Thread: Return of the too far away bug

On Bloodfin at least this bug has returned and is in full force. Myself as well as others can't watch or listen. Are other servers having this problem? I've already /bugged this in game.

This is getting ridiculous and needs fixing NOW.

I want a hotfix on this ASAP, Scip. I want a status of when this will be fixed. If people can't watch me or listen to me, I have NOFUNCTION in this game.

It's infuriating me AND the folks who try to listen to me.

And with this new cover charge ability, it's going to SCREW players, and make them pissed at US, and I refuse to have to that happen - but I'm fearful that it will.

Tell them to fix this NOW.

Thank you

I've asked for an update and made sure to let them know that it's removing our function and frustrating everyone involved.

We are having this again on Wanderhome as well.

It can be worked around easilythough.

1) The person to receive the entertainmentneeds to be out of view, but still in the cantina (like near either the front or back door)

2) They /listen or /watch the entertainer specificallyby name (eg. /listen Habanero)

3) They can then approach the entertainer so that they are in view, and buffing/healing commences

Once people know to do this, they will know to do their listen/watch at the door, then come close to you for entertainer mechanincs and chit-chat.

*Note that I have not tried this solution in conjunction with a cover charge*

One thing I noticed this only occurred in the npc city cantina's. I don't seem to have this problem in my own cantina.

I have been having massive problems with this tonight. Nobody can seem to watch or listen to me, without trying a ton of times before it sticks.

Then, when it sticks, they sometimes mistakenly hit /watch or /listen again because they've been doing it so long. Then they, of course, stop watching or listening, and have to restart the whole effort.

It really does suck, and it's continuing to frustrate me.

I've tried moving around, no noticeable improvement. I've tried an /emote to let the server "catch up with me" and there was no noticeable improvement (this was what kept some folks from "leaping" off of their speeders when that bug was still around). I tried running in circles continuously, no noticeable improvement.

It comes down to typing /watch or /listena lot (or sometimes just a little) and magically you can finally do it.

With this bug, the new /covercharge option basically will turn Entertainers into slot machines. Throw some cash in, and if you're lucky you might get something out of it. I don't use covercharge, but considering it's a new feature...based on basic functionality with Entertainers that still has something malfunctioning in the process...well it's not very useful from everything I've seen.

They've got something, here. Thanks for sharing this.

I tried /watch and watch from the radial. No dice.

I was in a generic planet guild hall, and went from the main floor (where a dancer was) to closer towards the doorway. Whenever I dida /watch from there with the Entertainer's name after the /watch, it seems like there'd at least be a few seconds between the watch and the "stop" message - unilike usually where the start and stop watch messages are almost instantaneous. I found that I could go to this "outer" section of the guild hall near the entrance, get the watch to stick, then run back into the main floor area.

The crazy thing is that you can get the watch to stick near the entrance, but if you run into the main area, sometimes a few seconds after the watch sticks, it'll tell you that you stop watching.

The "near the entrance" technique seems to be working okay, though. It's less frustrating than instanteous start and stop watching/listening messages, at least.

I don't know exactly what's causing it, but man is it frustrating.

I may be wrong, but I think the bug relates to the undelying terrain of the building plus the whole deal with stairs INSIDE buildings and different levels.

AS I said, I may be wrong, but I think its the new "can't see over a hill" feature of the CU.

I also suspect terrain might be a culprit.

However, it doesn't seem to fit in the sense that I can continually try to listen or watch an Entertainer, and remain in the same spot, then magically is works just fine. I'd think if it was terrain, it would simply flat out refuse to let you watch or listen.

I can see how terrain could be an issue, yet, the worst experience of it I've had was while watching Scip in the Theed Theater...very flat there.

Yes flat....sorta.

The terrain "flattens" under buildings, but I suspect that cities are still on varied terrain, but with a "street" layer on top to make it perfectly smooth. I know I've occasionally been "underground" and look up at grasses, but this was in player cities. The terrain issue may also have problems with stairs and ramps (like the droid disappearing bug and the ommni/Nal/Fx bugs taking place beneath the stage).
