waiting for a shuttle or starship. To me this is very, very odd. The players do not get any heals or buffs, but I can get pretty funky with the music and the /sing, /rap, and /recite commands. My theory is that I have a captive audience (players waiting for the starship/shuttle) and I am going out of the way to entertain them.

As for cantina tips, they seem pretty steady. My experience mirrors what has already been said, some players always tip and most never do.

I was in the Theed cantina yesterday (Chilastra server), and I tipped the band leader 5k. I really didn't have much healing that needed to be done, but I liked the fact that a large group of people were playing together. I was entertained.

I didn't get a "thank you" or even an acknowledgement of it...and he wasn't afk because he was talking to other band members. I thought that was kinda rude.

If Musicians wish to get more tips, some of you may consider interacting with your customers a little more. When I see a Musician or Dancer doing this, my tipping is always increased. I might be an exception to the rule, but that is the way I am and I know of many others who have the same attitude.

I haven't noticed a problem with tips going down myself -- been pretty consistent -- though if I try hard enough I can clear pretty big tips - even in Coronet or Theed on Naboo.

To the prior point, it can be easy to lose tip information in the spam that affects every entertainer out there until they get max XP (and even then it's still pretty spammy). As a result I highly recommend any entertainment profession hilights the word 'heals you' and 'tips you' in bright, bright colors. This allows a quick /thank to whomever is being helpful for you and makes them happier (and you too!).

Yaras, I have this ugly feeling I missed some tip messages before I created a word color change in my chat options to make the word tip show up. (I think I might change it to a sentence colorization for 'tips you' so that not every word with the letters t-i-p is in a funky color.) I also colored heals so that I know when to thank a medic/doctor for keeping me healed up.

There's so much screen spam, especially when you're still getting music and entertainment healing xp that it's really easy to miss the system message that someone tipped you. It's probably not an intended slight...just not looking in the right spot on the screen at the exact right moment.

I never get tips. EVER. Even when I am the only musician in the cantina. I hate how some people refuse to help those that heal you guys so much.

I suggest taking down a blacklist of those who never tip, then start to /denyservice them. You'll get berated and insulted, but at least are you really aren't out anything.
