Thread: My fan fest notes entertainer

These are mostly dancer specific items. I went to *both* entertainer panels, so these are my impressions from both days. I've edited some of this to include Musician stuff. I also have a HYOOGE update on the Image Designer forums

1. If you are dancing in a group, a dance leader should be able to /changed for all the dancers. The musicians can do it, changing all members to the same song. Dancers want to do it for all dancers. They confirmed this is doable and shouldn't be hard to implement.

2. STOPPING flourishes when you stop dancing. Musicians can stop playing as soon as they move, but we're just kinda stuck until the flourishes finish out. They will fix this. Also not a hard fix.

3. Fixing flourishes is on the list of things to do, too. It takes a LONG time to do anything dance related because of the huge sink into the art. This includes fixing the silly horn vs Ithorian animation. The devs cracked up, when we demonstrated and then spoke a little bit about whether or not they'd play two horns But that's a discussion for dual-wielding.

4. They're looking at a LOT of content for non-combatants. This is a good thing and many of us were excited. Suggestions were being hired by Jabba and such or having safe passage at least *to* jabbas. And yes, we asked about the The Barge. It probably won't happen, unless it is an item that people can buy. They don't want a big ass reward like that to be available for only one profession. I talked to an artist who works on ships and he told me how difficult this would be.

5. Droids not grouping in space. Will be fixed. Same with droids on Kashyyyk.

6. Making the *other* cantinas on Kashyyyk usable. They didn't know if it could happen, but they'll look into it. It's more of a technical issue, since Kashyyyk is programmed so differently.

7. They were interested in props and possibly rewards for quests that have cool props and clothing. A reward system. Accessories and such. Special instruments if you complete a quest. We asked for a drum. Not something that is a combo of rhythm, but like a dumbek or such.

8. They're looking at making /deny service stick after server reset. The devs at that panel, weren't aware that it didn't.

9. The big one...afk play. In reality, many entertainers do not want them to go away, except for all the afk play. Many of us like to use them, so we can RP and talk to people while we're doing our thing. What they want to do is make it so people *want* to be there. Suggestions are "bouncers" which basically check with an AFKer to prod someone. Someone would say "hey are you there?" and if not, the person would get booted after a certain response time. Lots of suggestions from the players. Now that we know WHY they can't really disable macro'ing like they want (it affects so many things besides us, too), we were able to come up with other ideas.

10. Those damn stormies in Theed. They're going to slow down the rate of them in the cantina *and* the amount of text they're speaking. Easy fix.

11. Nala and Ommi...will not be static objects like furniture. The problem is that you'd have instruments all over the place if you made them like furniture and people couldn't place them at will (no more starport jam sessions if that happens).

Mostly...content. Lots of content. I talked to Sheri, the in-game content manager and she has some GREAT things coming up for the non-combat professions. I can't say exactly what she told me, but I literally jumped up and down while squealing. There is talk of a ranking system (unknown if doable..but they have a lot of possible ideas for it) and I really got the idea that these guys were really interested in getting the stigma of the "worthless" professions gone (worthless as deemed by many players in the SOE forums). Julio, the lead producer for Lucas Arts, is REALLY behind this, so that should help. He loves his entertainer characters and I think that will help get some stuff pushed for us.

Btw...Entertainers are the nicest people, of course. The only panel that was just as fun was the Live Event panel ran by Pex.

This is a rambling of what I remember off the top of my head. Feel free to ask questions and I'll try to answer, if I've been unclear.

Thanks for the great report

What I had heard so far from the Fanfest regarding entertainers hasn't been all too encouraging, but your news sound so much better. Let's just hope that they'll make true on their good intentions for once

At Indy, Julio was an entertainer's best friend too.Though we didn't have the in depth discussion you did, things do look up for the entertainer community asa whole and with Julio prodding the devs there has to be at least some movement behind the screens we see. Good report.

Exactly. I made a promise and I want to stay on the good side of people who tell me cool things. I talked to a variety of folks over the Fan Fest weekend and it's some good stuff!
